Why else would America be there if not to secure the oil supply. Yes, electric cars need to be at least as dependable as the vehicles we currently (pun unintended LOL) drive and at least as affordable. The US buys oil from different parts of the world and Canada is its biggest supplier. They also produce a lot of their own oil and could produce more.
