  1. Thank you for bringing some common sense and facts to this thread.
  2. Here's the latest. the government really has it in for teachers. The first comment after the article is a must read for those who don't understand how many unpaid hours educators dedicate to students. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/british-columbia/bc-teachers-initial-strike-action-poses-safety-issues-for-students-says-government-negotiator/article17840273/
  3. Anyways, they will meet somewhere in the middle which I guess is a decent deal for teachers. The neo-libs I think are getting the hint that the public is with the teachers and BCTF on this one. Plus don't forget the Justice Griffin ruling. BCTF held their ground against the neo-libs.
  4. 13.5% over 3 years is COLA in BC. Can't believe how the neo-libs have it in for teachers. They will force teachers to strike and then watch the public demand better government. http://www.news1130.com/2014/04/04/teachers-and-the-province-no-closer-to-reaching-agreement/?cid=dlvr.it
  5. He is not superior. He is a typical teacher bashing troll who throws out links that have no meaning.
  6. PCT 2017 just throws out lazy links to try to prove a point. It makes him look foolish.
  7. It's all part of the neo-liberal agenda to screw the middles class while giving their corporate buddies a break. BC education has suffered long enouh at the hands of the neo-libs, and you know it MightyAC.
  8. I enjoyed reading this fairy tale. ROFL!!!
  9. My colleagues and I get a kick from reading your baseless rants. We all know there are teacher haters out there and you are proof. Thankfully people like you are a slim minority. Try teaching for a day and see how your views change. Also I spend hundreds of my own money for classroom supplies because we are underfunded. You continue to prove you have no clue.
  10. I provided numerous links and you couldn't refute one of them. Sorry but you lose.
  11. Let's remember why BC teachers took a strike vote. Let's remember. http://vancouverobserver.com/news/bc-government-appeals-court-ruling-slamming-its-abuse-public-education-bargaining-rights
  12. You have no rebuttal to what I cite. You choose to understand only that with which you ignorantly agree. Thankfully grammar is on the way out. It along with worksheets is part of the old way and doesn't constitute the 21st century skills be pushed in schools today: collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and communication. Grammar, hand writing, long division, worksheets, sitting in rows, educators simply being purveyors of knowledge...all those things are out in the 21st century. But you guys can only comment on how things USED to be. It's the 21st century. Try being part of this century. The Canadian public school system is one of the best in the world. And you small minded anti-teacher union rubes should read this. http://www.alternet.org/6-reasons-teachers-unions-are-good-kids Yes teacher unions are good for kids, because they truly care against the neo-liberals who are trying to privatize and create two tiered education.
  13. Shows how little you know. Have you been following the situation in BC? No? Well I'm not surprised. The courts judged in favor of the BCTF and teachers that the neo-liberal government for failing to negotiate in good faith, while trying to force teachers to strike in a failed attempt to get the public to side with the neo-liberals. http://bc.ctvnews.ca/b-c-must-pay-2m-to-teachers-over-class-size-court-battle-1.1658562 What's that? You don't understand the neo-liberal agenda against public education? Well here. Have a read and educate yourself on the issue instead of dropping by with nothing to offer. http://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/EJ987320.pdf http://socialistalternative.ca/posts/650
  14. You are proof that there is a concerted war against their unions and their efforts to protect the middle class from exploitation. Why don't you demand corporations pay more in taxes beyond the low 9% currently paid? BC would be out of debt if they raised corporate taxes. You need to stop drinking the Fraser Institute kool aid and learn to think for yourself.
  15. Are you even aware of the push for personalized learning in BC schools? Didn't think so. Educate yourself with some reality.
  16. I feel sympathy for you. You have no sense of what happens in schools yet you fell like you are an expert because you once attended school. I guess I'm a highway expert because I drive on one. Your views are old fashioned and you have no clue of what is happening. I'll even venture a guess that you have no concept of social justice, just like the neo-liberals and their privatization agenda.
  17. So you just saw my links were from the BCTF and dismissed them without reading. That shows you lack critical thinking, which is a main focus of public schools in the 21st century.
  18. The government has it in for public education. They have been underfunding BC education for years. That's why the Federation has to stand up against the neo-liberal intrusion. I don't think you understand what neo-liberalism is. There are many great articles out there that will enlighten you. https://bctf.ca/publications/NewsmagArticle.aspx?id=21900 http://www.bctf.ca/publications/NewsmagArticle.aspx?id=20410 http://www.academia.edu/726482/Resisting_the_Common-Nonsense_of_Neoliberalism_A_Report_from_British_Columbia
  19. This article sums it up beautifully. Some of you ,ow-information voters really need to read this. http://rabble.ca/news/2014/03/bc-teachers-math-lesson-workers-labour-rights-stability
  20. I enjoy my world as I advocate for a better world through social justice. Public education is strong and people like you are in the minority.
  21. Well, when you went to school there were fewer learners with special needs. and those that had special needs were taken out of the main classroom for individualized instruction. Now everyone is in one class. Smaller class sizes are needed which will result in a need for more educators. That will benefit the learners the most. It's sad that people like you are against helping learners. The BC neo-liberal government needs to return tax dollars stolen from education and given as a tax break to wealthy corporations. Proper education funding is crucial at this point. Those of you who lack facts need to read this to understand. http://www.bctf.ca/uploadedFiles/Public/Parents/ParentLetterJobAction_en.pdf
  22. Well, with the high % of struggling learners these days, small class sizes is a no brainer which will, yes, result in the need for more teachers. Are you a neo-liberal who is driven by corporate interests in education? Because if you are, you could care less about the learners. Public education is for the good of all society and democracy and it must be paid by taxpayers who benefit from the positive influence public education has on society.
  23. Well aren't they lucky in BBC where the BCTF has taken the neo- Liberal Government to the Supreme Court in defense of BC kids & win not only once, but twice.
  24. True. BC teachers are among the lowest paid in Canada. Per pupil funding in MC is 2nd lowest in Canada. BC class sizes are too large with all the needy learners. The public knows it is the kids who are been negatively affected. Neo-libs are hell bent on destroying public education. This explains it. http://www.teachersolidarity.com/sites/teachersolidarity/files/research/Neoliberalism_and_Ed_Reform_CompleteProofs.pdf
  25. Also, it is important to know that per pupil funding in BC is $1000 less/student than the rest of Canada. That is a FACT, even if you choose to close your eyes.
