The Many Positions of Stephen Harper
Leafless replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada

Will Stéphane Dion ever be PM of Canada?
Leafless replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
If Dion ever gets to become PM it will be by the hand of Canadians who are mesmerized with the Liberals, no other reason. I am convinced the Liberals could possibly win LEADERLESS simply because of Canadians who believe in the 'socialist equality bit' and the French and immigrant factor. Canada has been culturalized without the consent of Canadians, who have allowed the passage of the flawed, discriminatory Charter of Rights and Freedoms that has overshadowed and impeded the normal running of this countries business. The case of Maher Arar is an excellent example of a dysfunctional government that caters to the follies of socialist desires concerning the over extension of rights and privileges rather than contend with national security efforts of both Canada and the U.S. -
CBC reports settlement between government and Arar
Leafless replied to Melanie_'s topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Arar suffered no lasting effects from his alleged torture, or it certainly would have been reported. I would go through what he did for a measly $1-million. Anytime!!!!! -

Money to the government spent in court, especially when trying to set a precedent, really means nothing to government. I believe the government would have won regardless. This was all about minority votes....Muslim votes. I also find this horribly despicable. -
Un-Canadian, please, more like un-Leafless (which btw you may consider that for me is un-Canadian, lol). Fortunately for both of us though, our opinion of each other's Canadian-ness is not the issue here. You don't know where to start with the rebuttals, here, I'll help.... Is it not true not China could serve as an economic benefit for Canada but Harper decided that speaking out against their human-rights was more important? Is it not true that the US has broken human rights in Gitmo and Abu Ghraib but for some reason Harper does not feel it so necessary to speak out against those human rights? Is it not true that Israel serves absolutely no economic advantage to Canada, and its unquestioning support may in fact endanger Canada, yet Harper does not speak out against the human-rights of Israel in the same manner he does for its enemies? Like I said , you do not speak for the capitalistic ideologies that guide the Western world and serve as a base for its interest. I cannot refute anything in your post with an individual as anti-Western as you are. It would be totally illogical to do so.

PM Hints Energy Cash Safe from Ottawa
Leafless replied to Ricki Bobbi's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Never mind the fancy terminology non-renewable resources, as the fact of the matter is that ANY provincial resource that ACTS AS A REVENUE should be included pertaining to the calculations for equalization. The fiscal capacity of the provinces is determined from the measurement of 33 different sources. Personal income taxes Business income taxes Capital taxes General and miscellaneous sales taxes Tobacco taxes Gasoline taxes Diesel fuel taxes Non commercial vehicle licenses Commercial vehicle licenses Revenues from the sale of alcoholic beverages Hospital and medical insurance premiums Race track taxes Forestry revenues New oil revenues Old oil revenues Heavy oil revenues Mined oil revenues Third-tier oil revenues Heavy third-tier revenues Natural gas revenues Sales of crown leases Other oil and gas revenues Mineral resources Water power rentals Insurance premiums Payroll taxes Provincial-local property taxes Lottery ticket revenue Other games of chance revenues Miscellaneous provincial-local taxes and Revenue Shared revenues: Offshore activities/Newfoundland Shared revenues: Offshore activities/Nova Scotia Shared revenues: Preferred Share Division No where to be seen is ANYTHING associated with hydro revenues especially pertaining for export to a foreign country. -
No. It appears you know nothing what Western values are or for that matter what Canadian political interest are. You certainly are entitled to your opinion. But given that your opinion of me is not the reason I came to this forum, perhaps next time you may try rebutting what I say instead. How can I refute something that I consider is totally un-Canadian and anti-Western? Perhaps someone else will refute what you posted.

The Harper government is adhering to insane Liberal social policy and is only laughing at Canadians who have built and died for this country. This will only make Canada the laughing stock of the world. -
PM Hints Energy Cash Safe from Ottawa
Leafless replied to Ricki Bobbi's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
No. Then this is amazing. The way I understand it is Quebec hydro is nationalized and hydro generated power is not considered an nonrenewable energy resource in the same manner oil and natural gas is. Hydro revenue from Quebec's hydro resources is FUNNELED directly back into Hydro Quebec which the Quebec government draws from, similar to a bank account. This amount is NOT included in calculation for equalization payments simply because hydro is considered a renewable resource. If this amount was calculated into equalization, I doubt Quebec would have not be considered a 'have not province'. -

Speaking of energy revenue. Does anyone know if Quebec's hydro profits are included in calculation for equalization payments? -
Cultural concerns? What? Like promising a free vote on Gay Marriage? That ain't a cultural concern? How about the needless spectre of reopening the abortion debate? What is cultural about sexual orientation or the abortion debate? Answer: Nothing. It seems minority groups in Canada are pressuring for federal attention based on cultural aspects, originating primarily from language and religion. This of course is not the primary importance of the federal government to compete for votes based on foreign cultures political aspirations and could create a whole new dimension in Canadian politics including the possible destruction and collapse of federalism.

" The controversy in Europe over face veils worn by Muslim women could spread to other countries, but Canada's immigration ministry has "no clear departmental policy" on the issue, warns a confidential briefing note prepared for former Citizenship and Immigration Minister Monte Solberg." http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/s...59166c00&k=6198 ----------------------------------------------------------------- If Canada has no clear policy on face veils, why then: "The note cautions the department's guidelines for passport photographs, which require that facial features be visible, "have implications for the removal of face veils." Obviously this is for security reasons. What good is this type of security pertaining to 'national security when the users of these veils can walk around perpetually with, in most part, their faces covered. British 'House of Commons' leader Jack straw called the veil " a "visible statement of separation and difference."

" Following Foreign Affairs Minister Peter MacKay's first Middle East tour, Canadian Arabs and Muslims are threatening to campaign against the Conservative government in the next federal election because of it what is says is a continued pro-Israeli stand." http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/s...d3ca422&k=16387 --------------------------------------------------------------- What is happening to Canada? It seems Canadian politics is being transformed into 'cultural concerns showdown' that affect federal politics that in turn determine a federal party fortune.
-
"The sponsorship scandal came back to haunt Liberals today after newly minted Leader Stephane Dion suggested at least one of the organizers disgraced by the affair should be welcomed back into the party." http://www.thestar.com/News/article/174517 "Dion was forced to clarify after telling a Quebec newspaper that he has no objections to Marc-Yvan Cote, a former key party organizer in eastern Quebec, being allowed to resume his Liberal membership. He told Le Soleil that Cote's punishment was exaggerated, that he'd recognized his error and shouldn't be penalized for life. He stressed, however, that no decision had been made to readmit Cote and that it was up to the party president to decide." ------------------------------------------------------------------ What do you expect with a Liberal leader who is also a citizen of France. Liberal fortunes are certain to bloom.

This will be the perpetual problem due to the fact Quebec cannot let go of the past and worst of all, refuses to linguistically assimilate with the rest of the country. I find it incomprehensible that Quebec initially would seek partnership as a province in confederation, knowing all along it had no intention of disabling its past history, relating to Canadian unity.
-
Is was initially a confederation of colonies, not a marriage, something Quebec welcomed with open arms and initially agreed to. But Quebec is continually changing its mind regarding the need to establish its own country since it cannot dominate Canada to conform to Quebec ideologies. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Confederation

The U.S. has national interest, as do 'tin pot dictators'. http://www.fff.org/comment/com0501i.asp Who's side are you on? And guess what, Iran could be in serious trouble again. http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3355234,00.html

In a court of law, Arar's story is so full of holes it would make the titanic LOOK GOOD. Why should the U.S. allow a wayward Arab and his gang of welfare lawyers to possibly damage the security of the U.S. and dominate its national security with political scenario's that are not in U.S. interest?
-
"Wilkins defended a U.S. decision not to participate in the Arar inquiry, saying it was chiefly about Canadian officials and the actions they took." http://www.thestar.com/article/162824 ----------------------------------------------------------- What country in the world 'outside of Canada' would publicly cripple its national security system for a single 'wayward Arab' and open the floodgates for others?

"French presidential candidate Ségolène Royal, seen here at a press conference in Paris on Tuesday, told reporters on Monday she supported "sovereignty and liberty" for Quebec, prompting a rebuke from Prime Minister Stephen Harper. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/ottawa/story/2007...ance-royal.html -------------------------------------------------------------- Segolene royal IS supporting Quebec political aspirations when she said: "In Tuesday's radio interview, Royal said she was not referring to "institutional reforms" but that Quebecers are free to decide on their own future." Since there is NO Canadian constitutional process to accommodate Quebec separation Segolene Royal is sticking her nose in political affairs that is none of her business. Butt out baby!

Chavez can be compared to a prostitute. He leaches off of the proceeds of capitalistic ventures and then spits in the face of capitalist. Even prostitutes don't spit in the face of their john's.
