Leafless Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 " The controversy in Europe over face veils worn by Muslim women could spread to other countries, but Canada's immigration ministry has "no clear departmental policy" on the issue, warns a confidential briefing note prepared for former Citizenship and Immigration Minister Monte Solberg." http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/s...59166c00&k=6198 ----------------------------------------------------------------- If Canada has no clear policy on face veils, why then: "The note cautions the department's guidelines for passport photographs, which require that facial features be visible, "have implications for the removal of face veils." Obviously this is for security reasons. What good is this type of security pertaining to 'national security when the users of these veils can walk around perpetually with, in most part, their faces covered. British 'House of Commons' leader Jack straw called the veil " a "visible statement of separation and difference." Quote
cybercoma Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 what's the point in even having passport photographs if you can cover your face? Pretty much defeats the purpose of requiring a pic for your passport. Quote
kimmy Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 If they insist on keeping their veils on, they will just have to do without passports and driver's licenses. Unless they're willing to accept some other reliable means of proving their identity. Fingerprints or RFID tags might be viable. (Imagine the fun. "Why do they insist on taking our womens' finger prints like the criminal?" "Why do they insist on implanting tracking chips in our women like the dogs and pigs?" I bet taking off the veils don't sound so bad now, does it. ) -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)

We'd have lunatics blowing themselves up on the GO Trains in TO and on buses in Montreal. All because their women are required to take off the veil or not get a license/passport.kimmy, why do you hate our freedom? Quote
Fortunata Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 No veils in Canada. If you can't show your face you should go back to where you weren't free to show your face. After the Toronto arrests a Canadian convert came to their first appearance (an accused's mother perhaps?) and the only thing showing was her eyes, like a good fundamental Muslim woman. And then she got behind the wheel of her SUV and drove away. So, it's pick and choose what they want to follow, when they want to follow it and how they want to follow it. In Saudi Arabia, women must be veiled, must be accompanied while out and about by a male member of the family and women are absolutely forbidden to drive. It's all optional here so they should opt out of the veil. The woman that I described was using it to what she thought would make the biggest splash, I'll bet she doesn't always cover herself from head to toe when she goes out. It's a hypocrisy. This is a country whose biggest asset is freedom and if people don't want to be free they shouldn't be here. Quote
