  1. I far prefered the format. You could actually hear them and their platforms. It also helped you to disect the men from the boys. Layton was a definate boy. He was always interrupting, talking after the alloted time, kept telling everyone to vote NDP like we didn't know that is who he was and acted like a little motormouth. I was very disapointed. Duceppe seemed like the most likeable one of the whole lot. I don't think I'll be voting for him though. Harper can across well and had the best closing statement but that said, I think surprisingly, Martin did the best of the whole lot.
  2. Since when is Communism the same as Socialism. You are getting the two mixed. Remember, free schools, labour laws, health care, pensions, aid for the poor and disabled etc..................are ALL Socialistic ideals. None of us would be on this line right now because none of us could read. You are able to write the sentence you did because of some hardcore Socialist ideals.
  3. My current riding of Saanich/Islands BC currently has a Conservative MP. I would have to find out which party has the best chance of dethroning him and then vote accordingly. I am one of the many "anyone but the Conservative" voters. Hopefully it would be NDP or Green but if not I would bite my tongue { and probably forfet my soul} and vote Liberal.
  4. The Conservatives will NEVER, I repeat NEVER get a seat in Quebec. The Liberals may lose some to the Bloc but the Liberals have a stronghold on the WestIland and a few other places. They know how to vote strategically. They would be far too worried about splitting the non-separtist vote. They will bit their tongue and vote Liberal as always. Also, lets be serious Harper is seen as a redneck Albertan and Canada hasn't voted in a majority government without a Quebec leader since the 60s. Also if Ontario sees a possible Conservative government they will vote the "anything but the Conservatives" vote to keep the right wing out of power.
  5. I actually believe in Intelligent Design. I put a lot of faith in science and do not believe that science and ones belief are neccessarily incompatible. I happen to believe in a higher power which created all things. I don't believe there was a beginning of our universe but has simply always been, its just that that is too hard for many a scientist to grasp. I don't believe that one day all there was was a little rock and then it for some unknown reason blew up and voila, a universe. That said, those are MY beliefs. They should not be brought into the schools. Belief systems/religion has absolutly no place in our school system. It should be taught as strickly science and what we know to be true and what we think we know. If kids or parents believe in something else that is their purogative but that is at home. Religion and the public school system must NEVER meet.
  6. I think Alberta separation is a real possibility and if they go then so will be BC. Maybe Sask but I don't know about Manitoba. Manitoba has always been more centrist in its views. Of all in the West Manitobans are the most likelky to say they are Canadians first and Manitobans second. This is also bared out in the poll where support for separation is lowest in Manitoba. If, or should I say when, Quebec goes I don't think Alberta could stand staying with Ontario having more than half the population and GDP. Tell ya one thing, if the feds try anything even remotly close to the NEP again, they would be gone by dinner time. Even now there is talk of nationalizing some of the oil industry. That support level is highest in Quebec at 74% and we all know how the national agenda starts and finishes with Quebec's demands.
  7. Don't feel sorry about wanting to Ontario out of confederation. I live in BC and they think Calgary is east. They all hate Ontario and REALLY hate Toronto but have never been to either. If my family wasn't out here I would move back to Ontario in a heartbeat. If Quebec were to go then I would want Ontario to go as well. I wouldn't want the yahoos from the west getting anymore proportional power. Ontario is a progressive, dynamic province with more ethnic, cultural, economic, political and urban diversity than any of the other provinces. Family or not, if Ontario were to leave I would pick up and pack my bags for Toronto {or my hometown London} within the hour and never look back.
