Democrats want U.S. Iraq withdrawal
Leafless replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
So Iraq cannot and will not take care of itself? Ever? This depends how you view and personally want the world to evolve. If you feel the world should be dominated and ruled by terrorist rather than the system currently employed by the free world, that is your decision. I am certain you realize that there are groups in the world that would tremendously desire to take what we have built. -
I think all American presidents have done a wonderful job in establishing the U.S. as a super power and leader of the civilized world. Of course saying this shames countries like Canada who are still stuck back in the middle ages trying to determine who we are culturally and who is currently and illogically giving the country away culturally. The most important president to date though in my opinion is George W. Bush who must deal with the tremendous responsibility of maintaining a free world and at the same time preserve U.S. interest and western ideologies. This president is now hampered by illogical Democrats who will I predict, worsen this situation and as a result could be forced to take drastic preventive measures that could come to late resulting in a totally unmanageable situation.

Democrats want U.S. Iraq withdrawal
Leafless posted a topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Democrats said Sunday said on Sunday they will push for a phased withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq to begin in four to six months. Do this and all the effort concerning the 'war on terrorism' in Iraq could be a lost cause. In fact with Saddam out of the way and the pull out of U.S. troops, Iraq could become a more organized potent force than under the leadership of Saddam. http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews....xml&src=rss -

Liam, you are asking basically asking the same question in two different threads. Please read the reply in this section under 'Rumsfeld departure, a sad loss, post #71. Don't worry, I am just as fed up with the lack of political insight the left continually presents as you are with your perceived slandering you receive from dedicated Canadian citizens such as myself and fail to ackowledge it as justified. -

The ignorance of this statement is astounding. Where did you pull that from? Because I don't fall lockstep in line with the Rush Limbaughs I am against the success of western ideologies? Get real. If anything, I'd say that the tendency of some toward nationalism and authoritarianism are antithetical to western thought. Look in the mirror. You've already banished western ideology from your own brain. You went to lengths in post #63 describing the U.S. invasion of Iraq as a blundered failure caused by an incompetent Bush and Rumsfeld. It's obvious you do not consider the Iraq war on terror an absolute necessity concerning the salvation of western ideologies. Anyone with a sense of strong western values knows automatically the Iraqi war on terrorism is not a war to be criticized under any circumstance especially by a westerner. This is complicated by the fact U.S. citizens could have a legitimate complaint concerning the cost factor but not the main factor which is the elimination of Islamic terrorism. I find anyone to go to the lengths you have to be this critical of this Iraq conflict is not one to possess western interest at heart and as a result you could be viewed as a traitor by citizens of both the U.S. and Canada, especially not being a U.S. citizen. -

Leafless replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
You seem to have a hatred for Muslims. I thought freedom of religion was a basic tenet of Canadian and American ideology. I can't recall you ever saying that the terrorism is not related to Muslim people as a whole. I thought freedom of speech was also a basic tenet. You've listed people that you want banned. For what reason would you carry around this McCarthy-like list? What rules have been broken? What rules do you think the people that you listed should be banned? Anyone who thinks the Republicans did a poor job in this election or that Rumsfeld was a poor Defence Secretary is a traitor to the west? Anyone who thinks that Iraq is a mess is a traitor? Who made you judge, jury and executioner? We have two types of basic ideologies in Canada and they conflict against one another. The first ideology is a basic believe in western culture and values. Then we have the Liberal invented Charter of Rights and Freedoms that actually promotes anti-western ideologies in this country and sadly even encourages potential terrorist activity by allowing an unreasonable leash on freedoms that work against national security and values in this country. I am exercising my rights according to my loyalties pertaining to western ideologies in my country. You on the other hand are taking advantage of our flawed charter and saying things you would not probably be saying in the absence of the charter. I am not promoting the banning of anyone but pointing out our flawed system in which people like you use to beat down western culture and values and U.S. incentives which is part of our western culture. Naturally any sort of banning is done by the moderator and if I were moderator I would consider banning people on this site who think exploiting charter rights trumps western culture and values. -

I can read but you can't spell, it seems. I'm well aware of terrorism. However, you seem to think that all Muslims are responsible. Not only that, you say I support terrorism. I personally think you should be banned for trolling. I seem to think all Muslims are responsible for terrorism? Where did I say that? But I see anyone that is against the U.S and it's allies quest against terrorism as a traitor to western ideologies and their respective countries. Are you saying you never spoke out against U.S initiatives or it's ideologies against the war on terror? -

Leafless replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
What is the success of western ideologies that you keep talking about? And why keep associating people with terrorism? Anyone who thought Rumsfeld did a poor job is against the west? Does that include McCain? Are you in some kind of denial that the U.S. is a successful super power and Canada's success as a country is directly owed to that fact? "And why keep associating people with terrorism? Anyone who thought Rumsfeld did a poor job is against the west? Does that include McCain?" I have no idea what you are driving at. I believe in western ideologies and don't have any biases against the U.S or it's politicians. -
Deny it if you wish, but we are all sexual animals and the product of a sexual act. What you are talking about is eternal subconscious search for sexual gratification that varies in intensity from person to person. I firmly believe this 'eternal search for sexual gratification' is genetically embedded somewhere in that blob of grey matter, from our early days of man living in caves where as any quantity or type of sex was freely available and thus we became sexually spoiled as in comparison to the limits imposed by society and law to-day. To-day that search for sexual gratification for most people is limited, outside of flings and prostitutes, to erotica and pornography. But I do believe all these impulses are generally and fairly easy controllable in most of us, just as it is fairly easy quitting smoking.

Iraq can be compared to the brawling hotel drunk who gets knocked down for the fifth time but still bounces up for more punishment and then wonders why he ends up in intensive care. American public now sees Iraq as a pointless money pit with no end results. Americans are more interested in their own economy and concerns like illegal immigration. Everything you wrote in your post is only personal opinion and is not backed up with any sort of authoritative proof. It seems you are one of the ones against the success of western ideologies. -
I know Canada won't say anything, but I hope the U.S. takes concrete action against these moronic mad dog killer terrorist and their constant barrage of threats. Anyone on this site who approves of these Islamic terrorists or their cause is a traitor to our western ideologies, culture and lifestyles and should be banned from posting on Maple Leaf Web. http://www.canada.com/montrealgazette/news...ae0d&k=1018

Quebec continues support to Francophone's in ROC
Leafless replied to Leafless's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
In the U.S. many individual states have declared themselves officially English speaking. It seems though Quebec is the only province in Canada 'ALLOWED' (by the feds) to unilaterally declare themselves officially French although ALL OTHER provinces in Canada are suppose to have that same right. Outside of Quebec all other provinces would be officially English if it was not for federal government interference not allowing it, which is totally undemocratic and oppressive. I think you might realize Charles the problem has little to do with preserving the French culture in Quebec, but rather a lot to do with extracting billions of dollars from the other provinces in Canada under the guise of doing this as an official minority culture. -
Rumsfeld departure a sad loss
Leafless replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Uhhh, really? If we went in there to root out al-Qaeda, this is the first I've heard of it. Of course Cheney and Bush kept conflating Iraq and 9/11 -- which no one with two brain cells believed -- only to later issue "no, we never said Saddam was responsible for 9/11" statements when the press stopped rolling over for them. Did you drop off the GOP talking points email list? Rumsfeld is a smart guy, but the planning of the war and the administration of the post-war period (are we even in it?) were unmitigated disasters. Whether that was the fault of Rumsfeld or Bush will come out after the Democrats are sworn in and start poring over the files and internal memos and intelligence reports. If Iraq is the way it is because Bush went against Rumsfeld's counsel (i.e., Bush wanted a small, light force to topple Saddam), then Rumsfeld should have either done whatever was necessary to shake Bush of disillusion or resign in protest once it became obvious the war was going downhill. If Iraq is the way it is because of Rumsfeld's obstinance and ego, then he was an utter failure as Defense Secretary. Either way, Rumsfeld's legacy will be one of incompetence and dishonor. He will not be missed outside the Beltway and certainly not in the battlefields around the globe. So you never heard of the Al-Qaeda/Iraq connection, is that what your saying? http://www.weeklystandard.com/Content/Publ...06/550kmbzd.asp The U.S. went into Iraq to topple Saddam as part of the war on terror and it was a success. The problem is these guys who are the perpetual trouble makers not Bush or Rumsfeld. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/4268904.stm Why don't you start thinking RIGHT or maybe you and BD can permanently take up residence in Iraq or one of those other fine Arab countries. BTW, can you prove chemical WMD are not buried somewhere in the thousands of square miles of desert, not that any one CARES. -

I will reiterate: "Iraq is one strange place." The U.S. and it's allies went into Iraq to topple Saddam and search out Al Qaeda terrorist. It turns out the U.S. and allies are basically fighting Islamic fascist. This as transformed into a war of civilizations and where it will go from here, no one is quite sure. Rumsfeld did his part well as no one in the WORLD has the capability to plan ahead concerning this conflict or even truly coming to grips with the enormous volatile ramifications this initial conflict has presented. -

If you're going to attribute those points above to old Rummy, you also have to tag on the tens of thousands of (maybe 100's of thousands) deaths of innocents, and of course U.S. and allied deaths. You truly can have it both ways. What do deaths have to do with anything and forget the deaths of civilians as any war produces casualties. You also have a short memory as Saddam was given the opportunity to surrender before the actual war began but declined. All these deaths could have been avoided. Anyways the question was: "What did Rumsfeld do well." -

Not everybody is so convinced. Chris Hedges Chris Hedges is a pacifist who is a graduate from Harvard Divinity School and who's father was a Presbyterian Minister. He was also captured by the Iraqi's and Central America. I wouldn't be doing back flips concerning anything this guy writes. -
Rumsfeld departure a sad loss
Leafless replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I am curious to see what miracles the Democrats are going to suggest be implemented in Iraq. Iraq is one strange place. It's population has adjusted to the violent oppressive tactics of the Saddam Hussein dictatorship and any other form of government outside of violence and oppression it seems is seen by many Iraqis as not being welcome. It appears backward Iraqis cannot handle freedom and democracy and this I predict will be a major stumbling block for years to come. Donald Rumsfeld could have accomplished more if it was not Turkey disallowing U.S. 4th infantry to come through Turkey from the north resulting in a lot more Baathists being captured or killed and the insurgency to-day would have been probably less intense. What Donald Rumsfeld actually did along with U.S. allies was: 1.- Free 25-million Iraqi's. 2.-Established a strong Dinar with the economy on the rebound. 3.- Opened universities, schools, hospitals and clinics. 4.-Completion of 600 reconstruction projects. 5.-Re-introduced Iraq's pertaining to law and order as police, operational military, border guards , civil defense duties. I think Rumsfeld did remarkably well under the conditions and outside of perhaps a greater more intense attack initially, I doubt if anyone else could do a better job. I don't agree with your description of "Saddam's pitiful army" who took refuge with the civilian population and fought from civilian neighbourhood's creating problems for the U.S. and it's allies. In fact insurgent tactics are pretty much the same as these murdering cowards continue to take out members of their own population and hiding among their own civilian population as well. All the forces in the forces in the world would be hard pressed to permanently clean out this bunch of ignorant, backward nut cases outside of total annihilation. And we don't want that , do we?
