Remiel Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 For those of you in the know, I've been wondering if you could explain what tangible benefit there is to the Mint dishing out money to get the designs and tools for the horde of " special " coins (quarters specifically) that we've seen in the last few years? I remember when it used to be you just saw the odd centennial design in circulation, but we must have at least three dozen kinds of quarters now! The question is, why? Is this some sort of crazy scheme to increase the value of money artificially by making it collectible? Quote
Riverwind Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 The question is, why? Is this some sort of crazy scheme to increase the value of money artificially by making it collectible? The BOC makes a profit on every coin it puts in circulation. If it produces collectable coins that people hoard then it can justify issuing new coins to replace them. The BOC of Canada uses the profit from these coins to pay its operating expenses - any extra goes back into government coffers. Quote To fly a plane, you need both a left wing and a right wing.
geoffrey Posted March 3, 2007 Report Posted March 3, 2007 Don't be silly Riverwind, they do this as part of the international conspiracy of the bankers... collectors coins have microchips that track your movement, so the bankers know EVERYTHING about you!!
