  1. Again, to place that label only plays into the hands of the perpetrators. De-politicize it, call it what it is...murder. Punish accordingly. It doesn't get any more clear than that.
  2. Democratic equality is an oxymoron. The government should not fund parties, ever. And who cares if the neo-cons have a huge lead in TV/radio ad spending? Reasonable minds will remain immune to their rhetoric and demagoguery.
  3. Prevent what? Murder? I've got news for you, unless you make being human illegal - murder ain't going anywhere.
  4. We already live by mob rule, it's called democracy. The police exist for one reason, and one reason only...to protect wealth. In your idea of a so-called libertarian hell-hole, the police work at the bidding of the wealthy...hmmm... Just because you don't see bloody bodies outside your front door everyday does not mean violence of another kind is not being perpetrated against you. Economic violence is pervasive, and every bit as real.
  5. Too much politicizing of this issue. Murder was committed, punish accordingly. The rest is all just noise.
  6. BC's salmon is Canada's? And where does most of the income generated from that industry go? Something tells me it stays predominantly in BC, as well it should. And I don't think Alberta is exactly "shoving" its oil down the throat of all Canadians. We gotta get it somewhere.
  7. AusKanada: Good post. You have summarized the problems pretty well. It is time to end the reserve system, and help these unfortunate Canadians to integrate with the rest of Canadian society. As a taxpayer, I for one, am tired of watching as tens of millions are pumped into this reserve (not exaggerating) for a new school, or new houses, new vehicles, etc etc...only to watch as the people here wreck them because they have no understanding of responsibility or accountability. These are things you learn when you have to work to earn everything that you have, and when that is removed, respect is gone...respect for yourself, for others, and for property of same. None of that gets solved until we wake up and realize that government has created this problem, and the way out is to cut government funding entirely, and force people to move where the jobs are.
  8. It's a misnomer to call what's happening here a "mortgage crisis". We have a wealth crisis, i.e. we're not generating enough real wealth as a general rule across Canada. The problem with housing is a function of our rising cost of living. The cost is rising because we've shifted too far toward a service-based economy, and away from production where real wealth is generated. The problem with mortgages, and housing is just one aspect of a larger systemic problem. And anyone who thinks housing or any other sector of our economy is sustainable is going to be steam-rolled by history.
  9. There are some clueless posts in here with regard to reserves. I live on a reserve in northern Alberta, and I can tell you the financial waste here is staggering. Commenters like "cybercoma" should live in places like this, and then see how "racist" it is to complain about the money we're throwing away here, and on most if not all reserves in this country. The things you've heard are tame compared to the reality I see everyday. The stories you've seen on the news barely scratch the surface. Attawapiskat is the norm, not the exception. If all Canadian taxpayers had the opportunity I've had to live on a large reserve for a few years, they'd be singing a far different tune with regard to federal funding, and the reserve system entirely.
