  1. I think we have a handful of real CINOs on board, and that is why we have these snarky remarks about the reform party.  Those posters simply illustrate the elitism of so called progressive conservatives that we split the party to rectify.  YOU left the conservative movement and supported partisan progressive conservatives.  I assumed all the CINOS have left and joined up with the Liberal Party where you belong.  Trudeau seems like a natural choice for PCs.

Again, why are you so consumed by the politics of a foreign country. This is Canada, not Zimbabwe, Pakistan. United States or Bolivia. American politics are the antithesis of Conservatism. It is like those bozos who said Khrushchev was a liberal and Breshnev was a Conservative. Republicanism is the complete opposite of Conservatism.

One point of the thread title is the only person to ever defeat a Trudeau is Joe Clark. If he had not been betrayed by the Social Credit / Reform party, Trudeau senior would never have come back.

Joe Clark?  Where is that barf icon?  We went through the Reform process as a rejection of fake conservatism of the Joe Clarks.

the significance to you, as a Canadian, is that it was the founding of your state

the founding of the modern British classically liberal state, that went on to rule the waves by these means

William of Orange, the Dutch Regent, established Westminster Parliamentary Supremacy

the House of Commons & the House of Lords, two sword lengths apart, at Westminster

    in the Glorious Revolution 1688

and that is the same Westminster Parliament upon the Hill in Ottawa

Yes so would that make him the precursor of the Whig party?

as I am an Upper Canadian Orangeman

we are the Hants County Smith's, from Windsor Nova Scotia, ever since

I don't know what it means to be an Organgeman, but I am a fan of Willian of Orange.

Heh, what kind of conservative leaders or websites do you follow?  I head over to Free Republic and Hot Air.  Hot Air is now driven in its articles to promote never Trumpism, but a lot of conservatives over there like giving them hell.  I've basically quit all the never Trump publications like Forbes, National Review Online and the craven fools at Fox News.  I wish we could get OAN here.

  6. Yeah I definitely find myself in the middle of this debate as far as where I stand.  Trying to admit the Ukraine into NATO was and continues to be stupid.  And Zelensky has terrible bed fellows - Soros, Zuckerberg, Crack head Biden, dementia Biden, the Clintons, LINDA Graham, Johnny the chicken hawk Bolton,  ect.....  I hate what the Russians are doing but I hate globalists at least as much.  I just wish these johnny come lately who are NOW anti-Putin were so 20 years ago when he was thieving and corrupting his country.  But they didn't give a crap that Putin was awarding his Oligarchs and screwing over countries he made previous promises to.  I lost a bit of money on Paan American Silver because Putin pulled the rug from under them.  THAT is personal.  It cost me money.

If you want to know what an actual totalitarian state is like:

Stalin was giving a speech in a theatre. In the middle of his speech, somebody sneezed. Stalin paused..."Who sneezed?"

Nobody said a word. He had the first row taken out and he resumed speaking until the clatter of machine guns could be heard.

    Stalin paused again..."Who sneezed?"

Dead silence. The second row was taken out and shot.

The same happened to the third row when nobody fessed up.

Stalin paused, leaned over the podium and asked, "For the final time, who sneezed?"

A man in the fifth row and tearfully replied, "It was I, Comrade Stalin."

Stalin nodded and relied, "Guzuntite," and continued with his speech.

My point is that what would have occured if someone tossed gravel at Stalin?

You people who bang on about dictatorship and totalitarinism don't have a clue. You are living in one of the best countries in the world. Try living in Florida where the schools are censered by the Governor or other states where women's rights to reproductive choice have been strped away. Look at states where a teacher can prosecuted for teaching evolution.

You are whining because you have to wear a damn mask and get a vaccine.

Not wanting their kids to be propagandized is not a bad thing.  The fact YOU want to brain wash our children send out red flags.  Canada is one of the worst countries in the world and getting worse.  The fact you think Canada is free is laughable

This war may be a big win for the western world if China doesn't do something soon to prove that they're really on Russia's side in this.

Right now China is seen as being quite adversarial to the west, and there's all kinds of talk about bringing critical industries back to NA, or at least anywhere but China.

If this war becomes a wedge between Russia and China then both countries are basically without friends, unless you count places like Iran and NoKo.

yeah, there may be a populist revulsion against China, but the people in charge are still on their Payroll.  The USA is basically a fiefdom of China with all its players in Congress winning with keeping status quo in China. The Bidens make way too much cashola to turn against China.  And the LPC is a client agency of the Chi Coms.

it honestly feels like a long night is ending here

first with the Truckers rising up against tyranny at home

then with Canadians uniting against the Kremlin on behalf of Ukraine

Canadian pride is being restored, this is more like the Canada I was raised in

    Ducimus

Boy are you ever an optimist.  Nope. This is the same Canada still - peopled by Bolshevists and bleeding heart liberals.

Are you out of your mind? Russian are bombarding defenseless Ukrainians every day killing many including women and children and have entered the territory with hundreds of thousands of troops, tanks and armored vehicles and you say this is not an invasion because most Ukrainians can communicate in Russian!!!!!!!!.

It seems that is true. I'm never comfortable when the entire world is on the same page about something.  Especially in these fractured times.  Sounding more like Russia is like the Germans in WWI.  Mass atrocities on its target the Ukraine.

  11. I can't believe I am going to take the globalist position on this but Putin is no saint.  Just like Merkel was former Stasi, Putin is former KGB.  He dreams of a renewed Soviet Union.  And I believe his embrace of religion is just another way for him to have appeal to the masses.  He is no more Christian than Hillary is not a 3 time murderess.

Oh cut the crap. That makes as much sense as asking you for hard evidence his obvious seat of the pants estimate is incorrect.

85% doesn't have to be 100% accurate to paint the picture of his opinion. You know it's an opinion. You just want to be all smarmy and smug and posture as superior. You'd be surprised how many of us know that. I'll say 85%. But no I don't have any peer reviewed literature determining that. Why don't you pretend it matters so we can have a laugh.

And yes, there is a narrative. It's existence is well established.

Anybody with a functioning BS detector knows there's a narrative. It's all the time ringing like crazy. Registering at 85% on mine, if you're interested.

Trust in the media and its narratives is at an all time low. I can give you surveys on that if you want.

The left often get riled up over what is obvious hyperbole.

1....So what I've been very vocal about terrorist scumbags in the past, i had some real anger issues back then....today it does not mean I'm going to kill anyone, are we going to be best friends probable not, I've changed becasue it was nessicary, that and against the law here in Canada....Even if there was a vote, do you really think the majority is going to really vote these carved in stone points...not really... and if gay people think that they have swallowed the liberals talking points...

2.... Thats right but nobody really cares about them guys anyways... Canada starts and stops at Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. nothing else matters.. And thats right i did say that, The liberal voter and myself have nothing in common, other than we are Canadians , love beer and hockey, maybe poutine, maple syrup and pancakes, and beaver tails, meat pies, and dirty girls...politically nothing, moral values not very many....But that is my opinion, not every ones...

3.... And your right convincing me does not matter.... Again your not reading what i have posted, I DID NOT vote last year becasue of flip flopper not meeting my expectations....But your 100 % right never have or will vote for a liberal, NDPer, I'll leave off Green party becasue no one really votes for them any way except those in prison or on mushrooms...

4...You can do what ever it is you want, for me i will not support someone who's moral values do not line up with mine, I don't trust anything he says becasue he has deceived and lied so often I'm not sure when he is telling the truth or not...He has done the same thing to other worlds leaders...he can not make a decision on anything of real value.

So let me be clear... after 8 years of Justin in power and you are going to continue to support him then you must have the same moral convictions as he does... or good moral values don't matter to you...In that case vote for what ever tickles your banana boat...it does not effect me one way or another...Thats not stupid that is having some principles.. they use to count back in the day... Again , and again, I've said vote for whom ever you want... i don't care...and if the Conservatives don't get elected then yes they got what they deserved as well...and in 4 years time we will all be back on here doing the same thing...whining about Justin...and not being able to figure out what is wrong with this country...either way I'm good, retired, got way more money than i really need, house is paid off...

You are in a good place then.  I can no longer post on Facebook at the wife's insistence.  If we were retired I wouldn't give a rats ass whom I offended on Facebook. What can they do to me then?  But we all know about cancel culture and the vindictiveness of the left.  Actually and this is no joke, the future probably will bring cancel culture to new heights.  Imagine in North America getting your social security or Canada Pension Plan put on hold because you express unpopular views.  One doesn't have to be too paranoid to envision that.  There was even a poster here once who I think would fully support that - believing one should be punished for bad opinions.

    Hi Faramir,

    >  The British were wrong to think they could put Germany down a notch.

I am not sure what yo mean. Could you expand on it.

It is a rejection of the current narrative taught in the West that Germany and Austria were the villains in WWI.  The British didn't like that Germany was set to rival their own navy, so were itching for war against the Kaiser.  They thought it would be quick.

Oil prices are dropping back down because the market, without fail, overreacts to the news (whether good or bad).  The skyrocketing oil prices were an overreaction and based on worst-case scenarios and there being no way to find relief.

Right meaning the whole theory pimped by Wall Street hacks that the stock markets are efficient is a load of bunk.   I agree the market is over reacting, just like it over reacts and gives Netflix a PE ration of 200.

First off, Pierre Poilievre has been vocally against abortion and gay marriage in the past.  That he's apparently changed his mind on these issues is noted, but then he also says he'd allow free votes on these issues from his caucus.  That's not good enough.  Allowing what effectively represents a challenge on these fundamental rights is enough to scare off gay people and plenty of women, regardless of how likely they are to succeed.  Don't take my word for it though.  Ask some gay people how they feel.

Is that why Alberta has been a wasteland for the Liberals since Pierre TRudeau?

That's because you view them as "completely opposite" (your words, not mine).

Convincing you is irrelevant.  You're going to vote Conservative no matter who the leader is, and from the sounds of it you've never voted anything else.  What matters is how the undecided voter feels, and too bad so sorry, those undecided voters are centrists and they're not going to be impressed with Preston Manning 2.0.

Believe it or not, you can disapprove of Justin and still vote for him if you think the alternative is worse. You're right that you can't fix stupid, so if the CPC thinks that picking a controversial, divisive and inflammatory leader is the best way to build bridges to the centre, you're absolutely right.  They'll be getting what they deserve.

MPs voting their conscience and not wanting to murder babies is a bad thing?
