If the followers of Gore believe him, then we should be getting ready for disasters.

We should have a long time ago, regardless of what Gore says. But disaster response is largely a municipal responsibility, so your state of readiness largely depends on where you live.

Where I live, Winnipeg, is in reasonably good shape. Having looked the possibility of Katrina-like floods in the face in 1997, they have since established and built on as much of a plan as one could expect to have.

I'm not overly confident, however, that FEMA in the U.S. is any better prepared now than it was in 2005.
