Quebec To Create Its Own Gun Registry

Why is it funny? Mexico has far more gun control laws, yet far more gun crime......inversely, in New Zealand, the process for legally obtaining automatic firearms, silencers, short/sawed-off shotguns etc is far less restrictive then the United States, and the majority of their police aren't even armed, yet they have little to no gun crime..........likewise areas within the United States like California, Chicago or Washington DC, areas with tough gun control laws (in some cases more restrictive then even Canada), have the most gun homicides within the United States. This of course is proof that "gun control" (or "gun rights") are not a viable indication of levels of violent (gun) crimes within a geographic location......clearly violent crime is far more a result of social-economic stresses, in addition to access to mental healthcare, then access to guns or gun control laws on the books. In the near future, with the advent of the 3D-gun, which will negate gun control laws worldwide, this will be more pronounced........as such, if gun-grabbers actually want to reduce gun violence, they should use their resources to address the underlying causes of violent crime and mental health. -
Quebec To Create Its Own Gun Registry

No it didn't, as already pointed out, criminals don't register their guns.........likewise, in the late 1970s, the RCMP estimated that there upwards of 16-20 million firearms within Canada (based on domestic production, imports, surplus sales etc), but at the peak of the registry only ~7 million firearms were registered, alongside hair dryers, cordless drills, water guns, electric toothbrushes etc.........The registry was a waste of money. Likewise, no police officer called to a domestic at a crack house, with no hits on the LGR, would assume there were no weapons on site........ -

It is........Mexico has far more stringent gun laws then the United States (or Canada), yet a gun homicide rate over four times that then the United States.......... -

That too is a popular myth, up there with road raging CCW holders, for those citizens that actually lawfully carry, going through the entire process through local law enforcement to obtain a CCW permit are far less likely than regular citizens to commit crimes.......as for example the numbers show in gun friendly Texas -

I think he wanted you to provide facts that support your opinion that the long gun registry was effective at preventing gun crime......... -

In Canada, to legally purchase firearms, the process is more than a few hoops........and the long gun registry was never a hoop in the path to getting guns. -

Then, from the picture of the A320's FCU, which button(s) are pressed and/or knob(s) rotated (I've never twirled any knobs in a cockpit)? And why were you so averse to tell Argus? It's not a guarded secret......... -

I'll bite..........why won't you divulge how to deactivate the "autopilot"? Is it because you don't know how? Surely anyone interested can read this Airbus pdf, hence the info is not "Top Secret" Two toggle buttons on the A320's FCU: Having never flown a A320, but with reading Airbus notes for five minutes, its rather obvious.........so from the above FCU, which two buttons turn off the aircraft's "autopilot"? No need for the cloak and dagger........... --------- As mentioned by Argus, its rather clear that the pilot thwarted the flight control protection modes by simply complying with the aircraft's programmed flight control laws, descending the aircraft at a rapid rate (closer to 4000 fpm based on the last reported altitude and point of impact), but not so much so to engage programmed safeties ( the aircraft pitched 15 degrees or greater nose down) and setting the FCU's level off point lower than the highest mountain peaks......... Clearly further safeguards are needed, and will be brought forth..........as is said often in the United States, the FAA's safety guidelines are written in blood. -
Quebec To Create Its Own Gun Registry

Why would they? Like the United States, in Canada gun related homicides (and homicides in general) have also been dropping, with the first year after scrapping the LGR reaching a near 40 year low: So despite the demise of the LGR, Canadian streets didn't run red with the blood of shooting victims.......furthermore: This too despite restricted firearms still being registered in Canada, pre and post Long Gun registry.......but of course, most crime gun are smuggled into Canada: So the vast majority of the ~200 annual firearms related deaths in Canada are from handguns, smuggled across the border.........and some think the Province of Quebec should spend millions of dollars that they don't have on creating a long gun registry...... It would seem the logical response would be for the various levels of Government in Canada, if ~200 annual deaths are considered a major problem, to increase funding for the CBSA to combat smugglers and to policing agencies to further shutdown the black market of illegal firearms in the major cities. Not piss money away on a segment of the population (legal gun owners) that aren't the problem, through the use of tools that won't address the problem (smuggled handguns from the United States)........ -

And that relates to a proposed Quebec registry how? -

Yes, that rifles (including AR-15s) are used rarely, and gun homicides have been decreasing since the 1970s, despite an increase in firearms purchases and CCW permits nationwide. -

Homicides in the United States where a rifle (including AR-15s) is used make-up less than 5%......more Americans are killed every year with hammers and baseball bats. -

Quebec To Create Its Own Gun Registry

Nope, not per the wording of the present Firearms Act......As mentioned, the Province of Quebec can create its own registry, but Quebec gun owners, per the Firearms Act, are not required to abide by it..........with that said, when the Province is making cuts to both healthcare and education, I fail to see where they will come up with the money to waste........ None the less, the remaining (Quebec) data of the LGR is now useless. As of yesterday, per the Quebec CFO, residents of Quebec are no longer legally required to register non-restricted firearms, and can now buy & sell firearms like the rest of Canada by presenting their PAL to the seller...... -

Huh? If a criminal was able to pull a fast one on the RCMP/CFC and obtain a license, with the intention of committing a crime with their own legally purchased firearm, you think they would be concerned with "traceability"? And if they were, as already outlined, with a stop into the local Crappy Tire, they can defeat the registry, affording them the ability to leave the gun, take the cannoli...... -

I see, so if the RCMP grant a criminal or an insane person a firearms license, having his/her firearms registered (despite the already simple ways to defeat a registry) will prevent said person from committing gun related crimes? -

How does a registry prevent one from doing "abnormal stuff" with them? A logical person would see the benefit in ensuring those that might do "abnormal stuff" with their firearms don't get them in the first place.......but a registry doesn't do that. -

Oh, so why bring up the US of A and AR-15s in a topic on a poorly proposed Quebec long gun registry? And in your above example, how would a Quebec long gun registry prevent a high school student from taking his/hers AR-15 to school? -

So how does a Quebec long gun registry prevent a nut job in the US of A from blowing a hole in a high school with an AR-15? -

Head in the sand? You mean like supporting a Quebec registry, that Quebec gun owners are not required to partake in, and required criminals to buy/sell firearms that are registered to a registry that doesn't exist, furthermore a registry that can be defeated by a criminal making a trip down to Canadian Tire........Is that what you mean by head in the sand? It sounds more like one wheel in the sand to me.
