Liberal Shadow Cabinet Announced
HoratioCaine replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Dude, you need to back off. I didn't start anything, you did. I was posting, minding my own business and you attacked me. Now grow up and act like an adult or leave me alone. -
So there are no Conservatives you want to see win? Well, no. my flow chart is Liberal, NDP, Green, Conservative. however if the Conservatives could extracate this far right "Alliance" element from their ranks they'd jump to number 2.

Canada can get rich by going green: Dion
HoratioCaine replied to stignasty's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well, you made it personal first, I merely defended myself. But causality aside I'm just saying you should probably stop accusing people of doing things that you do. -

I don't know if anybody *supports* abortions. But I am pro-choice. And yes I am a Conservative. Will you now quit with your blanket insults and ignorant behaviour? You mean like this? -
Hey, weren't you just questioning if there were any Liberals I'd like to see win? Ok, #1 I said "new" colleagues.#2

Do you support abortions? -
Hopefully he and a lot of his new colleauges go down.
-
Yeah, that whole equality thing is played out.
-
Just wondering if you would consider creating a section for supporters of parties to chat with other supporters. (i.e. a section for Liberals to talk with each other, a section for Conservatives to talk with each other, etc.)
-
Yes. A mixed bag on that one. Not the cleanest MP out there, but I guess there are dirtier .... in every caucus. I imagine you think anyone that brings you closer to 155 is a good addition to the CPC.

Someone should tell Dion to cut that line. It's dumb and with his accent, it sounds even worse.Dion's forte is not going around blabbering about a get-rich-quick scheme. It's a solid strategy. People who vote Conservative usually only care about two things, one of them being money. (The other being forcing their values on others) Courting those voters by showing them they can be responsible and profitable at the same time is smart. -
Liberal Shadow Cabinet Announced
HoratioCaine replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Gerard Kennedy has a seat? Gerard Kennedy is basically a shoe in, Fortier has a cabinet position and he doesn't have a seat... Uh, yeah but he was made a Senator, the Leader of the Opposition can't appoint Senators. I wonder why with the Conservatives always talking about disbanding it or making it private (funded in Alberta of course) -

Liberal Party Leadership Financing: A mess
HoratioCaine replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Hill Times So, to get around campaign financing restrictions, the leadership candidates have solicited "loans" from contributors rather than "donations". This means there is no restriction on how much one individual can "contribute" to a campaign. The leadership candidate can then somehow work out "repayment" later. There's the added bonus (and figleaf) of claiming to wait until the issuance of tax receipts is possible. Liberals don't see rules as a guideline for behaviour. They see rules as obstacles and look for ways to get around them. They simply don't understand the spirit of the law or its true intention. The Liberals just do not get this. They are absolutely clueless. Liberals don't understand that politicians are supposed to have values and integrity. The only Liberal principle is apparently pure pragmatism. Well, it's not very pragmatic to be caught constantly with one's hand in the cookie jar. I really don't care about this, until the campaign finance laws are changed so that one party doesn't benefit more from them than another I have no problem with the Liberals leveling the playing field. Also loans have to be paid back, often with interest. -
Conservatives to deal with Fiscal Imbalance.
HoratioCaine replied to Ricki Bobbi's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
"Oddly enough"???? It seems that the "have" provinces are throwing a party. They should at least control the guest list, the choice of music, etc. Unlike the States though Canada for the most part has a "lets help each other out" attitude when it comes to provincial relations as opposed to the individual states which are more along these lines:Nevada: Help me my house is on fire! California: Sure, I'd love to give ya a hand, but you're last water payment check bounced... Canada recognizes that we're stronger together than we are apart. But I don't really blame the have provinces for whining, the rich have always complained they have to help the poor. -
I'm an election Junkie, so an election is not the bad news to me it seems to be regular people. That being said I'd only look forward to an election where the Liberals are ready. The good news is the government can not be defeated without the Liberals, so they have some choice in when. Harper can drop the writ himself but then he'd have to explain why to a populace already grumpy from two elections a little over a year apart. I do think that trying to discern whether it's go or no go from those Dion comments is pointless however, Dion isn't Harper and he doesn't have a blind lust for power at any cost to try to hide. Sure he wants it, but not on the level Harper did.
-
I doubt it, the West knows Harper is only trying to get a majority so he can do what they really want him to do. They'll be paitent. Besides who else would they vote for? Definatly not the Liberals, the NDP aren't getting many votes in Alberta and the Greens? They wouldn't want to waste their votes when things are so close.
-
Don't matter me to me, from the title of his blog I doubt I'd agree with much he has to say so let him get it wrong. Anyway, I see what you're saying. I just thought it was funny they convinced Deif to get rid of interceptors and then kept making ones of their own. Bet they wouldn't mind some Arrows flying over Afghanistan right about now.

Agreed about Emerson (and Stronach and Brison). Turner is a different story for two reasons. He is sitting as an independent and he was kicked out. Stronach and Brison have already faced the public since their switches, that's why I didn't mention them. And as for Turner, Yeah ok I can go along with the whole kicked out thing. The Indi thing doesn't matter to me tho, so if he had left to sit as an Indi of his own accord.

That's why I say there's no real such thing as freedom. Word up.

We did? Yup, the Americans conned us in to buying their Beaumark missiles instead of developing the Avro Arrow. http://canadianconservative.townhall.com/g...db-2da7ff265509

The only way this will end is with impeachment or a Democratic win in 2008.
-
There is truth to that. The youth Liberal party team or whatever they are decided last year that the most important issue to them was to allow red light districts and control prostitution, gambling, and dope. Wow guys.. you got the right mindset. The libs also want to legalize pot too and tax it. It was never a priotiry though but they were getting there. I don't think Dion will like the pot idea very much... well.. then again.. he is a teacher. I would say Canada aspires to be like Holland but with even higher taxes and mass, mass, mass immigration to the pont where we are all living in state run apartments a la communist style. Gotta keep hatin those immagants.Anyway, I always thought it was the Conservatives who complained that Liberals were curtailing their freedoms. The only difference is they were curtailing their freedom not to pay taxes. So when the freedom to spend your money as you see fit is curtailed, even when having such a freedom would hurt infrastructure, social programs, education, health care, etc. It's a bad thing. But curtailing freedom to make your own choices on things such as marijuana, prostitution, abortions etc. is A OK.

If McKenna wanted a say on this he should have ran for leader. Canada already got fooled in to this magic space shield once back when Diefenbaker was PM.
-
A solid strategy to be sure, look how well it worked for the Democrats in the recent mid terms.
