All this complaining about our federal government. And who has been in power all this time. Of course it those good old right wing corporate parties, the Liberals and the Conservatives. I'm going to give the New Democrats my vote this time, as they certainly can't do any worse, and they may do a lot better. _______________________ Exactly. With Liberals we get more corporate tax cuts. With Conservatives we will end up being essentially a part of America. NDP has never seen those seats of power yet and they sure couldnt do worse. We all know they would do good in their first term to prove they can. Owl

Several politicians were also on hand, but Conservative Leader Stephen Harper, who is visiting the Toronto area, did not attend the festivities. _________________ A good thing too. Those gays have a hard enough time with associating with the likes of Harper. Owl

The poll is hardly scientific. _________________ It asks our view and we gave our view, just like any poll doess. So what you are saying is that all polls are crap. I agree with you. But I still think gays should have every right heteros have, including marraige rites. Owl

Nope!!!! Like any small step Government takes with the peoples blessing, that step eventually becomes a stairway, step by step/ Private care would eventually get "some" funding , which would take bucks from medicare. Eventually the funding would be fifty fifty and medicare would be left in the dust. Look at education. Catholic full funding now which took funds from Public education so that it is no longer sustainible, yet Catholics are still allowed in public schools while we cannot attend theirs. Catholic Schools are a , or should be, concidered private/sectorial, and funded by Catholics. Any system other then the Public system should be self supporting or die out. Private Health Care should be self supporting by law, with insurances put in place that makes any public funding illegal forever, then and only then should it be allowed. Medicare is tough enough to maintain without trying , down the road, to cut funds to pay private care. Sir Chauncy

Make up of an elected senate
Sir Chauncy replied to stubblejumper's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Each province gets 5 senators. Each terrotory gets 2. Total 56 _______________________ Why only two for territories??? Equal voice is what everyone screams for, for fairness, yet while screaming that they try limiting certain areas to little or no voice. To be fair and equal every area needs equal voice. Why should tiny PEI have five while other areas have three. Equal voice is what a new senate is supposed to represent, supposedly. We have too many politicians now in my view. There should be ten MPs from each area of Canada to make a smaller, equal voiced Government. The Senate should have three to five from each area. Smaller, equal, far fewer feeding from the trough, yet equal. All most in Ottawa do now is sit and do nothing, or waste time discussing trivial garbage. With a smaller, streamlined Government their would be fewer time wasters, and more time to discuss reall issues to accomplish more of what they are actually elected to do. Sir Chauncy -
It is not personal wealth though that Castro has. He has that wealth as leader, in escro. When he dies the next leader will have his wealth as leader and it passes to the next leader, etc. Unlike Presidents in Washington, Castro actually cares about his country and people. Sir Chauncy

Most arguments in other sites seem religious and also that it bothers some homophobes. I ask them why two gays getting married is a threat to them, if it lessens their own marraige. Religion "SHOULD" have nothing to do with it. Someone elses religion is exactly that, "their" religion, and it holds no controls over me. If religious beliefs deny gay marraige in your faith then they need not allow it, but a legal cerimony by a Government appointed person should be as legal and binding as your religious cerimony and the added feature is that it affects you Christiens marraiges , not one iota. If it bothers your sensibilities then that is your problem. Equal rights shouldnt be decided on what bothers your sensitivities, but on equality, period. Sir Chauncy

US demand - hand over your passenger list
Sir Chauncy replied to RB's topic in Canada / United States Relations
I think actually private proerty owners do own the airspace above their property right out to the edge of space, they just aren't allowed to do anything about it without following FAA or Transport Canada regulations. ___________________ I believe landowners own thirty feet of air over their land but must allow certain things access, like hydro wires, oil lines etc. Any lawyers in here could likely answer that though. Selling Harper? Thanks But No Thanks
Sir Chauncy replied to THELIBERAL's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I think Paul Martin has also had success despite his public persona, not because of it. _________________________ People were hearing about the theft and still voted Martin in. That should tell all that needs telling about Harpers chances in Central Canada, about the misstrust we hold for him. It also says heaps about Canadians limited view on partys of choice and how badly they ignore "other" choices like the NDP. Only one real choice existed during the election, to re-elect the known crooks. That is a sad sad commentary about our country. Owl -

Sir Chauncy replied to THELIBERAL's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Have you been watching Gomery? Yet still the Libs top the polls. Explain that to me. Obviously Canadians would rather elect a theif than an honest politician. _________________ If you are comparing Libs to Harper the Harper image is that of a Bush/Washington azz kisser. We centrists and I suspect the East Coast dont trust Harper nor Conservatives under him to protect Canadas future against American takeover. If he were elected as PM I would be sore afraid that Canada simply wouldnt exist as a soverign Country much longer. He would "give" everything away to American interests. I may be wrong, but I sure dont intend to cast a vote for him to find out the hard way I am not wrong. Liberals are crooks, yes, but better the crook then the sellout. At least under the crooks we still have a country. Canada needs political reforms badly, and a system inplaced to force honesty in politics. Owl -
Selling Harper? Thanks But No Thanks
Sir Chauncy replied to THELIBERAL's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
If Western Canada wants more voice through the Conservative party in Ottawa they need a leader for the party Ontario will embrace. Ontario has embraced Westerners before, re: Diefenbaker and Clark. Dief has always been my favorite PM. Instead of whining about things, common sense should dictate that any leader not accepted by Central Canada should be dumped until one is found we will accept and are willing to vote for. Harper nor Day sure are/were not that person. Instead of loyalty to one man, try loyalty to your political needs and be willing to "fire" those in power who dont suit them, like Harper. He is unable to gain that power in Ottawa so get a new leader, period. In racing you dont keep running a horse who loses continually. You try another horse. Owl -
Selling Harper? Thanks But No Thanks
Sir Chauncy replied to THELIBERAL's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Reform was slowly making progress in Ontario under their original leader and party former. Then they dropped him like a hot potatoe and put that moron Day in his place. That killed them in Ontario. Harper isnt much better then Day was so Ontario gains are limited under him. Any party needs to get a goodly number of Ontario seats if they want the power in Canada. That isnt bragging, it is common sense of population. They wont gain those seats with Harper, period. Changing the party name every couple of years simply shows how simple minded the elite of the party is in thinking that idiotic move will gain them votes,as if people forget overnight. Now they swallowed up the old PC party and become one as Conservative party, but with that no sell Harper as leader. Too much religion in the party that frightens people off here. They need a strong, non religious leader who can show he cares about National issues, issues affecting everyone. They cannot continue to be a Western party and hope the central and East simply votes them in because we want change. We do want change, but change that we trust, that is good for all of us and not just the West. That party does not give us that feeling and probably their leaders have no idea how to do that. Too bad really, because I used to like the original party. I sat in on their first meetings when they were trying to form in Ontario from the west and I supported them big time back then. But their first leader was their greatest asset then. They threw their best asset out, and that made me and lots of others her misstrust them completely after that. Sir Chauncy -
Belinda: hussy harlot or Smart Sister?
Sir Chauncy replied to mona's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Stroach played for publicity and got exactly that. She knew the Conservatives were dead under Haqrper and played the floor crossing game to get her name better known for future aspirations. I think she is good looking, in fact rather hot, but she has little else going for her yet except her name, and that gets better known every day now. If she plays her cards right then in a few years with experience under her belt I can see her heading a party, and running for PM. My favorite female politician was Flora McDonald. Loved that lady until; she lost her leadership bid to Joe (whats his name) Clark and ended up just another "yes" girl in Ottawa. I think she would have made a great PM. She certainly did lots to boost women in politics and undo the harm Judy LaMarsh did. Stronach has a bright future if she "THINKS" before opening her mouth, and so far she appears to be doing just that. She obviously has good handlers. Sir Chauncy -
I was PC for fourty years till Mulroony sickened me of them. I voted Liberal once for Chretien, and will never vote Liberal again. The new/old Reform/ Alliance/Conservative joined party of Conservatives is just a bunch of crazies in my view and I will never vote them. I was Reform from their beginnings here in Ontario and even through Stockboy Day. But Harper is just too much. I wouldn't trust that man with my laundry let alone my country. So I have NDP left to vote and I guess that is where my vote will go. And in all honesty I like their leader. Sir Chauncy

In Colleges and Universities the teachers tend to "teach" their own political views more them the wide spectrum. They do not like students who speak up and argue their points. But Students todays are supposed to be more educated and wiser then we old goats. Hahahaha They should be able to discern their own truths while keeping quiet and simply get through school. The only way Canada wont become infested, or infected, with that damn system is if Canadians enmasse scream at Ottawa , loud and clear, and consistently, to stay to he77 out of the waste of money thing. Sir Chauncy

I find it amazing that Canadas "system" was inplaced years ago with very few taxes collected unlike today. Highways were built and maintained without going in debt , yet today they cant even be kept in repair without huge debts being added to our already huge one. Everything we have in Canada was done, put in place back then and no debt incured by it. That all changed under Trudeau and yearly debts became normal and getting bigger by the year with less and less to show for that debt. Too many are lining their pockets today and outright theft is blatent today. A billion dolaars simply lost a very few years ago. Remember that, money simply lost. Accountability needs to be inplaced at every level of Governments in Canada, with real chages and punishment being meted out like it would be for any crook. There is no reason our health system should be in the mess it is, nor the educational system. Get rid of those pocket liners and perhaps the greedy unions and start getting back to realistic work ethics again. Sir Chauncy

The whole affair was a waste of tax dollars as nothing, or little will come of it as usual when Government is involved. Unless a real court triall comes about and some politicians see prison, then why bother with shows like this. Real strong toothed accountability needs to come into politics in Canada. In fact, in every country. Chretien and Martin are both as guilty as sin and every honest person knows it. But as usual, they will walk, at best a small slap on their wrists. Sir Chauncy

A better question is, "why do trans Canada" flights fly over American air space anyway. Sir Chauncy -
Sincemost Canadians are fed up with the two big parties , why is it that the NDP are still ignored as a real Alternative Choice for a Government. I cannot figure out the Canadian mindset lately if they are truely fed up as they say, yet still ignore the only real alternative. Guess I really want explanaitions on why you each think that your vote still needs to go Con or Liberal, both proven unfit to lead anymore, and not to the untried NDP. Especially the West where many NDP Provincial Governments have been elected over the years yet still the Federal NDPs are ignored. WHY??? Sir Chauncy

I post to learn. I have been known to post some pretty "off the wall" crap elsewhere. Besides the derision it often gets, it often draws response as well and that real response usually garners information at some point I was unaware of before. Do I upset people??? YES, often on purpose, to illicit responses. Sometimes in anger as well admittedly, but usually with the goal of getting something started in real postings or to shut up some spamming idiot. You would take us a step further from democracy by having the PM chosen by a great mass of people who have no idea at all about the candidates. You would have us adopt a system where the top positions are bought and sold: where power goes to those who can get the backing of the most powerful. There is no sensible argument for the election of Senate; Judiciary, or Prime Minister. _________________ What, you dont concider the masses voting a PM into power is democratic. I fail to see what is undemocratic about that. We need a two vote system in Canada, one for our local rep and another for who we think is best PM material. Far too oftem my vote has be changed away from a local rep because I disliked the potential PM that would come about by voting that rep, and vice versa. There is no logical reason that says the PM must be part of the party holding the majority of seats. Anyone could be PM, but they would need to work with all paties to get what they wanted if they are not part of the ruling elite party of the day. As for the Senate, that house of senile half dead, comatose elders, it desperately needs changing or abolishing. It should be an elected position and equal representation should be it's future. Those patronage seats where oldsters sleep all day or never show up yet collect huge dollars should be done away with. The rulling party appointing Senators and gaining the senate vote needs to be done away with. The senate though,"could" present that safety measure against any Government bent on self interests if it were an elected position. Sir Chauncy

Was always UEL for over half a century. If Charles becomes King and that ugly cow he married becomes queen I would quit being UEL so fast. He should never be King and he should not have been allowed to marry a devorcee and such an ugly one to boot. Having a monarchy is fine with me, but having a retarded idiot as King does not sit well with me at all. Diana's son should take the throne when Elizabeth steps down or dies. Sir Chauncy
