I must admit, Hugo, you make a compelling argument here and I have to agree with you that one should err on the side of life. None the less, I must maintain my admittedly immoral position on this issue and I'll tell you why: Up until some time ago, I used to maintain a position very similar to yours. Then, regardless of having taken every precaution, I encountered the prospect of having to actually deal with this momumental choice. While, thank God, the situation resolved itself and I was never forced to make that decision, I found that I had indeed already choosen. As a young man in college, with a bright future ahead of me, I found myself unwilling to sacrifice that future and instead was willing to live with a decision that would have resulted in the destruction of a proto human being. While I won't, by any means, imply that you would have made the same decision, you simply cannot know for sure until you walk a mile in other man's shoes.

Parent Forbidden To Say Homosexuality Wrong
righturnonred replied to Morgan's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
I think that's outragous. Imagine a court granting joint-custody of a woman's adoptive child to a former male cohabitor. It would never happen! This is an example of some liberal activist judge pushing his a anti-Christian/Pro-homosexual agenda. Many people, including myself, believe that Homosexuality is a mental disorder, and that it is not an acceptable alternative lifestyle. I do not believe it is sinful according to religious beliefs but simply because it is a malfunction within nature. To teach your child that it is an aberration among normal human beings and not acceptable in any way does not constitute teaching hate. Teaching your young Arab children to kill Jews is an example of teaching hate. -
I understand and respect the genuine moral objection that some have to abortion in general, but in all honesty to myself, I cannot equate an 8 week old embryo with a person or even a more highly developed fetus(2nd-3rd trimester) for that matter. It all boils down to the question of where life really begins and I, personally, don't have the answer to that question. Unfortunately, its something the scientific community has been unable to determine aswell. The things I do know for certain is that partial birth abortion is an abomidation, but to suddenly eliminate abortion in it's entirety without first addressing the underlying problems in society would be detrimental.

I'll consider the last one because achieving general security, including that of isreal, was the principle aim here. However, you have absolutely no evidence to support the first two claims. I've said it before, here it is again: Oil? humor me, ok? Aside from it's geostrategical implications, how is oil connected here?

With the exception of some sort of personal sense of enlightenment, unfortunately this statement is essentailly correct. A college education represents a tremendous investment for the average person. For most people, it is a neccessity to earn a return on that investment, otherwise that person has invested considerable time and resources to achieve nothing more than peice of mind. It seems to me that this exercise is not very economical, under any system. But then again, we live in a free society in America and if that is what you choose to do, it is your decision to make. Conversely, I seriously doubt that the ruling communist leadership would provide every man, woman, and child a college education and not expect a return on their investment. What alternative system do you suggest that doesn't involve working and spending? Maybe so, but I can certainly imagine a much more drab existence.

Birth control is prevenative, abortion is reactionary. Abortion, for me, is an issue I have great difficulty with. There are valid argements on both sides but I find myself siding with the pro-choicers on this simply because it is, as Moderate put it, a neccessary evil. It is an imperfect solution to a complicated social problem, a problem caused in large part by the growing pervasiveness of liberal social values and ideology over the course of the past 50 years. Essentially abortion, barring medical and sexual assault considerations, goes against the precepts of personal accountablility and as a result encourages bad behavior. Alternatively, to suddenly abolish abortion as a "remedy" would undoubtably have destructive consequences on society. Like many social problems in our society, this goes back to the family and religion, two institutions under attack in America. The nuclear family structure, particularly in the black communities, has all but evaporated. Without that stablility and guidance, many children are destined to live lifes of crime, proverty, and immorality.

Jessica Lynch is no hero and should be smacked for disrespecting the brave souls who put their lives on the line to save her sorry ass. Book deals? Made for TV movies? I makes me wanna puke. The real unsung hero here is Pfc. Patrick Miller who, by the way, doesn't think he did anything special. Miller, who was driving the last truck in the convoy, and who hadn't shot a rifle in 9 months singlehandedly took out a handful of Iraqi scum in an attempt to protect his injured collegues before he and the others were captured. Full Story: Jessica Lynch's Hero I wonder is Lynch would be happier if SF just ploped her back down right where they found her.

Who Should Replace Bush

Mr. Farrius, I direct you to Morgan's post (Nov 9 @ 10:58 pm) as a good example of a reasoned argument backed by credible evidence. While you may disagree with his conclusions and in fact the information contained in his sources, you are free to address each point in his post with which you take objection. You may refute each point with your own commentray accompanied by facts that support your assertions. With the facts, you must provide the source of the facts, which is most commonly in the form of a news column produced by an outlet such as the Associated Press, Reuters, Fox News, abc.com, msnbc.com, Newsmax.com, WorldnetDaily.com, etc. These news outlets possess credentials which makes them accountable for what they print on their news pages. It's usually ok to site facts found within op-ed commentary as long as the author writes for a credentialed outlet. Beware however. Bias in news reporting is usually never in the form of misrepresentation of fact, but rather omission of relavent information. A perfect example of this is illustrated in this story about a school shooting in 2002 which highlights the leftist media's anti gun agenda: Two of the three Virginia law students who overpowered a gunman in a fatal school shooting were armed and used their weapons to disarm the shooter. Yet of the 280 stories written about the shooting, a mere four mentioned the fact that the heroic students were armed and used their guns to halt the rampage. Media Ignore Fact That Gun Owners Stopped School Shooter Seeing as how you appear so adamant in your positions, It should not be a problem for you to find credible information to corroborate what you seem to know is certain. -
Europe Getting More And More Cocky

It is estimated that by 2050, China's economy will over take the United States and it will be a dark day in world history. It is boarderline treasoness for any American to regard this development as positive. China is currently sitting quietly in their corner biding their time while simultainiously arming for a major confrontation with the United States. Technology transfers by the Clinton Administration, legal or other wise, have excelerated the process. If you think that China's recent manned space launch is a triumph for mankind, you're a fool. The geostrategic climate will change dramatically in the next 15 years and the US will find itself embroiled in a new cold war. Bush was right to reclassify that country as a strategic competitor as opposed to a partner. I highly recommend reading The China Threat by Bill Gertz. Gertz is a national security reporter for the Washington Times and has unprecidented access to the intelligence community. You'd do yourself a favor to check it out. -
Who Should Replace Bush

Like I said before, the links you posted were an assortment of opinionated left-wing rants, not hard news information. There is a huge difference. I'm not implying that there exists any source that is completely unbias, but you must understand that in our efforts to present our case, we are not using information from non-credentialed, third-party, partisan websites to support our arguments. Although I did not wade through every single article provided through your links, I read enough of them to determine that they lack legitimacy. They basically resemble postings such as those on this forum. None of the postings even present the author's name. Some of the basis for these articles are just ridiculus. Some examples: Halliburton Contracts: The unknown author is disputing a story in the NYT with information he got from where? We don't know because he didn't tell us. What If Hillary Had Said This About Republicans?: I watched the interview with Larry King and Mrs. Bush was a model of class. "you're dead"? Are you joking? I guess you better be careful because Mother Bush is making a threat on your life. Please... I CANNOT But Tell A Lie: Starts out with a quote from Paul Krugman, a sydicated, left-wing OPINION COLUMNIST. Followed is an extremely long ranting post with no evidence to back up his conclusions, just more COMMENTARY from left-wing columnists. By the way, It doesn't seem reasonable to you that historically, poverty rates rise slighlty during a recession? I'm guessing it seems that way to Dick Meyer. Why Does The GOP Hate Women? This is just discraceful. All this shows is that liberals are so incredibly out of touch it's no wonder they're losing they're monopoly on power and information. Did Bush Really Rebuke Malaysian Prime Minister? This story was widely covered in the media. In fact I saw it mentioned on several broadcast outlets. Furthermore, Mahathir Mohamad is a long time anti-US, anti-semite bastard. It is unbelievable that anyone with a couple of marbles rolling around would take his word over Bush. I feel like I'm responding to posts, and thats exactly the point. Don't use commentary to base your arguments on. Instead, use hard news and facts. If you want to make an argument here, you can either follow the formula or don't bother. -

You gotta be kidding me Farrius. This crap you posted is nothing more than a collection of rantings from left wing websites. Furthermore, as I'm sure Greg will tell you, it is a violation of forum rules to simply post links to outside websites without presenting a argument to accompany your "evidence". Sorry, no. Try again On behalf of everyone pulling their hair out on this forum, I challenge you to present your arguement based on real evidence this time. Try to imagine you're attempting to convince skeptics here, instead of preaching to the liberal choir. In order for you the acheive this, you must recognize the difference between an OpEd peice and a news column. -
You're insane if you think Isreal is the recipient of that much foreign aid. The actual number is closer to $720 million per year (2001 est.) Although about half of Isreal's external debt is owed to the US. You're also fooling yourself if you think Isreal's ecomony is completely dependant on US foreign aid. In addition, Isreal purchases millitary equipment from the US, it does not receive it for free. Military expenditures - dollar figure:$8.97 billion (FY02) Military expenditures - percent of GDP:8.75% (FY02) CIA World Factbook Hint: Palestinian and other radical activist websites are not reliable sources of infomation.

I disagree, Arafat represents the most significant roadblock to peace. Regardless of whether the Palestinian Authority pretends to be a functioning republic, Arafat retains complete contol over the centers of power in that government. Arafat Controls Palestinian Cabinet The new Palestinian cabinet had been entirely chosen by Arafat who refuses to relinquish control of the security forces to puppet Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia, who himself was essentially chosen by Arafat. The previous Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas resigned over the same conflicts regarding control of security forces. The only reason Arafat is not dead or exiled is because Washington wants it that way. They fear such an action would create a martyr of Arafat and further embroil the region. My view is that the situation could not deteriorate any further than is already has and that both sides are better off with him gone one way or another. The Palestinian Authority must be truly reformed and militant groups must be destroyed from within before any progress on the Road Map can take place.

Ethnic cleansing is a very serious accusation, back it up. There is a distinction to be drawn between the encroachment of Isreali settlements (which I favor dismantling) into "Palestinian territory" which is more akin to trespassing, and the military occupation of Palestinian towns and cities. Petty boarder disputes alone do not justify suicide bombings. While ceasing of attacks on Isreali citizens may not lead to the dismantling of the settlements, its reasonable to assume that the occuption of Palestinian towns and cities, including road blocks and restriction of movement, would no longer be neccessary. The Isreali Government does not relish imposing hardships on the Palestinian people but their security demands it.

We need to clarify something important here: The adminstration made it clear time after time that the then proposed action in Iraq was intended to dismantle Saddam's WMD programs BEFORE the threat became imminent. Bush never suggested that the United States was in danger of being attacked at any time. The source of the "45 minute capability" was a British intelligence report.
-
I demand evidence to back up accusations simply because I have seen none ANYWHERE. Unfortunately, baseless liberal accusations are the norm here on this forum. I've been hard pressed to find evidence supporting any of it anywhere in the media or Congress, let alone among these posts. It is incredibly imbecilic for you to suggest that I am "uninformed" because I do not provide non-existent evidence for the liberal accusations that I challenge. If you truly wish to exonerate yourself, then cough up the evidence. Otherwise, stop acting like boob. Do you know why this is? Because Haliburton possess capabilites that are simply unmatched in the entire world. For example, they were the only company available to extinguish well fires and reconstruct Kuwait's destroyed oil infrastructure following the 1991 gulf war. Just because the company has close ties to the federal government and the Pentagon, generates profit associated with Iraqi reconstruction, and is a recipient of federal pork spending does not mean the war was predicated on corporate greed. To believe so is supposition and not evidence of malfeasance.

Who Should Replace Bush

All excellent news. However, expect liberals to continue to carp on job losses in the manufacturing sector, a global phenomenon largely resulting from astronomical productivity gains. Business Leaders Optimistic About Economic Upturn: "We are looking forward to that acceleration in the economy in our business area, so we are actually hiring at a fairly strong clip right now,'' said Irwin Jacobs, chief executive of Qualcomm Inc., in a radio interview with Bloomberg News yesterday. "We are currently actively hiring,'' said Alfred Mockett, chief executive officer of American Management Systems Inc., a Fairfax, Virginia, provider of consulting services to government agencies and businesses, in an interview Tuesday. ``Just based on our current backlog and pipeline, we are going to have to step up our hiring as we go into next year. I can foresee a situation where the whole industry is going to get into recruitment mode next year.'' "Companies are posting sales positions,'' said Jeff Taylor, founder and chief executive of Monster Worldwide Inc.'s Monster.com, the biggest U.S. Internet site for employment advertising, in a television interview with Bloomberg News yesterday. ``This is critical because it means companies have confidence in the future. We see a heavy amount of small- and medium-sized company postings.'' "The combination of faster growth in demand and slowing productivity growth should lead, in the next few quarters, to increased hiring,'' Fed Governor Ben Bernanke told participants in an investment outlook conference in Pittsburgh yesterday. -
I have to say that does shock me.

I have yet to read a personal attack levied by any of these fellows. To use the term liberal or lie-beral, or Dumbo-crud or any other colorful pejorative does not constitute a personal attack, as those terms apply to groups. However, to imply that an individual is unsuccessful or unemployed, or has no life, or defrauds their employer is a personal attack. If you can't tell the difference than at least try to bite your tounge. I was unaware it took that long to create, but if thats the case, I'd say yes, it was a considerable waste of time. After all, the late Bob Ross was capable of creating a superior painting in just a half an hour.

Ah, here we are again. Observing another lovely example of what liberals do best: trying to destroy those personally with whom they don't agree. Your frustrated attempts to lash out in response to reasoned arguments is quite distasteful.

Conspiracy Theories
righturnonred replied to Cameron's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
You expect us to believe that just because GWB had some third party relationship with a member of the Saud family, that implicates him in a mass conspiracy to slaughter thousands of Americans? It seems to me that thats rather a lot to take on faith -
Why do you automatically suspect malfeasance on the part of this administration without any evidence what so ever. You can make baseless accusations all day long but where is the evidence that we are stealing Iraqi oil?Where is the evidence there are not enough troops to complete the job? Where is the evidence that our strategy is failing in Iraq? Where is the evidence that Hiliburton profits unduly from Iraqi oil? How is the White House preventing the media from covering the whole story? Where is the evidence they care only about filling there wallets with black gold? With the exception of the conspiracies you contrive in your minds, where the hell is your evidence to support these kinds of reckless accusations? If all you do is ring your hands, how do you expect anyone to take you seriously? Come on, liberals in Congress aren't even spewing this "war for oil" bullshit we continuously hear from the far left who have no legitimate criticisms at all. Do you understand what the academic definition of evidence is? Until you have some, no one other than your own liberal ilk will take you seriously.

Democrats And 2004
righturnonred replied to Craig Read's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
We all seem have different ideas about who has a better understanding of history and the context in which it relates to the present. One thing I will disagree on is that it was not us who damaged our relationship with the French, rather is was them who chose to scorn us. Like America, France is a proud nation, however its been generations since the French really had much to be proud of. I think the displays of arrogence on the part of the French stem from their frustrating realization that they are no longer a first rate global military and ecomomic power. Although its obvious the French want what we have, the fact is they can never have it. And therefore they'd rather we didn't have it either. -
First of all, just let me say that it is very strange indeed to maintain the belief that there exists no higher being in any form what so ever. Logic stipulates there must be or have been a creator. Secondly, no where in the US constitution, it amendments, the Bill of Rights, or any other founding document does it mandate the "separation of Church and state." It is insane to suggest that this is what the founding fathers intended. The Framers meant that Congress couldn't establish a national church. They did not intend to forbid every little activity on government property or partially funded by the government. Like it or not, this country was founded on Judeo-Christian principals and while the Founders envisioned a secular state, they did not wish to create of nation devoid of faith in the public arena. The point here is not that it is desirable for the government to endorse religious activities. Rather it is that courts have made the law up as they've gone along, completing mucking up Establishment Clause jurisprudence, and, in the name of protecting religious freedom, have greatly suppressed it.
