If Kuwait had attacked Iraq, I'd say let the Iraqis have whatever they gained. No question. It's a totally different situation in Israel. The Euros and the UN have taken the Arab side and expect Israel to comply with their demands that Israel give every gain back, just because. Think this through carefully. I'm not happy with the American response to the NAFTA ruling. I think we should look at tarriffs and even cutting back on resource sharing to get our point across. But shutting off the power in the middle of a heat wave would have at least some of the hotter heads in Congress calling it an act of war, and there would be a lot of pressure to scrap free trade altogether. Like it or not, our economy is highly dependent on our participation in the American market. Dismantling NAFTA and FTA are always an option, provided they're done over a period of years. A unilateral pullout by the US would kill us.

Particularly in a thread where we're discussing the "occupation" of lands that Israel took from those who perpetrated the war. The Arabs attacked the Jews. The Jews defended themselves and gained ground. Why should Arab risk and loss be removed from the equation?

As usual, you ignore the bigger picture of the situation. Banning guns will only take guns away from people who own them legally and handle them responsibly. It will do NOTHING to prevent criminals from having guns. Guns and gunpowder are easy to manufacture, easier than methamphetamine because the materials and the know-how are already everywhere. Driving the gun culture underground won't do a thing to end gun violence.

Sorry, but Israel is a sovereign state no matter what it's origins. Deal with it.

Black Dog: What a piece of crap that article was. You'd think a major media outlet like the WaPo would have learned by now not to trust anonymous sources. All of the quotes that back up the writers' conclusions are from unnamed and unverifiable sources, other than White (who presumably is paid to play down any progress).

President Bush has already met with her, last year. She's demanding another meeting to she can have him "answer" her questions, which of course he's already answered many times. Unfortunately, for people like Sheehan and her supporters (the anti-war left) an answer isn't an answer until they hear what they want to hear. There's a lot of that going around these days.

The ENTIRE problem is precisely that she is a figurehead. If this blows up in PMPM's face it will accomplish two things: First and foremost, it will be as funny as hell, and in a nation full of comedians that's an important consideration. Secondly, it will get people thinking about and talking about how ridiculous it is to have our governments' bills signed into laws by unaccountable political appointees instead of elected officials.

I don't recall hearing that Canada gained ground in 1812, much less that we occupied part of present day America post 1812, experienced decades of worldwide condemnation and later withdrew. But you're the history expert.
