jdobbin Posted March 26, 2007 Report Posted March 26, 2007 http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/070326/...e_investigation he Ontario Provincial Police have launched an investigation into a sworn affidavit that claims a senior Tory close to Prime Minister Stephen Harper was involved in an alleged bid to buy off an Ottawa mayoralty candidate."It's an ongoing investigation at this point," Sgt. Christine Rae of the OPP's east region headquarters in Smiths Falls, Ont., said Monday. The affidavit, sworn out by former mayoralty candidate Terry Kilrea, names John Reynolds, the co-chairman of the 2006 Conservative election campaign, as the federal contact in a purported Parole Board appointment offer by eventual winner Larry O'Brien. In return, Kilrea was to drop out of Ottawa's 2006 municipal race. Such an arrangement, if true, is a possible breach of both the Criminal Code and the Ontario Municipal Elections Act. I don't know too much about provincial rules in Ontario on election. One thing that is mentioned is that $110,000 is not of money and they can't get anyone to take Parole Board jobs. Quote
geoffrey Posted March 27, 2007 Report Posted March 27, 2007 I thought police departments never spoke of investigations in progress. I guess the OPP must be a Liberal pawn? Right Liberal partisan hacks (not you Dobbin)? Right? Quote RealRisk.ca - (Latest Post: Prosecutors have no "Skin in the Game") --
jdobbin Posted March 27, 2007 Author Report Posted March 27, 2007 I thought police departments never spoke of investigations in progress. I guess the OPP must be a Liberal pawn?Right Liberal partisan hacks (not you Dobbin)? Right? I think if you look at this report, it was the Ottawa Police Service that asked the OPP to look into this. The OPP doesn't announce its own investigations but does respond as per its mandate to provincial matters of law to requests from other police departments. I think someone asked the same question as you because on TV last night they cop spokesman mentioned why they have come forward. It is standard practice for the OPP to say they are responding to another police department's request. I have no idea what the policy is at the local level for the Ottawa Police Service on announcing investigations nor if they are pawns of politicians. Quote
Figleaf Posted March 27, 2007 Report Posted March 27, 2007 Jeez, between this situation and the revelations about Stockwell Day's constituency predecessor, next thing the CPC will be publishing a manual. Quote
Michael Bluth Posted March 28, 2007 Report Posted March 28, 2007 Jeez, between this situation and the revelations about Stockwell Day's constituency predecessor, next thing the CPC will be publishing a manual. There already is a manual. It's called the Gomery Report. Quote No one has ever defeated the Liberals with a divided conservative family. - Hon. Jim Prentice
leonardcohen Posted March 28, 2007 Report Posted March 28, 2007 I've being following the issue through the local media, and i get the sense that this investigation, however long it takes,is going to be a cloud over Mayor O'Brien. It will taint pretty well every decision he makes, because if there is any validity to the accusations, and i don't for a moment believe there is, it is a greater revenge for Terry Kilrea for not winning or even mounting much of a campaign, then any mistake O'Brien could have made. Sour Grapes indeed! P.S.-Apparently ,since there are few candidates for the Parole Board, i wonder if i can apply? Quote Whatever Thy Hand Finds To Do- Do With All Thy Might!
guyser Posted March 28, 2007 Report Posted March 28, 2007 Off topic, but is this Kilrea any relation to the other famous Ottawa Kilrea? The face did look similar Quote
