Bottom line, Army guy, is I agree with you; A volouteer army is better than a conscripted one for the reasons cited in the article you linked. I like your point about training in a modern army. I agree with that too, 13 weeks doesnt cut it for a modern army. I don't agree with eyeball that conscription is the answer to Air Force pilots being tempted out of the Armed Forces as Borg claims they are. Being concerned about Tax dollars isnt casting bad light on the Armed Forces.

Good training and Good leadership go a very long way though, even for conscripts. All other things being equal, a better trained and better led force will defeat the lesser. Conscripts or not. Actually, those guys do just fine under fire. Witness Australian conscripts at Long Tan or (obvoiusly) any American conscript in WWII or Vietnam. Poor behaviour under fire is always the result of poor leadership and poor training. Don't take the insults to heart eyeball. Its the usual Armed Forces "We're tougher than others" horseshit.

As I understand it, the woman was employed by CH. CH was her employer, as such CH must conform to the laws and regulations that apply to all employers. They cannot descriminate against an employee because of her sexuality. The purpose and ethics of the employer mean nothing if the employee was doing her job competently. They harrassed her solely because of her sexuality. They were wrong to do so as any other employer in the land would also be wrong to do so. Perhaps CH should learn how to treat thier employee's like actual human beings instead of cattle. Perhaps then CH could continue to supply the noble service they do....

That assumes that we will talk and elect our way into being a nonentity. If we do what does that say about the value of Canada? If not enough people support the continuation of Canada then by what mythology and fake misinformed bullshit pride should we instill in Canadians to make it valuable? On the other hand Canada exists to this very day because Canadians see value in it. The seperatists lost 2 referendums about something very near and dear to thier hearts and I see no indication that they are going to win one anytime soon. So let Duceppe have his say...sometimes he's right. I would suggest that the Bloq's criticisms in parliament are no worse than Reforms criticisms of Canada or the NDP's or the Conservatives or the Liberals. The Bloq has done nothing to lessen the unity of this country and in fact have inadvertently strengthened it. Unless, of course, Duceppe actually makes sense. In wich case why the struggle to prop up a sham? Unlike the USofA we need no wars to keep this country unified.

Well, here's a clue for you: The US civil war started when rebellious persons declared thier states to be independant of the USofA. Prior to that there was muchy debate and elections and voting regarding the issue's of wich states would be allowed slavery and wich would not. So Americans took up arms against each other not because of debates and elections but because of overt armed rebellion. Until such a point is reached - debate's and elections are good things.

Having lived in Quebec as an Englishspeaking person I politely suggest that you have no idea of what you speak. French is not rammed down anyones throat any more than English is rammed down every other Canadians throat. In fact far less. Canada allows people like Mssr Duceppe to run in open and free elections. That is a good thing, jbg, and I cannot fathom why you would consider that objectionable.

I like the idea of voting for who I think will govern the country in a manner I prefer. The Liberal and Conservative party's obviouslly gain the support of many voters and Lo! They hold many seats in parliament. The more pary's running the better. Minority governments represent the results of elections just as much as majority governments. They are both good because they reflect the general will of the voting public. Sometimes that means that there is no consensus about policy. I am surprised that there are those who wish that hidden as if it didn't exist or that government should act as if it didn't exist. To my mind that is very undemocratic. If I believe the Marxist-Leninists are the ones to best represent my concerns why in the hell would I vote for someone else? And if there is no one of the ML party running in my riding then I'd best get off my ass and run myself or find someone to run for them. ...unless it's raining, of course.

Such reasoning only applies to non-muslims. We non-muslims do things motivated by greed, wealth, taxes, jealousy, anger, frustration, power, sex etc etc etc. Muslims are only motivated by thier religion.
