  1. Except for the innocent people that they kill when they are over there......and guess what - they are Canadians and they have rights - so how do you prevent them from returning "home"? They are Canadians - we HAVE to take them back, especially if we can't PROVE they were part of terrorism - and even then, they have guaranteed Charter Rights. Right?
  2. Perhaps you can tell them that their CPP has not changed.......and reassure them that Old Age Security changes (age moving up from 65 to 67) don't kick in for another 10 - 15 years. I think your friends would appreciate that.
  3. Good thought - and pretty well describes the frustrating Jihadist, hate-the-West mentality....the old teach the young and it goes from generation to generation. Look at schools in Gaza where they literally teach kids to hate Jews. As I've said before - it's not all about Khadr - it's about terrorism. Terrorism is a different crime - a crime against innocents. The sentences - and the need to serve them to their fullest - reflects society's repugnance with the scourge that is threatening the very soul of humanity. Sure - Khadr may be a nice guy - or not....you can make as many apologies for him as you want......but the message must be clear - Western society will apply the full extent of the law against terrorism.
  4. Of course they do....otherwise they'd be flooded with refugees and immigrants from oppressed Arab nations and they would indeed be "wiped off the map" or "driven into the ocean". What do you propose in its place - or didn't you think that far ahead?
  5. Meanwhile, Obama Fracks and Drills relentlessly - and he's the darling of the eco-nuts......go figure.
  6. You're in the same boat as several other posters, including me.
  7. Yes it does - and I'd be willing to bet many of them - are small businesses and independent consultants who happened to have a couple of good years. I was in that boat for a while but it's very difficult to maintain for most people. Get it while you can. Save it while you can.
  8. A different one....who knows what it might be.....but knowledge and facts usually get people thinking.
  9. I think if you asked most people "how many Palestinians live in Israel and have Israeli citizenship| they'd be flabbergasted to find out that they comprise 20% of the population. With that knowledge, those same uninformed people would likely be open to a new perspective - other than the one that the media hypes....
  10. Good give-and-take on Question Period yesterday. A good portion of the program involved both Kory Tenyke and Anne McGrath criticizing the Liberals for not agreeing to any debates yet. The priceless moment however was when Tenyke asked Fife point blank if CTV would cover the debates - no matter where they were - which of course they will. That's the dishonest part of the Consortium's argument - of course they'll cover the debates....because as they've always said - they are providing a "public service" so this false argument of not being able to reach 10 million Canadian viewers is self-serving hogwash. 11. Cyber - when a poster admits that they'll have to be lucky to win the next election.....whey they suggest their leader might step down.....when they say they need more humility......and when they on numerous occasions stated that if the Liberals were led by Marc Garneau they would strongly consider voting for them......and when that same poster raises a topic touting the rise of the NDP and how the Conservatives are no longer safe from losing votes to them - somehow you feel they have a deeply held partisan bias? I think you might want to look in the mirror Cyber and confront your deeply held anti-Harper bias.
  12. I don't disagree....but I consider that to be a part of their paranoia against the press....not against their electoral promises. Upon winning a majority, I think their whole gang should have taken a more humble approach to governing. Heck - their outreach under Jason Kenney was more inclusive than any government ever - e.g. - the Liberals and taking the open-door approach to immigration - only to take their votes for granted - and eventually lose their support. If the Conservatives are lucky enough to win another majority - or even a minority, Harper will resign at some point and I would be flabbergasted if Kenney doesn't win the next leadership contest. I think you'll see less paranoia and more humility under his leadership.
  13. You'll have to be a bit more precise. If you are referring to the Accountability Act, they fulfilled their platform - perhaps not as much as what some would like to see - but more accountability than preceded them. And it's there to build on for the next government - whomever that might be.
  14. Funny though, with the exception of Income Trust, I don't recall Harper doing anything significant other than what the Conservatives said they would do in their platforms.....and almost all of what they said they would do - they did - or tried to do. Perhaps you can be more direct in terms of his "lies" as it relates to what he said he'd do?
  15. Again, as part of their stated "public service".
  16. Was there ever a chance that Sadam would have been able to retain power if he was a "benevolent dictator" - with state-sponsored education and policies that fostered cultural unification? My money would have been on him being assassinated pretty quickly. What a mess. Going into Iraq in the manner that was done has proven to be a failure to put it mildly.......but the Arab awakening has at least given huge swaths of Middle East populations a glimpse of what freedom and democracy could look like. When the burning rubble and bodies are removed, we can only hope that the people will start down the path of their own model of democracy. Education and information are the building blocks. I'm mostly comfortable that we've learned from our mistakes - that we're now helping them clear the crap out of the way and leave them to their own nation-building. There's always hope.
  17. Why would the "major networks" not want to cover the Leaders Debates - perhaps even all of them. Remember - the high-minded consortium said they were doing it as a public service (wink, wink).....now they would get to televise it without the added expense of producing it......and they could still partner together in the actual televising to reduce even that cost......and they would still be providing a public service (wink again). Sounds like what you might refer to as a "win-win".
  18. A lot of people could learn something from it.....
  19. An excerpt from a summation of CNN's video presentation - Blindsided: How ISIS shook the world Link: http://www.cnn.com/2015/04/27/opinions/zakaria-isis-shakes-world/?iid=ob_videoleaf_organicfooter&iref=obnetwork
  20. The poll may end up being an outlier - or the start of a trend. It was inevitable that the NDP would start chewing into the Left flank of the Liberals as Trudeau continued to stumble - but this poll may be showing that the Conservatives are not completely safe either. Reminds me of the old PacMan game with Mulcair and the NDP chugging around gobbling up Red and Blue voters. Interesting times.

  22. Yes - sorry - had to get back to my REAL job....here it is: Link: http://www.thestar.com/news/queenspark/2015/05/13/patrick-browns-leadership-win-boosts-ndp-numbers-poll-shows.html?referrer=http%3A%2F%2Fr.search.yahoo.com%2F_ylt%3DA0LEV2W7rVNV8SkAfYjrFAx.%3B_ylu%3DX3oDMTEzZ2JwNXNjBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwM1BHZ0aWQDQ0FDMDAxXzEEc2VjA3Ny%2FRV%3D2%2FRE%3D1431576124%2FRO%3D10%2FRU%3Dhttp%253a%252f%252fwww.thestar.com%252fnews%252fqueenspark%252f2015%252f05%252f13%252fpatrick-browns-leadership-win-boosts-ndp-numbers-poll-shows.html%2FRK%3D0%2FRS%3DBUoqQ9vMwmJBLUQ8oa1tcoWoyqU-
  23. Following in the tradition of Federal Conservatives being elected when Liberals are in power in the Province, Kathleen Wynne and the Provincial Liberals will prove to be a boat anchor around the neck of Trudeau. The Wynne government has fallen to 24% in popularity through its sheer incompetence and disdain for taxpayers. Federal Tories will rightly say "Do you want more of the same from Justin Trudeau?". Don't be surprised to see the Tories hold steady in their Ontario seat total while the NDP pick off some urban ridings. Wynne will be toxic for Trudeau but looking through a Liberal lens, they won't see it.
  24. Chances now seem pretty good that we'll end up with some interesting debates and hey, the major networks will be sending camera crews to all of these debates anyway.....it's a proven money-maker through good viewership and advertising. And who knows, maybe one of the major networks will be able to come up with a decent proposal. In any event, looks like we'll be seeing more debates, not less. Good news all round.
