  1. Because anarchy is so much better... oh wait...
  2. Yes and no, I know a lot of people that always vote Conservative, that always vote Liberal, or always vote NDP (with a couple who have gotten into the habit of voting Green because they don't want anyone else to get their vote). It doesn't matter what the media runs, these people are stuck in stone (like the lifetime Republicans vs Democrats but no were near as severe).
  3. I'd say the biggest risk to Canadian elections (and government) is becoming more like the American system with two camps just cursing and spitting on each other day in and day out. It might be just me, but I've recently seen a small but growing movement that is becoming more radical in their approach to politics. Examples include calling Stephen Harper a fascist/Nazi, referring to Canada as a totalitarian regime, etc. I just hope it doesn't spread as I don't want to see ridiculous election campaigns as in the USA.
  4. Come to think of it, the soil is pretty hard (even water doesn't sink in quickly). Thanks for the advice
  5. May I ask what your growing (if anything) instead?
  6. Thanks for the reply, unfortunately its not so much as patches of yellow or dead grass as much as small patches of no grass (think small holes). The grass around these little holes which mark the entire lawn is healthy and grows with a vigor.
  7. Most school boards have counselors set up to help students who are dealing with serious emotional stress etc (i.e. family problems). Giving these students a chance to make up an assignment they couldn't complete makes sense, giving students a chance to make up an assignment they missed because of legitimate reasons makes sense. But simply giving students say a 1/10 on a missed assignment? That hurts everyone except the teachers and boards because of better performance reviews.
  8. And hopefully result in an exciting provincial election. It's in 2013 right?
  9. And how is what their doing addressing the problem? If anything its doing them more harm then good. Its hurting the economy and the governments budget. Do they have a right to protest against tuition hikes? Definitely. Are they proposing solutions on how to balance the budget without raising tuition? Nope, just wasting more money.
  10. Exactly, this "policy" does nothing but hurt students and in turn society en large. You can't just not finish assignments or not show up when in university or in the workforce. Hopefully they stop this ASAP as I fear it might be a gateway to even lower education standards.
  11. I have a question for you guys and girls, my lawn is dying this year and I can't manage to bring it back to life so far. Its starting to get patchy in places were the grass seems to have almost disappeared (almost as if squirrels tore it out, but I rarely see them on my lawn). The soil looks fine, its well watered and I've tried over seeding the entire lawn and specifically the problem spots but only some of them take. Any suggestions?
  12. Well vaccines work more on a herd level, vaccines don't necessarily protect you 100%. But if you and everyone in your environment is vaccinated then everyone is closer to that 100% (until the disease in question is wiped out). And in my opinion anti-vaccine groups fall into the likes of other first world problem band wagons. Just spoiled people that take things for granted.
  13. I wouldn't completely agree, students are now taught that without university there nothing. Therefore everyone goes to university because they have to (a lot of entry level jobs require degrees because its the norm). This is VERY bad because a lot of students have generic degrees that land them in under $50k jobs. So they have debt because of expensive tuition and have to fight in a slow economy.
  14. I'm referring to this action packed season, we've got 6 different winners for 6 races so far (with Hamilton not having a win yet). And so far there's a good chance we might go 7 for 7!
  15. This race weekend looks be very exciting! First two practices saw Hamilton finishing 1'st both times, with Alonso in second and Massa third in the second practice (followed by Vettel who finished second in the first practice). If Hamilton keeps it up (and assuming he has enough fuel in his car this time ) we might have 7 different winners for 7 races!
  16. Protests are taking an anarchist/anti-capitalist turn now against the Formula 1 race. Too bad, looks like it would have been a great race weekend (great weather). What I find most ironic is that the violent protesters (largely the anarchist/anti-capitalist groups) are complaining about wealth inequality etc, which by protesting they are in essence supporting. The Quebec and Montreal government AND people are loosing a lot of money because of the violent protesters, which is in turn hurting business, lowering employment in industries that employ students, increasing government spending (on cleanup and police) etc. The students with a legitimate complaint against tuition cost increases should try and distance themselves from the violent groups as much as possible to hope to succeed (in my opinion). I found an interesting article by former F1 driver and fellow Quebecer Jacques Villeneuve on CBC. "Villeneuve said: "I think these people grew up without ever hearing their parents ever tell them, 'No.'" Link - fixed link
