B. Max Posted May 28, 2007 Report Posted May 28, 2007 If it makes so much sense, then a private company would have done it already. Obviously something makes this either too risky, or not a viable business concept. The company behind it said it won't be built unless the government builds it. To the tune of 1.2 billion dollars. Which is more than enough to add another lane each way between E and C. The train is extra at 400 million. I guess if it doesn't work out the company loads up their train and away they go. Which is what they'll use as a threat to blackmail the government into subsidising the tickets. Quote

So we're looking at at least 3 hours between departures from each city. So if something came up at 9:30 and I needed to be in Edmonton, I could wait until noon, and then take a train for an hour and a half... or I could Won't work. This is a massive money pit! There are positive externalities which make it worth Government involvement. Reduced traffic on Highway Two lowers maintenance costs. Extra employment increases taxes. Decreased emissions. etc. etc. etc. Quote No one has ever defeated the Liberals with a divided conservative family. - Hon. Jim Prentice
