It was interesting to note that after the 2008 credit crises the price of a barrel of oil went from $133.88 to $39.09 in just a less than a year. (U.S. Energy Information Administration. "Petroleum & Other Liquids-Cushing, OK WTI Spot Price FOB-Dollars Per Barrel)
This merely reflected the dearth of speculative capital at this time.
If Justine and the national leadership of other countries really cared, they would put a heavy tax on speculative capital.
BTW are any of your children able to afford a starter home which will cost $500K?
This is the result of oligopolies and their ownership of all the land surrounding our cities. Does Justine or our political leadership take on these elites? No. They raise taxes, oops borrow money to subsidize housing. The absurdity here is palpable, but it's instructive in that we see a left leaning poseur refuse to take on economic elites.
If you want cheaper housing, oil etc and stop the 1% from treating countries like cash cows, then put a heavy tax on speculative capital.
