  1. I agree. That is a big problem. Just don't allow them to have party membership and take out the election funding problem. They'll be free agents who will be caucusing with whomever they wish.
  2. Ha ha. Good one.
  3. Well maybe if you divide it up by provinces. Why not do it by regions - Maritimes, Quebec, Ontario, Prairies, West Coast, North? There might be battles between the Senate and the House, but would they be as often if you took political parties out of the mix?
  4. What he said.
  5. That is a good point, but I am concerned that here are not enough checks and balances in our system. I am particularly worried about Harper's plan to reduce the power of the judiciary. A majority parliament without some sort of second opinion just might be a very dangerous thing.
  6. There's your answer, Jennie.
  7. Not really. I do use the word bigot from time to time. Why don't you supply a few links, Argus?
  8. I could go for an elected senate if none of the candidates is allowed to belong to a political party, and if 3 nays from the senate had the power to defeat a bill. The third nay should require a poll with a very large sample taken by lottery from only those who voted in the last federal election and were willing to provide a contact point, and with the senate being allowed to phrase the question. I think that would be pretty cool.
  9. I know. And every time Syria makes a critical strategic win by sabotaging a top secret Israeli project, it is all over the front pages of the Jerusalem Post. Oh wait. The National Post. Well, you know.... What is apparent here is that to posters like Argus, Rue, M.Dancer and JBG, everything that Israel does is sanctioned by God and everything the Arabs do flies straight out of the mouth of hell. Even the US can tut-tut at Israel and still, it's all good. As my signature says, "It's not us OR them. It's us AND them."
  10. Anybody have an Al Jazeera link?
  11. Jeez. Sounds like government as usual. Whatever you might say about the man, he did pass elections funding legislation that will ensure we will not have the same kind of bought system that we see in so many other parts of the world. As for the civil service, he extended benefits so the civil service will now get full benefits after retirement. Would that we all could suck on that fat teat.
  12. I know what you mean. Me I am till upset about he US soldiers who died of cancer from the tests in Nevada...
  13. I see. So the nuclear reactor provided by France didn't matter. Thanks for your input.
  14. Here's a quote from the same site... "Syria has called for an area free of all weapons of mass destruction." It's common kowledge.
  15. No they just... ... sit around, shoot the shit, discuss how bad Arabs are, have a Starbucks, maybe drink some Cabernet. Nothing serious. Bah.
  16. Jeez. This sort of reminds me of the French/Israeli program to develop Israel's nuclear capabilties. This just has to stop! But where to stop it? Oh I know. We'll stop it when Israel has nuclear weapons. Yeah. That's the ticket. That way the entire region will feel safe. Syria has missiles? Holy cow. They must be the only ones! This has just got to stop. What is with these guys? Do they think this is war? Good lord. Syria won't sign? I don't blame you for being upset. I think they whould sign right next to Israel. Yeah. That's the ticket. Right next to Israel. Sarin? Let's see some cites, Rue.
  17. So it's not about a war on terror? It's a war on drugs? I love it. Why doesn't the US just subsidize the Afghani farmers to turn their fields fallow? How much would that cost? I'll bet it would be a damned sight less than the cost of a fully equipped army! Or grow corn? Yeah that's it. Why don't they just get the Afghanis to grow corn. And produce gasohol. Yeah. That's the ticket. On the other hand, they could legalize marijiuana and get them to grow pot. O wait, how about bruseels sprouts? They're always pretty hard to find in the winter... I have an idea. Why doesn't Canada offer to fund the subsidization of Afghani poppy growers instead of paying for an army of young people who are getting killed? I'll bet it would be a lot cheaper to pay these guys more than the greedy drug lords pay them than to pay for an army of young Canadians who we need right now back here building our country. But then, what do I know?
  18. Good point. So if Israel recognizes a Palestinian state....
  19. Syria, an inncoent lamb? I don't think so, Rue. The Middle East is a pack of wolves, Rue. Israel included. So they were building a nuclear reactor but the site was empty? Rue, your opinion of my credibility is bupkis.
  20. The pot calling the kettle black or what? Give me a break. Does the Sinai ring a bell?
  21. A better way for the government to handle the press? When the government starts handling the press, it will be handling what the electorate knows. Screw that! George W Bush did this. Look what you got.
  22. Oh so THAT'S the question. And here I thought it was something else. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Palesinian? There is no such thing as a Palestinian." Gold Meier.
  23. When was the last time Syria actually attacked Israel? My memory is a little foggy on this? Who is perpeatuating a state of war here? Interesting that even the US is not backing Israel on this latest adventure.
  24. I rest my case. But in the spirit of educating those who bring ignorance to the table, I remind you that before the 1948 war, Golda Meier went to Abdullah of Jordan and asked him not to attack Israel. He agreed. He in fact did not attack past the UN defined borders for the state of Israel. Israel, on the other hand, attacked and took Jordanian held territory. I am not going to debate hypotheitcals with you. End of story. Right now I am wondering why I would even debate history with you.
