Jaffe Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 Shalom! Brothers and sisters! I address everyone who does not feel indifferent to what is taking place in Estonia now! My family and I were ousted from our home in Tallinn a year ago because we are Jews. Estonian nationalism and heroizing of fascism is currently on the rise in this country. I beseech all of you to help us show Estonia that this country has chosen a wrong way! If you live outside Estonia, please, don't buy Estonian foodstuffs, cloths or agricultural produce. Don't travel to Estonia, for the money you spend there will nourish rising neo-fascism. If you live in Estonia, become dissidents. Try to convince the Estonians they must not turn to fascism. Estonia government is about to deny Holocaust, which is wrong. Now they drive out Jews, then they will tackle other national minorities of Estonia. We must not tolerate this! Thank you! Quote

I'm surprised you're throwing that link around - what with your whole "the Charter is useless" beliefs and all.... did you see Canada's standing on that list? geoffrey Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 geoffrey!!!I'm surprised you're throwing that link around - what with your whole "the Charter is useless" beliefs and all.... did you see Canada's standing on that list? Sure did BC chick. Canada reached that position not by enforcing an 'offenseless' society like some would like to believe. There are alot of freedoms we have that others don't. That being said, using a piece of paper to claim that we are more free is ridiculous. My speech is limited, my economic freedom is questionable (as that link shows, we are oppressed in that regard compared to, say, Ireland), my movement within Canada is limited (interprovincial immigration issues, esp. regarding Quebec). Canada would be more free without the Charter. I shouldn't be forced to behave in some arbitary manner. I think the Charter causes more grief when it's applied by activist judges. Too many concessions are needed for people just for the hell of it. It overextends rights to many groups (status Indians for example, French speakers for another) at the expense of the majorities freedom and well-being. I'm a very libertarian person at heart BC chick, I think we should all be able to do as we please generally. I think the Charter impedes that in many ways... especially how it has been interpretted by some to have the objective of creating an offenseless society, which is very counter productive when trying to acheive more freedom.
