  1. Bizarre. A NDP candidate in the provincial election has accused a BC Liberal candidate of wanting to legalize drugs. Meanwhile, a new BC poll shows that 65% of British Columbians favour decriminalization of marijuana: http://www.ctvbc.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/C...ishColumbiaHome
  2. Short term gain only. It will allow Harper to hold on to power a little longer but ultimately will help the Liberals win a majority. Who can forget how the Conservatives rose dramatically in the polls in December when the other coalition threatened to run the country.
  3. Officially, yes, the conference was about racism but the reality was somewhat different. Why would Israelis be accused of racism against Palestinians? Israelis and Palestinians are of the same race. Both are Semetic.
  4. Apparently so. Stephen Harper was a Young Liberal while in Toronto but switched to the Progressive Conservatives after moving to Alberta.
  5. I agree completely. However, if you are a Westerner it's easier to get away with doing nothing for the West.
  6. Absolutely correct on all counts. Harper even went to the University of Toronto for two months after graduating from high school. Then he dropped out and moved to Alberta.
  7. Who from the radical left said that Harper's religious beliefs were behind ending the income trust loophole?
  8. Maybe it's because Harper grew up in Toronto. He even went to the U of Toronto for two months, then dropped out and moved to Alberta. Harper's not a true Westerner. Maybe that's why he's done nothing for the West. I wonder why he left Toronto? No chance of a political career there perhaps?
  9. I'm from the West and I want him chucked out. What the hell has Harper done for the West anyway other than giving our money away? I don't consider transferring to Quebec billions of dollars extracted from natural resources in the West as doing something for the West. If this wealth transfer had occurred under a different PM, Westerners would be outraged. The transfer of wealth to Quebec in the 2007 budget, which increased annually by billions of dollars, is something the West is still paying for, and will pay next year, and the year after... It seems to me that Harper has not only done nothing for the West but knows that he can continue to do nothing for the West and the West will continue to vote for him merely because he's from the West.
  10. It bears remembering that faced with intractable and unwanted groups such as the Mafia and Aryan Nations, the U.S. government didn't break them through incarceration. It bankrupted them. http://www.vancouversun.com/Life/legal+bil...2644/story.html
  11. For decades it has remained a mystery as to who authored the "clever" prose found in fortune cookies and how the author amused himself when he had time on his hands. The mystery will soon be solved.
  12. The conference was boycotted by nine countries, namely Australia, Canada, Germany, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, and the US. EU president The Czech Republic left on the first day and boycotted the remainder of the conference while 23 members of the union sent low-level delegations. Among the concerns expressed by the western countries was that the conference would not deal with discrimination against homosexuals. http://www.monitor.co.ug/artman/publish/fe...ism_83979.shtml The media rarely report that many of the same countries which accuse Israel of "racism" also jail people for homosexuality.
  13. In the end, it may be legal bills that sink the polygamists. It appears that they don't have the funds for their Supreme Court challenge. http://www.vancouversun.com/Life/legal+bil...2644/story.html
  14. Sure, Harper supporters really care about the opinions of economists. Most economists thought that cutting personal income tax rates would stimulate the economy more than cutting the GST. Harper totally ignored them. Personal income tax rates in Canada were last lowered in 2005. "Economist" Harper learned nothing from Preston Manning other than to join the same fundamentalist Evangelical church denomination, the Christian and Missionary Alliance.
  15. My mistake entirely. In fact he said the opposite. Stephen Harper: “There will be some who want to cut and run, but cutting and running is not my way and it’s not the Canadian way."
  16. Really? What's he done for the West?
  17. And Harper has never broken a promise...
  18. A few months ago, Stephen Harper decided that "we" could not win in Afghanistan and announced a date by which Canada would cut-and-run. Is that what is meant by supporting the troops? Or is that not supporting the troops? Or is it a response to the polls? Or a cheap and cynical way to buy votes in Quebec?
  19. How about the billions Harper shovelled out of the rest of Canada to Quebec in 2007? Those billions were not a one time deal. They are annual. Were they also not a handout? You may recall that Duceppe voted in favour of the 2007 budget.
  20. I kind of like the fact that Harper had to grovel to the Queen's representative a few months ago in order to be given permission to continue to govern. And Jean's decision was a good one. Had she given Harper the boot, he might very well have won a majority against a Dion-led coalition. As its turned out, Canadians will get to give Harper the boot in the next election.
  21. Michaelle Jean's boss is the Queen. The Queen is Canada's Head of State. Stephen Harper is not Canada's Head of state despite all the eye liner. Stephen Harper would not be governing today had Michaelle Jean not given him permission to govern in January, 2009. According to the English Act of Settlement, all kings and queens of England must be members of the Church of England. Therefore, Canada's Head of State cannot be Catholic.
  22. You don't really believe that Harper's motive is guilt, do you? I suspect his motive is to hold power at all costs even if it means the West funnelling billions of dollars into Quebec.
