kuzadd Posted April 16, 2007 Report Posted April 16, 2007 like the 'war on terror' gotta try to keep control. http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story...09-2703,00.html A DISPUTE between Washington and its two major South Asian allies is intensifying as India and Pakistan dig in their heels over building a highly strategic, $10 billion gas pipeline stretching 2600km from Iran.Despite pressure from the US, which has linked the pipeline to Iran's nuclear ambitions, New Delhi and Islamabad are thumbing their noses at Washington. Together, they are about to put the finishing touches to their deal with Tehran, with potentially far-reaching political and security implications. Many South Asian analysts see this as a telling comment on Washington's failure to line up enthusiasm outside the industrialised and developed world for its attempts to isolate Iran. Tehran won a significant victory at this month's eight-nation South Asia Association for Regional Co-operation summit in New Delhi when, despite strenuous US lobbying, it was recommended for observer status within the organisation as a forerunner to full membership in the future.Indian and Pakistani officials have been meeting to finalise the Iran-Pakistan-Indian pipeline (IPI) deal, with final approval expected within weeks and construction to start almost immediately. oh, hissy fit coming This is despite the US dropping all pretence at politeness in its efforts to dissuade India from building the pipeline, with Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman, on a visit to New Delhi, insisting that the plans amount to New Delhi helping Iran's nuclear program. "We believe that Iran is seeking to develop nuclear weapons and anything that will support that endeavour (such as the IPI) is something that we oppose," Mr Bodman said. Yeah sure......like Iraq had wmd's The winds of change are blowing.... Quote Insults are the ammunition of the unintelligent - do not use them. kuzadd Posted April 16, 2007 Author Report Posted April 16, 2007 from Pakistan http://www.paktribune.com/news/index.shtml?171124 New Delhi: The over USD 7 billion Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) gas pipeline is likely to be built in parts with the three nations deciding to construct segments of the pipeline falling in their territory independently. "Iran will build the pipeline segment in its territory and Pakistan will be responsible for construction of the section falling in its territory. Indian firms will lay the pipeline from the Indo-Pak border to their consumption centers," PTI reported here quoting a top Petroleum Ministry official. India will enter into an agreement with Iran for purchase of gas at its border and responsibility will be fixed on Islamabad for safe passage of the pipeline, uninterrupted supplies and delivery of gas at the Indian border. BUT, the spoiler.... the project could be a non-starter due to political and legal opposition from the US, including the threat of invoking sanctions under the Iran-Libya Sanctions Act (ILSA). but, if..... The project may be executed separately by the three countries in their own territories to protect it from US sanctions, he said. India will sign a "supply-or-pay" agreement with Iran with a provision on alternative supplies during disruptions. With the three countries separately executing the project in their territories, the project will be protected from US sanctions and even enable American consultants and contractors to participate in portions of the project. where there is a will there is a way. Figleaf Posted April 16, 2007 Report Posted April 16, 2007 It's astounding how George Bush has brought America from the condition of wealth and pre-eminence that Clinton had acheived down to now the point that pesky third world countries simply thumb their nose at them. I've said it before and I'll say it again ... George W. Bush is The Worst President In All Of American History. Quote
buffycat Posted April 16, 2007 Report Posted April 16, 2007 So remind me Kuzadd - why are our children dying? Oh... nevermind - oil (= current power). I do though in all seriousness see where this will end up as not so good for the US and her counterparts. Afterall, I imagine the rest of the world is getting sick of being 'screwed over'. Not to mention that India, being a nuclear power and wanting to maintain such a pipeline would not be too happy about the US wanting to take out Iran (though I think we know who the REAL driving force is there!). Perhaps in light of all the above we should add India and Pakistan to the list of countries who would be ticked off if Iran were harmed. I mean it's obvious it's about oil, for varying reasons, or at least it should be obvious. I have noticed as of late the US has somewhat turned on Mashareff, saw some western press calling him a dictator, instead of President, that was interesting! India wants the pipeline, and India NEEDS the pipeline, because the population and the economic power, ever growing is there and in China, Neither country wants the US to control there economies. It will be interesting to follow, how the US reaction play out. Any unusual actions taking place in said countries, You know like how in Iran the US is fomenting terrorism?! Keep your eyes focused. The world is changing figleaf, and the US is trying to keep that change to their benefit. If they attack Iran, they will go it very nearly alone, except for Israel, no one will support them. They grow weaker, and weaker, making them more desperate, watch for the use of nukes, they can;t fight a ground war. IMO, we are watching the death throes of the empire USA. Figleaf Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 Empires have periods of acceleration and decline within their overall lifespan. For me, it's hard to say whether George Bush represents the beginning of the end, or just a profound crisis. Quote

For me, it's hard to say whether George Bush represents the beginning of the end, or just a profound crisis. well anything is possible, to be sure, but, I am a 'beginning of the ender' myself. The South American countries, are showing the US it's irrelevance, India, Pakistan, Russia, China,, in the east, same thing. When the US attacked Iraq, without security council approval, IMO, that was a big signal from the world, to the US, we aren't towing your line, then the Us reduced itself, to bribery spying, grovelling, at the feet of the world and suddenly the UN became "irrelevant", rather then the lackey to the US it had always been. keep an eye on the pipeline/oil, it's always been the prize.( hence the sudden "AlQuaeda" appearance in Africa) war on terrorism , the BS distraction.
