A street pole was conducted by News talk 1010 this morning from the common people on the streets of Liberal-stronghold, Toronto this morning.

People were asked if they fealt the environement was their most important issue.

Everyon asked said that it wasn't their most important issue for them. They said they were more concerned with the economy and social services.

It's always important to differentiate between us on the forums, and the common person struggling to live.

Also, a new poll suggests that Canadians would like to vote for Senate.

http://www.cfrb.com/node/455422

"A Decima Research survey, made available exclusively to Broadcast News, says 64 per cent of respondents liked the idea of being able to choose senators for future vacancies in the upper chamber. And 72 per cent supported limiting senators to eight year terms.

With a spring election possible and Harper's Tories in somewhat of a slump, Senate reform appears to be a winner across the country.

The poll of 1,017 Canadians is considered accurate to within 3.1 percentage points 19 times in 20."

Well, as hard as it is to argue with the solid scientific methodology of sticking a microphone in 10 people's faces...

While health care continues to be the most important issue facing Canadians, concerns about the environment have shot up to rank a close second, according to a CBC News survey.

That squares with other polls

Also, a new poll suggests that Canadians would like to vote for Senate.

But is that a priority? or did they simply ask: "Would you like to vote for the Senate?"

Try this poll on a summer day in Toronto when the smog is so thick you'd think it was beautiful foggy morning if you were in the country. Lets put some tolls on those roads (we have the perfect technology) and fix some real pollution problem. In Finland, tolls increased transit use, decreased congestion and decreased pollution. In the mean time lets use our Kyoto protocol papers to heat us this winter.

I'm not surprised given that there is nothing wrong with the environment. There was a poll in the Calgary sun a while back that had radical environmentalists as one of the biggest threats to the country as the first choice. Ahead of Islamic terrorists.

B.Max in a candid moment.

Wow, another unimpeachable source with rock-solid methodology.

Far more credible than that bunch of whack jobs at the UN climate control and there phony computer models.

Sorry. I do not listen to any kind of CBC polling. Especially from "Environics Research Group"

I easily see through their agenda.

That squares with other polls

Yes. that cite you gave says:

"While this does come from Strategic Counsel so it should be taken with a rather large grain of salt,"

It's still not an election issue for poeple to really care about when they are about to lose their jobs and living hand to mouth.

No, not at all, actually. Indeed, it's hard to think of anything less credible than a Calgary Sun reader poll. If such a poll said most people belived the sky was blue, I'd make a point of opening the window to see for myself.

the point, which both you and md00 miss is that call in shows, reader polls, and man on the street interviews are not a reliable measure of public opinion.

That's the blog authour's editorializing, sinc ethe actual link to the poll is behind a subscription wall. I'll gladly dig up some others when I have a mo'.

Right, what such people really care about is...electing the Senate.

Toronto is not the only part of Canada that has smog, I leve in Saint John, NB where the Irving Empire rules supreme, and they pollute the air-shed on a deaily basis from a power plant, 2 pulp mills, a tissue mill, and the largest oil refinery in Canada, and a soon to be LNG Terminal a stone's throw from city centre. This terminal was afforded a 25 year property tax concession where they will be allowed to pay only $500,000.00 per year instead of the estimated $5 - $6 million they should be paying per year, while the rest of the people are expected to put up with tax increases, and a 30" LNG pipeline smack through the centre of the city on the way to the U.S. border. All of these plants are right in the centre of the city and next door to residential neighbourhoods.

My son lived in TO for 4.5 years, but everytime he came home for a visit he wound up at the ER with an Asthma attack. He was diagnosed with a term the doctor referred to as Saint John Asthma. He now lives in Calgary and he rarely has to use his puffers, nor did he have to in TO.

Pollution is on our minds all the time, but when you have a family as powerful as the Irving's, they virtually control whatever party happens to win an election, and government either doesn't care about polution or they refuse to enforce what environmental laws they already have on the books. All I know is that $1,000.00 fines is certainly no deterrent for rich corporations, instead it is just a mild inconvenience on their way to the bank in Bermuda.

I suspect people are concerned with environmental problems they see, i.e. smog and litter. More abstract ones such as acid rain, and fraudulent ones such as global warming, don't concern them much.

December 23. Los Angeles Times.

Two recent national polls, taken in the wake of "An Inconvenient Truth" and mounting news coverage of heat waves and hurricanes, show the majority of Americans now see global warming as a personal threat. And apparently, word has spread to the prepubescent set that they'd better see the San Diego Zoo while it's still dry.

And in yesterday's New West Bozeman, how science is being attacked in the U.S.

When one hears partisan skeptics baying about uncertainty, touting "experts" like John Stossel or the think tanks fronted by the oil industry, or from a relative handful of credible climatologists who represent a very, very small minority, I think of the farce presented in the film "Thank You For Smoking." The movie is a brilliant entertaining satire that would bring a smile to the face of Voltaire. Rent it if you can.

My response was to if people cared about global warming. The polls show they do.

I think I could find polls on the FOX network to confirm that. You have polls to say that people don't care?

If their belief is to any degree based on Gores movie then the pole is worthless.

A majority of people have still not even seen the movie in North America.

I'd say that most people have simply watched or read the news.

Maybe, but they have certainly heard about it. I have seen bits and pieces of it.

So lets take a look at what Al is really up to.

He should be called the big Al Capone of the global warming scam.

Now that is the most ridiculous thing I've ever read. A cult? I'm now less intelligent having read that.

If they were talking about the green energy industry that heavily sponsors studies into damning fossil fuels, then sure, I'll bite. But a secret cult because Ted Turner has a Captain planet cartoon on his channel that he's probably never seen and likely never approved???

Wow. Time for another Bailey's.

Obviously you are not a UN watcher. Or a student of history. It has been well documented in numerous articles as to what they have been doing. This is one of the better ones.

These people are like the early Christian Gnostic's who wrote their own gospels and professed that God was part of nature rather than set apart. Which are the beliefs of the founders of the Catholic church and is also protestant belief.

I'd see that movie, back to back, with the Andromeda Strain or Terminal Man. Except Chrichton doesn't believe in global warming either.

Being accused by Cliff Kincaid of anything is rich.

# During the 1999 war in Kosovo, Kincaid and Irvine accused the Clinton administration of "demonizing" then-Yugoslavian leader Slobodan Milosevic -- currently on trial at the Hague on charges of genocide and war crimes.

# A February 1, 2005 "AIM Report" repeated misleading allegations that "officials of the United Nations ... started a campaign blaming the U.S. for being 'stingy' and 'slow' to respond to the Asian tsunami disaster." In fact, the U.N. official who made the "stingy" remark, undersecretary-general for humanitarian affairs Jan Egeland, was referring to Western countries as a whole and never singled out the United States.

# A February 25 commentary by Kincaid falsely claimed that the controversy over Jeff Gannon, a Republican activist posing as a White House reporter, began because the "liberal-dominated" White House press corps "went ballistic when Gannon's pointed question to the President was picked up by Rush Limbaugh." In fact, Limbaugh did not "pick up" Gannon's question; to the contrary, Gannon's question was based on a false statement Limbaugh had already made about Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), and Limbaugh later bragged that he inspired Gannon's question.

# AIM falsely accused Democrats of secretly authoring a "talking points" memo that described the Terri Schiavo case as a "great political issue" for Senate Republicans. After casting suspicion on the origins of the memo by labeling it a "dirty trick," Kincaid even went so far as asking The Washington Post to "admit their error" in reporting the memo's likely Republican origins. One week after AIM's second press release attacking the media for their "error," Republican Sen. Mel Martinez (R-FL) admitted publicly that one of his aides was the true author of the memo. Even then, Kincaid still claimed that "the use of this memo in a spate of anti-Republican stories on the Schiavo case still looks like a Democratic Party dirty trick. Indeed, the evidence on this score is stronger than ever."

# Though his America's Survival organization, Kincaid called for the extradition of Newsweek investigative correspondent Michael Isikoff to Afghanistan for his role in writing a later-retracted Newsweek article reporting claims of Quran abuse by U.S. troops. Kincaid has repeatedly claimed that the article touched off violent, fatal protests in Afghanistan, despite accounts from Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman Gen. Richard Myers and Afghan President Hamid Karzai that the violence in question was not tied to the Newsweek article.

Lol!! So true.

I can't believe we're even talking about global warming.. even if it is true, it has very little to do with Canada. The voters should drop it like i'd like to drop Arar.

Luckily for me I don't pay as much attention to them as I do to what a consensus of scientific study shows.

However, since you subscribe to the Canada Free Press, do you also believe as they do that...

The 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States may have been a Mafia plot and not the work of Arab terrorists.
