B. Max Posted May 27, 2007 Report Posted May 27, 2007 Kinda like putting a firebug in charge of the arson squad. Of course why they even let a country like that in the UN is a mystery to most of us, and why we don't get out is an even bigger mystery. http://www.kansascity.com/273/story/124393.html Quote
Figleaf Posted May 28, 2007 Report Posted May 28, 2007 ... why they even let a country like that in the UN is a mystery to most of us, and why we don't get out is an even bigger mystery. 1. The UN is supposed to be all encompassing rather than exclusive to certain types of country. The idea is to provide a forum for dialogue to resolve differences, not to simply provide an echo-chamber for any one group. 2. Zimbabwe was a member of the UN back when it was still called Rhodesia and was an aparthied-style state. Quote
betsy Posted May 28, 2007 Report Posted May 28, 2007 Why is anybody surprised about this? And to think that Canada seeks authorisation from this dysfunctional body of dictatorial lunatics for every move its makes, not just in foreign policy but also on human rights. Quote
Liam Posted May 28, 2007 Report Posted May 28, 2007 The UN Human Rights Commission has long ago conceded its own relevance. This latest item does not at all surprise me. Quote

It's beyond me why the US, Canada, Australia, Japan, UK or any civilized nation should pay into the UN any more. It doesn't help real people, period. I believe it joined UN as Zimbabwe. It's prior "independence" from Britain was not widely recognized. Quote Free speech: "You can say what you want, but I don't have to lend you my megaphone." Will the steps anyone is proposing to fight "climate change" reduce a single temperature, by a single degree, at a single location? The mantra of "world opinion" or the views of the "international community" betrays flabby and weak reasoning (link).

It doesn't help real people, period. The UN has milked us for billions and they want billions more. We sure as hell don't need the UN for anything. I had hoped Bush would have gotten rid of it in his first term, but was disappointed. Then I thought Harper would have removed us from all the loonie things that our previous governments signed onto. But he's turned out to be just the same as the rest of them. Quote
