  1. Thanks for the invite to the History Club, Dog. Looks like I have a lot of great reading ahead of me for the coming long winter months.

I often wonder had JFK lived would he have pulled Americans out of the war and left it to the Vietnamese to settle it themselves.  I've read about the history of the country and once I realized that not a single country that invaded Vietnam ever prevailed why the Americans were so hell-bent on following in the same failed footsteps.  McNamara was well-versed in that history.

Geez.........I still have a visceral reaction to that cover.  Yep, that's the one alright. It's not the photo. It is the three word sentence 'one weeks toll'.

Had I only known back then how iconic that issue would become, I would have saved it.  Reading about it later I found that I was hardly alone in having been galvanized by that edition.

My specific interest is the Vietnam War.  I was a teenager during the years of the war.  I had not paid it much interest until the day that my Dad got his latest copy of Life magazine.  What immediately hit home like a gut punch was that most of the dead were my age or within a couple of years.  Then I thought of the thousands upon thousands of families whose lives would never be quite the same because their boy would never come home.  I started to take a keen interest in anything and everything to do with the war including the political side - and still do.

  5. It’s left wing election extortion.  Violence will subside only if Biden is elected.

  6. Justin Trudeau could literally shoot a person in the street, and his supporters would still defend him.

There is a kernel of truth in what Shady writes for there are political fanatics who will support their candidate no matter the issue and find, what is to them,  a plausible explanation for any type of situation.  I'm quite sure they could find one for the little potato shooting someone.

Mind you, we are not dealing with sound minds, so there is that.

Words are hard to come by when one is faced the enormity of such a tragedy.  The impact of which has reached far beyond the community of Humboldt and has brought people from all over Canada and around the world together in an outpouring of love and support for all those who have been affected by this horrific crash.
