Carbon Tax: Define How It Works -- IF You Can, That Is
Eddy replied to Eddy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
After that flash of pontificating brilliance "Elon Musk-style", now I understand why he paid a meagre $45 billion for Twitter... -

You can't respect me, yet somehow through some miraculous transformative process, I'm your "pal". That's gotta be just too rich, even for the likes of you. -
"The Smiling Donald": Is There Even Such A Thing?!
Eddy replied to Eddy's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Just look at Trump's physical expressions-body language as he pontificates on in that linked video: his mannerisms so very much ape Benito Mussolini newsreel footage of 1920's - 1930's Italy that it's absolutely uncanny. Mussolini preferred in those salad days of his to be called "El Deuce" -- maybe Trump will favour the moniker, "El Trumpey". -

Hey everyone, just climb down off of all that "bot", "Buddy" & "Dude" stuff -- I'm as flesh-and-blood real as any one of you purport to be, & you have hardly earned any right to address me as either "Buddy", or "Dude". You don't see me addressing anyone here as being a "redneck yokel", do you? I expect that same sort of consideration in return -- if it's not stretching your respective English vocabularies to the extreme limit, that is. -
Asking around & listening to media reports, I have come to the singular conclusion here that absolutely nobody in the country of Canada has so much as even an inkling of how this Great White Hope -- the Carbon Tax -- is supposed to work...not even the perpetrators who inflicted this exercise in futility onto us all, the Liberal party of Canada. First-off, just how big is my specific household's carbon footprint anyway, that the feds see fit to send me a rebate cheque every few months...? I don't recall greeting any civil servant carbon emissions inspector knocking on my front door (unless I just wasn't at home at the time, of course). Secondly, how does my financial support help in removing that 1.5%(!) of global carbon emissions that are attributable to this country? Has the Canadian version of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers strategically placed mechanical carbon scrubbers-filters all across the landscape to capture & remove said carbon...? I don't believe that any were erected here in our area of the land...were some placed in your neighbourhood, maybe? So just what really & truly gives here, anyway -- beyond giving "gainful employment(!)" to a part of that 40% increase of Canadian civil servants since Trudeau got elected in 2015...? (So what's a few hundred -- thousands, even -- of additional paper-shufflers between friends anyway, right?).

I grow tired of seeing that perennial look of anger gracing Donald Trump's visage. Is that man never happy...? Or is the poor old guy simply afflicted with some gastronomical ailment or other, one that manifests itself in perpetual stomach gas & the heartbreak of efforts at incessant flatulence suppression...?

"...This is why I have very little regard for your kind..." You know what...? I'm actually flattered by that last remark of yours. But here's something that even you won't be able to wrap your head around: unlike you & others of your ilk, I'm a "non-polarized" political supporter -- in other words, I'm a poltical atheist in that I don't believe anything that any of them might say. Dubbya was a puppet of his veep & capitalist forces, Obama was an impotent nothing who entered 2 terms guided by "Hope!" that was in essence hopeless, & Sleepy Joe is...well, I know what he isn't -- he isn't The Donald. Yet oddly enough, that's just A-OK by me. -
Certain people in Toronto just can not wrap their heads around the fact that a slight, demure woman of Asian extraction was able to wield her authority over much bigger loud-mouthed bellicose men into doing what was, in essence, her own bidding. You may not realize it just yet, but what the mayor has done so far is straighten the keels on several ships that were listing badly. If you're a citizen of the city, you'll surely come to appreciate that fact soon enough. If you're not, well, then you're just another opinion...& everyone has one of those things, just like everyone in possession of a major body orifice tucked well into their respective "nether region". Only some are bigger ones than others.

You die-hard Trump aficionados have strayed beyond the pale, to the point of no return. Unbelievable how U.S. politics has lost its way & in so short a time, that people like you would go out of their way to public support some orange-coiffed grifter whose only real accomplishment in life was hosting a "reality" (as if) show on television. Well komrades, they say that people get the government that they deserve -- & I hope that you get your "just deservings"...& in spades, too. I'm sure you will. -
It is simply and absolutely mind-blowing that a country like the United States of America can e blessed with the knowledge & ability to successfully land human beings upon the moon, lead the world in scientific & medical development, be a global beacon of entertainment-culture, etc. etc etc. -- and yet seriously & legitimately consider electing the likes of Donald Trump into the most powerful position on Earth... His latest bleatings on allowing Putin to do what he might wish to do to NATO members that are in arrears is simply incomprehensible. And that, surely, is but a miniscule tip of the next Trump presidency iceberg. I would urge readers to catch a showing of the movie "Idiocracy" which is surely available via streaming on some TV channel-outlet or other, near you. Because that is the very future that America is destined & doomed for.

I must say, I take considerable personal pleasure in seeing the prime minister of Canada currently flailing helplessly about of late, not unlike an overturned turtle... It all stems back to 2015 days, when I actually championed Justin Trudeau with my friends as being the last hope that the Liberal party of Canada so very desperately was in need of to simply retain a modicum of legitimacy. Here was a potential leader who was just perfect to fit the bill: he was young, fresh, affable, quite attractive-looking, and brought a family with him to the mix. He was different from all of his predecessors. And the best thing of all? He sported the exact same last name of his father, Pierre Elliott Trudeau that -- for better, or for worse -- carried instant name recognition & resonance with Canadians everywhere. But after watching him just 2 - 3 times on the evening TV news back then, it became very much apparent to me that whatever bounty may have blessed the top of his head, it wasnot matched by any inner access. This reality was made more than apparent by his style of public speaking: in cozy one-on-one scenarios and public speech engagements he was all in pontificating & lecture mode, deliberately pausing for interpretive effect -- but with his eyes rapidly diverting focus to one side ahead of him, as if he was reading some sort of an instant oral-to-visual-teleprompter situated just out of view. And his impromptu scrums with the press were entertainment personified as I eventually caught-on & took delight in counting the very many "uh's" that he'd habitually intersperse in his responses. Trudeau enjoyed and essentially became empowered with unchallenged years of impotent & ineffective Conservative leadership, & mistakenly came to assume that that party's perennial weakness was, in fact, nothing but a sure sign of his own personal strength & extensions of his boundless ego & arrogance. But in intervening years all of Trudeau's mis-steps both in the economy & on the world stage had gone through what can only be described as having been periods of "gestation", & were coming home to roost & to haunt him. And worse still, the Conservative party of Canada finally selected a leader who essentially "takes no prisoners" & actually derives great personal pleasure in skewering the prime minister both publicly and in the House. Now, this is hardly a personal endorsement of Pierre Poilievre -- he has baggage of his own to wrestle with -- but it is a sigh of relief in that the majority of Canadians are able to, at long last, see what I saw some 8 - 9 years ago.

Well I simply have to admit it, my opinion of Olivia Chow has come under some very serious re-consideration by yours truly, based upon a couple of what I consider to be absolutely brilliant political manoeuvrings executed on her part... First-off, she wisely assessed the minimal value to Toronto's future of a long since forgotten Ontario Place and a well-past-its-best-before-date Science Centre, and unloaded them onto Doug Ford to do with whatever he might wish for the sake of Ontario to do, coupled to the re-naming of some arena or other in the city in memory of his brother Rob...and all in exchange for the unloading onto Doug Ford's lap of those two municipal (and perennial) money-pits, the Gardiner Expressway and the Don Valley Parkway. Ford got the absolute worst of that deal, because Ontario's "giving" on these aging roadways will be forever -- but Chow just signed two papers to forever unload Toronto of two red herrings. Next, Chow threatened to raise municipal property taxes on Toronto households in order to raise much-needed capital to address the city's refugee crisis, an issue that surely is deserving of serious federal attention since Ottawa was directly responsible for the situation to even occur in the first place. So what happened...? The 73 MP's whose constituents all reside in Toronto -- and whose voters grew extremely angry at all of them for essentially forcing a 10.5% property tax on them -- beat a hasty retreat to PM Justin Trudeau's front door demanding action not only for the sake of these very constituents, but for themselves, too. And by extension, the Liberal party itself. So what happened...? The city of Toronto received what can only be described as being the lion's share of recently released relief funds of largess from Ottawa. And the tax rate was still raised by 9.5% anyway, in realistically keeping with tax rates that were short-sightedly keep unrealistically low for years and years, to the detriment of the city's finances. Now if only she could curb her enthusiasm for the extremes of her "wish list"! So far however, she's done just a superlative job in righting the wrongs of her predecessors at city hall. Machiavelli had nothing on this girl...!
