  1. I'm more worried that this will actually get their base come out and along with the Ryan pick get the hardcore conservatives excited more about Romney. Edit: At the same time it could get Obama's base more excited too.
  2. This is nonsense. It was 1:22 and I barely lasted a minute. 'the toilets dont work in my house and I blame you.' Even for a televised commitee it is garbage. I have to hand it to him though; I didn't think he could get worse after the abortion starter. Edit: and this is your favorite rant of his? Of all time?
  3. Speakers tonight are McCain Rand Paul (w some sort of tribute to his dad) Condoleeza Rice and Ryan Interesting variety.
  4. good point. Rubio said the other day on CNN that his intro to Romney will be 15 minutes. That's F'n long for an intro.
  5. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0812/80362.html?hp=t1_3 To me, these things don't seem to add up How was he 'freed up' if they 'barely changed a word' of his speech? Maybe it is because I didn't see it as a great speech (possibly because I was expecting more from a guy like Christie) but I can't help but think he made a few changes and the Romney people weren't totally on board or aware of them. I also think it would have played better if Ann and Christie didn't contradict each other so harshly. She talked about love and he explicitly said respect is better than love. A more subtle distinction would have been better. I'm still dying to see what Ryan's approach will be. He kinda has to sell Romney but doesnt he have to sell himself too? Is he going to be the attack dog?
  6. I've heard mixed reviews of Ann Romney's speech. I didn't think it was that great. It was ok-good but I was expecting more and I think the camnpaign needed more from her. kimmy is probably right when she said that Ann was probably better in the primaries because she was fired up and sincere and that is hard to do in last night's setting. Anyway, like her speech or not I don't think it will make a difference. Even if it was a good speech it was not great and therefore I don't think it will be remembered. I was kinda in and out of Christie's speech so I'll have to listen to it later. But from what I heard I wish I knew the inside deal on how it was vetted and what the point was. I'm not quite sure of the tactics behind it. It seemed to be about Christie. I thought the Romney people would make him talk more about Mitt. And at times it seemed too scripted. There were a few times where he seemed to be distinctly less sincere. There were similar moments on Ann's speech. I'm very interested to see what Ryan says tonight. Does he defend his Plan? talk nice about Romney? I think a good speech could help with the not so great bump after the VP pick. Also, I would like to know if they change Ryan's speech after the Christie approach last night. I'd like to hear some other thoughts on the actual speeches. Preferably not the 'I liked Ann's because I'm a Republican' and 'Her speech was stupid because the right are idiots.'
  7. I was wrong. She is speaking tonight. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0812/80286.html
  8. Thanks for turning this into another punked v. Shady thread.
  9. They showed Rice a few times but I don't know if she is speaking. I think I'd be surprised if she did. And i would think that if she was going to speak it would have been tonight.
  10. True, but it was so obvious that I can't think that it will work. I thought she was going to try to humanize. I was expecting more from her speech so I'm not even sure if that is what she was trying to do. Lately I have noticed that Mitt's surrogates have kinda given up on trying to make him seem like a nice, in touch guy. Now, they flat out say something like 'would you rather have a nice guy who doesn't solve problems or a problem solver?' Maybe that is why she didnt go that route..?
  11. I like her too but lately I haven't found her as effective as she was in the primaries. This speech isn't as good as I thought it would be. A few good lines. Especially the one about him not wanting to talk about him helping others. But a chunk of her speech was clearly targeted to women despite her saying se wasn't giving a political speech. Also, are they really playing my girl???
  12. Good points. I'm sure the family issues are made worse by the job. Hours, spotlight etc For a 300lb guy long hours can't be good on the heart. Although not much isn't bad for 300 lb guys.
  13. He must have some stress on the job. I'm sure he works long hours and being hounded by the press obviously gets him worked up.
  14. If the bulldozer was the usual type they use it would be impossible for anyone inside to hear anything. They are armored to the point where they are basically tanks with a few small windows.
  15. I dont care for him but did you just compare him to Al Capone? ^this.
  16. What are you talking about? What is your point? Why does it matter if he Is on tape? Even if he was why would they release it? Why. Does. It. Matter?
  17. Apparently Christie turned down the VP spot. I have a feeling Rubio did too. Interesting rule that affects some governors. http://www.propublica.org/article/how-an-obscure-federal-rule-could-be-shaking-up-presidential-politics
  18. You're just asking hypothetical questions. If this and this than why? You can do that til the cows come home. What's the point?
  19. I was trying to get the reason behind the 'conspiracy' out of him.
  20. I like how they think that no one will catch the lie.
