This election if the polls hold true will be decided in Calgary. The ndp will likely win Edmonton, the Wildrose will likely win most of the rural slash outside Calgary and Edmonton ridings, so Calgary will decide. If ndp wins Calgary it will be an ndp majority if Wildrose wins Calgary it will be a Wildrose majority if pc keep Calgary it will be a minority government. If the ndp win there could be some more students turned politicians which I'm tired of in politics.

People spending beyond their means is worse for the Canadian economy than saving during stagnation. Spending is the not the only thing that drives the economy it's also production

I'm not saying they shouldn't disagree with the budget it has its flaws that both bases might not like, but calling it what it is not is not winning the support of the middle, the group of voters that decide elections in Canada.

I honestly don't understand what has progressives so upset about this budget, there's a decent investment into those who need extra help like the family tax credit and perks for seniors and those who are retired. Children and seniors benefit heavily from this budget and in my eyes those are the people who need the most help from the state. For most middle class families they would rather have their tax burden relieved than have more bureaucratic government agencies or services. And that's exactly what this is doing. The more the NDP and Liberals call this budget a right-wing budget the more they dig their own graves for the upcoming, this is a very centrist budget.

Good point, and during Trudeau's era we as Canadians undermined US foreign policy by working with Cuba. Now I'm not a fan of the Castro family but there are worse countries than Cuba.

Not having a government that needs to tax so frequently, an efficient government that can operate within the revenue they currently receive.

I worry about the Unions backing Trudeau, this will be an attempt to merge the centre and left wing vote into one centre-left party effectively making Canada a two party state for the first time since the early 20th century. Another possibility is even if the Conservatives win, if it's a minority the coalition threat will be immediately hanging over our heads again, and if it's a close election there's a possibility we can see a Conservative minority turned into a Coalition majority over night. That's how deep the hatred in those left of centre is. Long term for the Conservative Party I think a Liberal minority win will help, why? For one they'll only be able to win getting most of the support from the centre, but when the NDP controls most of the minorities agenda the centre will go to the next closest option, the Conservative party. The Liberal party will be forced to stay in the centre to keep the centre and the coalition threat will die after a small amount of time seeing what a NDP/Liberal coalition would look like in a Liberal minority.

Yeah I think Justin Trudeau's lack of leadership is finally catching up to him, even those on his side want him to take a position. I'm just waiting for the Liberal Party to release their election platform, because I don't even know what it will look like. I think if things like carbon taxes, higher corporate tax rates, and gas taxes are on there, but keeping the budget balanced, and tax cuts are not, they will lose most of the support they have taken from the Conservatives.

I'm a member of the Conservative Party, anyways. Even though the party may be down in the polls, although catching up now, I believe we are winning the fund raising battle. Yesterday we beat the one-day record, a record we set back in September. Now here's my question, do you think us members are scared or loyal?

I think their biggest reason for success as of late is Masai Ujiri, he is the best executive in the NBA, he showed that in Denver and he's showing that in Toronto. He has a real eye for unseen or undervalued talent, take Lou Williams, he's an elite scorer, and he was able to get him for John Salmons expiring contract because Lou was injured most of last season. The Rudy Gay trade which some people thought was the Raptors giving up, was really what brought in the key elements to make them a playoff contender. Greivis Vasquez and Patrick Patterson were the heart of their bench, and he added Lou Williams and James Johnson to make it deeper. However it's not all Masai, it's also players developing under Coach Casey, Kyle Lowry finally getting a leadership role on a team, and DeMar DeRozan proving he wasn't yet another wasted Raptors lotto pick. Also the developing of Jonas Valanciuanas is instrumental, I believe he has the potential to become a top 5 center in the NBA, he's still young. The reason why many Toronto fans are so excited about this team, is that most of the other years that Toronto was competitive they had either a lot of veteran players, or their big name stars had wanted out. Now it's different because a lot of the stars are still fairly young in the career, JV has yet to enter his prime, DeMar is just entering his prime, and Lowry and Amir are in their prime. The Toronto Raptors will be a playoff team for years to come, what many people were talking about Toronto's offseason and keeping the core together, what it really was in changing basketball culture. For many years although Toronto is a pretty big market, it hasn't been treated as such because it's the only Canadian team in the NBA, and basketball was seen as a distant third as far as Canadian's favorite sports. It still is, however with the influx of Canadian talent, mostly from the Toronto area things have changed. There was a time where there were only 4 Canadians in the NBA, now there are 16, with more coming.

I once was in favor of rep by prop but then I realized there's no way that would work, mainly due to riding's themselves. You'd either have to abolish riding's, which would beg the question who are the politicians accountable to? They'd be more accountable to their party than their constituents. Or they'd have to appoint a person who didn't win the riding as MP because they need to meet the quota based on the vote percentage, how is that democracy?

The Republicans won because they campaigned against Obama, and Democrats instead of embracing Obama and rallying their own base they hid from Obama because of his low approval ratings. I still think the Republicans would have won if they Democrats did embrace Obama but not by as big a margin, +20 Seats (House & Senate) and + 3 Governors. The reason why Obama has so low of approval rating is because his two greatest accomplishments have turned into disasters, Obamacare and ending the War in Iraq.

Yeah during the late 80's and into the late 90's those were so significant of issues it's the reason Canadian politics was so crazy, the Bloc Quebecois and the Reform Party were founded on those issues.

Yeah I believe MPs should be audited, I think all government bureaus should be audited, and also First Nations reserve chiefs. If our tax dollars are going to it, we have a right to know what it's being spent on. However currently there is no party really calling for it, maybe NDP, but they would never audit government bureaus or First Nation reserve chiefs.

However assuming the information you have is true (which i'm willing to give you the benefit of that doubt) is that a good thing. Now as far as youth drivers the positives is it could reduce traffic accidents, because youth are most at risk to be involved in an accident, and as well as less fossil fuel emissions. However a negative is the more people refuse to drive they limit their own opportunities, and it pretty much confines them to only living in urban areas, because rural areas you need a vehicle. As far as transit, for one will supply of those who run buses and transit be able to keep up with the demand. Would we need to hire more bus drivers, and train engineers, whilst people who drive are getting gauged. And once again you are talking urban issues, I live in rural Saskatchewan, buses and trains are not viable options to get to work. So in order to save the environment, we will continually increase gas prices, which only hurts people in rural areas which vehicles are more often than not the only mode of transportation. Now what's the big deal you may ask, rural areas are small, little pain. Rural areas in Saskatchewan are mostly farming towns, and more farming areas are also rural areas. Now living in cities people may think farming not an important job, but it is an important job. Farmers are the people that grow or raise most of the foods we eat. You risk alienating farmers if you continually increase gas prices.

Agreed, however i'm not arguing collectivism is wrong, it's simply an ideological viewpoint on how society should function. Collectivism is more putting society's needs above the individuals. We Day over arching goal is for youth to focus more on the power of community instead of individuals. I personally believe you need elements of both collectivism and individualism to have a well-run society.

Okay i'll admit it isn't communist, but by it's own mission statement it is collectivist.

It won't, or if so it would be minor and you would only alienate that hard working people that are reliant on fossil fuels. Working at a gas station I know that majority of our customers need fuel to get to and from work, that's why our busiest hours are normally rush hour. Not to mention the work trucks like Sask Power, Plumbers, Electricians, Construction.
