I agree 100%. If this is how government responds to ~90k displaced Canadians from a fire.....what are they going to do when we have millions displaced by the "big one" leveling metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island?
-
You don't need to phone them , you can check online.......you can even get two king size beds in most near the airport for ~$100, forget Northlands, put them up in Leduc
-
Exactly, including the Northlands center........Would Trudeau take selfies with sick people?
-
I doubt you'd suggest that the Bush administration handled Katrina well...........do some critical thinking on why Bush screwed up then, and Trudeau is screwing the pooch now......
-
Exactly, as most of the displaced people were fly-ins (who just went home), have friends/family in Alberta or are already put up in hotels by their insurance companies............the Canadians stuffed into the expo center like cattle are going to be your working poor and immigrants that lived up in Fort Mac and worked in the service industries or were unemployed.
-
And you would be wrong (and I actually checked several hotels that I've stayed at before well in transit), there are thousands of free beds in greater Edmonton, especially near the airport, where there are literally miles of no frills mega hotels, that catered to O&G workers in transit North.....now near empty with the downturn in oil.
-
Ahh but think about yourself..........would you put your kids into the basement or the back shed so a couple of homeless people or unemployed could sleep in their beds? Of course you wouldn't, neither would I. Apply that to my prior point, if we're willing as a society to accept refugees as global citizens, well treating them in what one would consider a humane manner and providing them with essentials and some measure of privacy/comfort, we should provide as a same standard that to those displaced by this natural disaster........not to a lesser extent.
-
No, as cited, after the funding formula is reached, the Feds are much so responsible........if they elect to stuff sick Canadians into a barn with old cots, I'd very much so expect it to be discussed.
-
Nothing says bad optics like people packed tightly with the flu.....
-
No, the Federal Government wasn't responsible for 25k Syrians, they elected to be..........they are very much so responsible for thousands of Canadians. I'm sure the same could have been said for Syrians........yet we stuffed them into hotels with meal allowances......unlike these Albertians.
-
Simple, to contrast the treatment of Syrians refugees with what amounts to Albertian refugees.........if we have a standard for the Syrians, one that offers a modest measure of privacy and dignity, including proper sanitary/health measures, why isn't the like afforded to Canadians that are currently head-toe in a big concrete barn, with the flu racing through the group.......we don't even treat prisoners like that. I'm disgusted..........where is Trudeau? Why isn't he visiting these people stuffed into an industrial size barn, after probably losing near everything they own, stuffed in tighter than cattle and now with the screaming shits racing through the lot? Anyone with an ounce of self respect should be embarrassed to see families with small kids stuffed into a barn like that.
-
Neither were the Syrians refugees............as far as I know, Syrians families weren't given the same treatment as those Albertains sleeping head-toe in livestock pens......
-
I don't know if there is even that many.........but one thing is for certain, the ones sleeping in essentially livestock pens aren't going to be those up in Fort Mac earning the big bucks, but the lower income folks of modest means working up there at gas stations and Timmies....
-
We wouldn't need to put up 90 thousand......most of the people from Fort Mac live elsewhere across Canada.......thousands more hold other properties or have friends and family to stay with.........but the thousands of Canadians sleeping on concrete floors on surplus cots should be put into hotels at the very least.
-
They are keeping thousands of Canadians in the expo center in Northlands.......that's concrete floors meant for cattle/RVs/Boats, not families crammed in suffering from a virus from the unsanitary conditions......and its safe to assume, these Canadians were the low income earners in Fort Mac without anywhere else to go....... There is no reason these people couldn't be put up in the modest hotels by the Edmonton airport.......it was done for Syrians, it should be done for Canadians that just lost everything in one of the biggest disasters in our nations history....
-
~$50 million is the threshold for where the Feds become (by law) on the hook for 90+% of the cost born by Government..........if you're going to parse quotes, include the cite with the actual formula I provided.......
-
No, it has everything to do with the treatment of Canadians......Trudeau would have been crucified if the Syrians were loaded end-to-end in a facility meant for cattle and boat shows, on old army cots, in unsanitary conditions that results in a virus sweeping through the evacuees.......hence my point, there is one standard for Trudeau's refugees, and one standard for the treatment of homeless Albertians.......why can't we put the Fort Mac residents up in hotels in Edmonton?
-
You would think.........according to Bloomberg, this fire will have more impact on us as a nation then Katrina had on the United States......President Bush didn't turn offers of help down during Katrina.........
-
That would be the logical conclusion................and I agree 100% on burden of proof......whats next, Trudeau golfs 18 holes in one well controlling the weather with his moods? I still wanna know why Canadians displaced by the fire aren't given the same treatment as Syrian refugees?
-
You understand load carrying capacity is finite? Did you not state Quebec's four aircraft represented more capacity then already on scene or leased by the Provincie.........you see, this is the problem with making things up, facts getting in the way, like one Electria having nearly the capacity of four of the 415s when taking off from water... It doesn't work like that......well maybe in North Korea.....when for the last week+ we've been hearing how those on the ground are overwhelmed, how only a miracle from mother nature would put the fire out, and now, according to Goodale, everything is a-ok..
-
As it moves into Saskatchewan........
-
Exactly, and doesn't explain why Trudeau is turning down international offers of assistance....other than politics.
-
You understand they load the foaming agent from an 18 wheeler tanker.......on land.....not in the middle of a lake But to return to the point, the tanker contractors Electras (not counting the rest of their fleets fighting the fire, helicopters or other contractors) carry far more water/retardant/gel then the 415s, and your claim that four Quebec 415s equaled the capacity already in Alberta is bogus........and doesn't explain why Trudeau rejected countless international offers other than political vanity.
-
Right, because the transit time to the nearest larger lake isn't worth it for the Mars......leaving the largest aircraft being Electra tankers, with three times (or more) the carriage of a waterborne 415.......And BC doesn't operate 215s....
-
And once a "boat" dumps its load its to the lake to scoop a greatly reduced load of water and hopefully not hit a deadhead......not gel, not retardant.....water.....meanwhile an Electra, Herc etc drops in one pass what your boat carries in total......
