  1. Feel free to contribute anything to the discussion and I am not here to defend anything I will give you the truth to the best of my ability.
  2. They are at home raising their children. Hunting and fishing to eat. Trapping to pay the bills. Repairing their homes/vehicles and trying very hard to do something, anything to ensure their survival. If they miss a chance their kids will starve. Unaware of whats happening in the world. Our only source of communication is the radio and it used to be TV when we would get a signal but that changed a few years ago. Now it's just radio.
  3. Im not really sure how that whole process works at all.
  4. The money orgy all our band offices are currently engaged in lol. *Money fight!*.
  5. They just picked a new chief of chiefs down the street here in Winnipeg LMFAO. The next event on the list in the conference was about missing aboriginal woman. I'd say a good 85% of the crowd was gone. These are the people we have all elected that occupied most of that conference. Now tell me what all these people really care about. If they were really stressed over aboriginal issues and actually wanted to contribute I am quite positive they would have quieted down and let the next event begin. Amazingly quite sad if you ask me.
  6. In my reserve and most I know the reserve members are appointed by election and the ballots are made, also mail in ballots, and count are done and made under the supervision of the public. There might be a little bit of weird stuff happening with the main ins because I never seen them. I don't feel sorry for whats happening to my people everyone knows but were used to being the underdog. I feel sorry for my children though who are going to learn these truths. I would happily quit my band and transfer to a more proactive first nations community who is setting positive examples for the dummies ruining it. People who speak up will always come under fire all governments have a plan and it's important that we be made aware of all change.
  7. I deal with a variety of first nations people daily from many different reservations throughout the prairies and west coast. Though they may not admit it or even know themselves to that extend but the mindset is accurate. There are many homely first nations people who have a degraded sense of self worth they don't realize their potential. Most elders who have lived an entire life of poverty have come to this conclusion eventually and accept it as inevitable. These are they people who will be ushering the nest generation of first nations people. I would just like all information to be available to all first nations people if they decide they want to take the step. Not more money, there's enough money in the reserves to pave the damned streets gold. It never happened yet. Plato did say that we should adopt a system that absolutely allows for change he advised against adopting a system that boxes ideas and this is just one side effect of that. Another PR ballet. "Marijuana is bad for you!!!" - Harper Government. It's such a hollow dry path these things. It's getting incredibly old. Something does have to be done but for now we will do what we do best and wait till the federal government and the bands reach an impasse that does actually physically assist the first nations people. I would like to see an online guide for all first nations people to see regarding their band and what funding, how much was given for what purpose. That ought to create some tension to pressure the first nations people of every reserve to pressure their bands and explode out of the poverty and into the world... I can dream but this seems like a more reliable approach. I think we all should be made aware of those types of things. Funny I literally just made that up.
  8. Does anyone have any pictures to post of anything relating to first nations type of crafts, clothing, beading and related stuff? Im also interested in the process of making furs and hides if you'd like to share your own experiences.Thank you for your time
  9. NATIVE OMBUDSMAN! I like it!!! His office would be super duper busy lol
  10. Because we are gullible. Im not really sure what got us into that movement. Our bands didn't buy us KFC or anything they just treated us like a dog after shooting a quail "Go get it!!!" once billc 45 went into effect. Im not sure why the entirety of canada did not protest that bill... Had that bill passed canada would have been ripped apart by the oil companies.
  11. It's nice but it's very rare I have only worked at two tax free companies in my whole life. There aren't many jobs on a reserve. We have two stores who employ their family and that does seem ethical because those business' are privately owned and operated. The rest of the work is for the band.
  12. It's only the treaty but that will change too. The intent was to assist us, educate us but what both sides should have realized is the ride wasn't meant to last forever. I honestly don't know what can be done about it all.
  13. Unfortunately they are taught by the people who raise them and the governments are taught by the people before them. Im not surprised anymore when I ask most of my friends or family why they dont just leave "This is all I know, Im not smart enough to be out there". This was poundmakers intent when he negotiated his treaty and he was believed to be a prophet as well. "The 7th generation will be free" we can mull over the meanings of this prophecy by I believe that the treaties will dissolve and the ride will be over. I think both side's have given eachother enough reason to not allow a buyout or phase option but both must feel the burn if such a phase option was ever initiated. There are many things I would like to have in exchange for my treaty rights.
  14. It's a delicate matter. It can be solved but one would have to study the problem and have people to agree on a solution.
  15. It would be nice if the men did stand up against corruption. I'm not for reform but I do understand that a lot of that money should be aimed at helping us but a lot of Indians forgot that and just sit at home doing nothing because they don't know any better they are taught by their parents and role models growing up.
  16. When I wrote this I heard about some chief election a few blocks over at the convention Centre here in Winnipeg. Aboriginal students and elders get in free otherwise it's 300$ per person for the day. That just pissed me off so much. All these indian leaders flying to cities when back home there are decrepit disgusting houses everywhere and people who aspire for more unable to realize their potential because Johnny sevenbears (just a made up name any relation to anyone living is purely incidental) decides him and his council should all get new trucks. Unable to learn the basic skills on how and why it is important to keep their homes and selves clean. Unable to mature attitude wise. Completely stuck in a state of paralysis. These people down the street have some nerve. I am very disgusted with my leaders. I am not alone there are a lot like me. I don't blame our leaders only there are many variables to consider. Perhaps time and this pressure is going to pay off. It would be nice to be informed. I can only change myself for the better thou.
  17. That is very true. I've never heard of them. I heard of a few bands here and there who have taken a more responsible approach and I'd happily transfer there if it meant I could go back to school and graduate properly instead of praying for an oil job....
  18. Sorry Pal, our schools are crap too :-/ sell you my rights? I don't need them. Health coverage is melting away also.

Gimme some truth...all I want is the truth.

  20. What led to the predicament of the bands and reservations? Regarding all first nations and the federal government? Seems like a taboo topic to discuss outside the political organizations involved. Being a first nations man with no career, no job, no money barely scraping by always trying to find work. I'm really willing to flip burgers at this point. In my reserve there is absolutely no hope unless one of your family members get in. Assuming their best interests have you involved. Meanwhile, the chief, council, administrators and band staff spend at least 60,000$ a month travelling to a city once a month, pay for their rooms and write themselves a big fat cheque for "travel". I care to the extent that my band receives a lot of money to make sure I am educated and employed. Yet I am not. I am not interested in right or wrong a I am interested in your honest opinion. This IS a reality for the majority of first nations people.
  21. Fancy economics, nations relations, finely tuned laws and money are what drive the WTO. The person with the most money will only adjust slightly toward our individual preferences being mindful that the system is not built on the foundations of sustainability. Nor are our personalities geared to suite such an idea all we can do is fantasize at this point at a better world and nudge it there. I say give them their big piles of money let all those leaders play politics. When confronted with survival things change overnight. If we should begin to lose our bodies ability to take in oxygen I am sure our whole system would change overnight. I dream of a better world but there is purpose in what we are doing as we rush toward some truth that will undoubtedly hurt our children and our future. We are all headed for a great lesson with all these debates relying on our governments to change things for us when it's us who have to bear the change. Like a child giving birth the pain will be excruciating. If you could adopt a mindset that felt the pain and suffering of all your family all the way back to prehistory the world will be a different place indeed.
