Justin Trudeau the Worst PM Since Pierre Trudeau?
andromeda replied to bush_cheney2004's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
the way things are going in canada and ontario, we'd better hope for no more recessions and certainly no big interest rate hikes. if trudeau had been in office during the last recession instead of harper, our debt might be a trillion plus by now. -
Justin Trudeau the Worst PM Since Pierre Trudeau?
andromeda replied to bush_cheney2004's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I came across this today on a website I enjoy and often frequent..... "One of the primary characteristics of narcissists is their exaggerated sense of entitlement. It's hardly surprising then that so many politicians somehow think they deserve to game the system. After all, from their self-interested perspective, isn't that what the system is for? In their heavily self-biased opinion, if they want something, by rights it should be theirs. So, nothing if not opportunistic, they take from the public and private coffers alike whatever they think they can get away with. And given their grandiose sense of self, they're inclined to believe they can get away with most anything." Leon F Seltzer *** the quote was aimed specifically at trump but could be equally applied to JT. and perhaps a few others. -
Canada - a wholly owned province of China
andromeda replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
it's amazing how cheaply Canadian politicians can be bought off by way of 3rd party political donations, free trips, cash for access political fundraisers, or 'gifts' to the trudeau foundation. it's not going to stop because it's a 'winning formula' for the liberals. but how much damage is it going to do to our economy and sovereignty? -
i'm a conservative who agrees with the $15 minimum wage. but if wynne is that concerned about minimum wage workers .... what's stopping her from implementing it right now? or is it just another crass attempt by a government that's down in the polls, short on ideas, and will do anything to hold on to power for another term?

Monsef said she wanted to keep Iran trip 'hush-hush'
andromeda replied to PIK's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
i'm not uptight over anything. I just think that laws which apply to ordinary Canadians or would be Canadians should apply to cabinet ministers as well. -

does it serve monsef well, the government, or the people of Canada ...... with her operating as minister with a big black cloud hanging over her head? -

andromeda replied to PIK's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
monsef is under investigation for possible citizenship fraud which puts into question her eligibility to serve as cabinet minister as well as a sitting mp. the nature of the investigation demands she at least step down as minister seeing that it's an office of higher trust. in my opinion this would be the appropriate thing to do. -

that should be the way things are done in an open democratic society. but it appears that special privilege is being granted to certain members of parliament based on ethnic, aboriginal, (or maybe even gender), status. is that really what we want? -
if we want infrastructure let's start with a few pipelines. and it won't cost taxpayers nothing.

Truddeau dresses as Arab for Halloween
andromeda replied to Rue's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
is this not cultural appropriation? what kind of an example is he setting for all the other trick or treaters? -
premier wynne says that 'men only' Ontario college campuses in Saudi arabia are UNACCEPTABLE because they discriminate against women. if it's wrong for us to go to Saudi arabia and respect their discriminatory customs .... then why is it not wrong here? probably because it gains votes.
-
I could understand if he was invited into a mosque in Saudi arabia. but this is Canada. why should anyone feel the need to respect the customs of others when it involves the discrimination of Canadians in Canada? maybe he should have ignored it. what did it accomplish?

equality rights versus freedom of religion. I support the opinion that secular rights always trump religious freedoms. however, the charter somewhat disagrees in section 27 with ..... 'the charter shall be interpreted in a manner consistent with the preservation and enhancement of the multicultural heritage of Canadians.' but the charter doesn't prevent churches, mosques, or synagogues who discriminate from having their charitable status taken away from them. I would think that a prime minister who labels himself as a 'feminist' and who is teaching his children to become feminists would not be caught dead in a religious institution that discriminates against women. after all this is 2016 you know.

Liberals Finally Appoint New Judges
andromeda replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
let's say you had 100 lawyers. 95 of them had their names beginning with the letter M while the other 5 had their names beginning with the letter T. when promotion time came along...... the group of 5 received most of the promotions. mathematically this would not suggest that the promotions were based on merit but far more likely on identity. I am eagerly awaiting the moment that JT will offer to step down and hand over the liberal leadership to a woman or some representative of a visible minority group. what's good for the goose is good for the gander is it not? -
Ontario announces plan to destroy its economy
andromeda replied to Argus's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
what's amazing about the poll is that 30% of Ontario voters would still cast their ballots for a continuance of incompetence and corruption. brown is sitting in the driver's seat and I wouldn't count on him doing anything stupid. his numbers can only keep going up as the liberals self destruct. -

not filling out the census could send you to jail. maybe wynn and other key members of her government should be sent to jail for refusing to provide information to government appointed watchdogs. where is the openness and transparency in all of this? -

wynne claims Ontario won't ban natural gas for home heating but goes on to say that $100 million will be spent on renewable natural gas technology. natural gas is a fossil fuel while 'renewable natural gas' is a biogas. renewable natural gas can be pumped through the same pipelines as natural gas and can also be liquefied. but the two are not the same. this may have merit but switching from natural gas to renewable natural gas will increase hydro costs. pay close attention to the wording being used. -
electoral reform done unilaterally (even under the 'we will consult' promise) may set a precedent we will live to regret. left or right leaning coalition governments with a majority could change the way we vote at will. it may change with every new government that is put into power to skew the next election in its favour. is that really what we want? is this what some call 'democracy'? I can live with the results of a fairly worded referendum. nothing less.
-
outside of provincial referendums... I believe that was the Charlottetown accord.
-
a referendum will pretty much guarantee the media will be full of information and commentary. we can't do anything more for those who refuse to get 'educated'. or what else did you have in mind?

Ontario Liberals Corruption Laid Bare
andromeda replied to Argus's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
$22 million handed out as 'grants' to teacher's unions in 2006 with no accountability? nice. and why are the liberals paying the teacher's unions contract negotiating costs when they're paying it to nobody else? do teachers not make enough money to make good for the negotiating costs by their unions? if anyone has ever wondered why Ontario is $300 billion in debt..... there's part of the reason. -
PM IN HOT WATER; The Prime Minister apologizes.

i'm going to actually give credit to trudeau for rushing over to help brown. besides the sacred boob violation... what's the big deal? -
Ontario announces plan to destroy its economy
andromeda replied to Argus's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
my interpretation is based on what the liberals have done in the past for those incapable of paying their hydro bills. it is also based on an auditor general report regarding electrical generation in Ontario. it alleges there has been poor planning, neglect of maintenance being done on existing infrastructure, failure to listen to expert advice, questionable procurement processes on how contracts were awarded, and a total disregard for consumer's escalating hydro bills. what is your sunny disposition that the liberals might finally do something right based on? -

andromeda replied to Argus's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
ha ha ha ha ha. the subsidy will work something like this...... if you have 7 people living together with a combined income of less than $30,000 (and a one eyed cat) you may be eligible for some kind of hydro rate relief. government doesn't subsidize anyone. it will be mainly hydro consumers who fall out of that threshold who will be subsidizing lower income hydro consumers by paying even higher rates. -

if Patrick brown and the conservatives handle this the right way they can end up with a big majority come election time. the liberal party has become old and has morally and intellectually exhausted itself. it can no longer count on the big public service unions for support. this business about climate change and that only they can save the world from self destruction is all they've got. all the conservatives have to do is come up with a better plan. a more sensible and fiscally responsible plan. as for you far right leaning conservatives ..... you have to come on side with this. that is if you really really want to win a majority government in the province of Ontario. come up with a sensible plan for dealing with climate change and dealing with environmental issues and keep on hammering about the liberal scandals and fiscal mismanagement. some might feel that brown is a little too far left for their liking, but if you really want to win and bring back some sense to this province then he's the guy we need.
