Unreal.

My fiance comes back from work today with a story. I swear to God and my Grandmohter's grave this is true. Get this:

My fiance's, cowokers, friend is from Guyana. This guy's father around 70 years old from Guyana got robbed. He got robbed and beaten down and his money taken. He has a black eye and cuts (some will know what's goign on). So get this. The son went to Guyana, and is on a plane back from Guyana with his ailing, sick, elderly Dad and will be claiming REFUGEE STATUS!! There's a suprise!

The son said that he's trying to "get him in a hospital here in Canada to take care of him" and he does't want his old Dad living in a country like Gyuana anymore because it's unsafe and dangerouse (laughs..).

I don't really expect the majority of people here to know what's really going on in this matter, but I just want people to know that this very same story happens on a daily basis here in Canada.

When you wonder why our healthcare system is unsastainable, you only have to know this one fact: any service that is providing more than people are paying into it will fail.

Read the above 20 times and maybe you'll get this fact.

I swear to God that this is a third hand story. You, Your fiance, her friend (coworker) and finally the Guy from Guyanna whom would have to tell the coworker, who told your wife, whom told you.

Get this, MikeDavid. True story, I swear to God (although I suspect you might think it is "unreal"). Today, right across Canada, thousands of immigrants went to their jobs, worked productively, paid their taxes, and made positive contributions to the economy and society in general.

For to be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.

Citation? hehehe Just joking.

mikedavid00, no offense or anything, but all you ever infer in every single one of your posts is something bad about immigrants/immigration. Perhaps when you look at the issue objectively you will see that immigration is essential to Canada's growth, even if it comes with "refugee status".

So why don't you just come out and tell us "what's really going on here"? I mean, if you want to make a point, just make it. That way we can maybe talk about that rather than reading about the latest game of telephone you've been playing.

I agree. Those people you described in that sentance are in the great minority of 300,000 people that come here each year.

Numbers back this.

It's factual.

Neither am I. I welcome people to come here on a work permit the day our unemployment rate is so low we have so many vacant full time jobs that we simply can't fill them all.

I find immigration to be the root of almost all of our problems in Canada right now. I also believe that our immigration policy is going to eventually collapse our social programs and services including healthcare. If these things collapse, our country will collapse.

Don't ask if healthcare is ruined. It is, it's already finished beyond repair. It was ruined because people were using it that didn't pay in. End of story. Now we need private hospitals. If something happens to me and I need an organ, I cannot get one and could die on a waiting list.

I suggest, you go look up some numbers and stop repeating what politicians 'want you to think'. You might suprise yourself if you find out the truth.

Oh he's just using a comon technique to fake his father into the country because he's old and needs medical procedures and was most likely refused through sponsorship. Showing up with physical scars helps your refugee case.

There's some things inside the immigrant community that stay in that community. It's odd how Arar's wife has another last name than Arar. Common people may not give that a second though. But this is a common, common practice used to cheat welfare payments. If you are married, they will want the husbands income and pay you less or not even give you welfare payments. If you keep a seperate last name it is not assumed you are married. You can be a cousin or friend living in the place of residence. People cut off portions of their earls or may cut the back of their neck with a razor to show that they were being picked on because they were gay. If you have scars, your winning the case.

There's all sorts of ways to exploit the system. Especially OHIP and welfare. That last Sri Lanken terrorist 2 weeks back who was here illegally was getting $1600 a month for just him and his son. That is our money. Tax payers money. He was collecting it for years. He was a known terrorist and we still let him under Chretiens gov't becuase the Liberals refused to name the Tamil Tigers a terrorist group.

Now, we have an old, 70 year old ailing man who can't speak English faking his way into our country because he needs medical attention. He'll file his papers, see a Guynese Canadian doctor, and get his triple bypass off our tax dollars. He'll get his surgeries done and we'll end up paying.

This story repeats it's self each day here in Canada. People flying into Canadad who simply don't live here and are not even citizens are fully entitled and encouraged to use our healthcare system (lebannon). They use our medical services and go back.

This amplifies and repeats itself over time. Over and over year through year and eventually, one day we all wake up and realize that our system is broken beyond repair. It should have adequate funding, tax payers pay enough to serve those that pay into it. .

but ahhhh.. people are using it that haven't paid into it, thus, it's bound to fail. that's fact, not idealism.

When I was a kid back in Ottawa my Mom would sometimes say 'your aunt/uncle is coming to visit from Lebannon'. Then I'd ask why she was here and the answer was 'to get a surgery'. Of course I didn't understand I was a kid.

At a baby shower recently with mostly immigrants there was an obviously older man who came here like 2 years ago. He seemed in his early 50's late 40's. His wife started talking about going to the doctor for pains, then others all got into and started talking about hospitals and emergacny an stuff.

I can go on and on and on about loopholes, cheating the system, first hand examples. Over and over. I can seriously make an internet radio show, sit for 2 hours, and give all the stories of medical treatment and such.

I associalte more with immigrants and people of color than I do Canadians. Let's just say that. I'm very close to these circles.

If ANYONE wants to get into the country, I can get them in easily. I was actually thinking of taking an immigration consultant certificate.

If you are willing to lie, refugee class is the best way to get into Canada. Even if your story isn't valid, it wont matter if you are willing to have kids on our soil. It's a sealed deal. You will get your legal fees paid for by tax payers so that's not even a problem.

International student is a fast way, but is amongst the most strictist of Visa's and unless you have a spouce for marriage picked out, it is not recommeneded. Even if you are engaged, the student will have to back home and re-apply if she doesn't find work. Do not try and get via student visa.

If you have a significant other already here, I know how to get them in right away. Even without marriage. There's just a bit of lying involved of course. You can't be dumb or you can get expelled at your hearing.

All I can say is we need more Canadians like this fellow from Guyana, who strictly adhere to the 5th commandment. What's more, the more Canadians we have who obey this commandment, the less pressure there will be on the social safety net to take care of the aged, which there will be more of, if more follow the 5th commandment.

And of course Immigration Canada will review this and make no distinction that the man is injured and looking for health care.....umm ok

Actually, I should call BS on your post. But then , perhaps you are unaware that 99% of Guyanese speak English, and the some of them bilingual with French. Seeing as the Brits founded then the french took over....

Yea...I am going to call BS on this one.

You should really use google. Unless of course, being in a perpetual state of looking stupid is your normal condition.

First, many professional women do not change their names when they get married in order not to confuse anyone.

Second, most muslim women never change their family name, ever.

Right on! We ought to bring more people in and harvest their organs so you can have one. They can send a finger with their application, so we can ensure they make good donors for those on the waiting lists before they come.

I say we deport you to Syria!

Immigrants are not a sick bunch who are here to abuse our health care system:

Health status of Canada's immigrants

2000/01

Two studies released today shed light on the so-called "healthy immigrant effect," which suggests that immigrants are healthier than the Canadian-born population, even when accounting for age differences between the two groups.

The health status of immigrants may be influenced by their personal characteristics as well as by the health requirements for entry into Canada. However, it has been observed that the longer immigrants live in Canada, the more their health resembles that of the Canadian-born population.

According to the study Health status and health behaviour among immigrants, based on the 2000/01 Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS), 59.6% of immigrants reported that they had a chronic condition.

Consistent with previous research, this rate was significantly lower than the 65.2% for the Canadian-born population. Even after adjusting for age, education and income, the differences between immigrants and non-immigrants persisted. The study also revealed that the incidence of chronic conditions in general rose with time since immigration to Canada.

According to the CCHS, in 2000/01, 7.9% of Canadians aged 15 to 75 reported having experienced at least one major episode of depression in the 12 months before the survey. The rate among people born in Canada was 8.3%, whereas the rate among immigrants was significantly lower, at 6.2%.

Similarly, 2.1% of Canadians reported having experienced problems with alcohol dependence. Such symptoms were reported by 2.5% of the Canadian-born population, but only 0.5% of immigrants. The patterns for depression and alcohol dependence held when the rates were adjusted for age and sex.

This healthy immigrant effect was strongest among recent immigrants, according to the study Mental health of Canada's immigrants. Those from Asia in particular had the lowest rates of depression, and those from Africa had the lowest rates of alcohol dependence.

After accounting for such factors as age, sex, marital status, income and education, all immigrants except those who arrived at least 30 years ago had lower rates of alcohol dependence than the Canadian-born population. Similarly, adjustment for these demographic and socio-economic factors did not affect the patterns for depression. In other words, they do not account for the healthy immigrant effect.

These results on measures of mental health are consistent with previous findings on physical health, which showed that immigrants in Canada are in better health than the Canadian-born population.

Now saturn, what the heck are you doing bringing facts into this discussion? It wrecks, no wait, totally blows all of mikedavids assertions out of the water. Of course he will try and spin this another way, or totally ignore the link and continue spouting hateful diatribes against immigrants.

Sheesh...facts whodathunkit !

That's the problem, poeple coming to Canada are coming from the third world and believe in burying their body's in tact because that's what their religion dictates. Thus they do not believe in giving organs.

Of course... make no mistake, if they NEED an organ they will surely recieve them. But if they have to GIVE one, meh.. that's for the 'Canadians' to do.

An idea floated around was to not allow immigrants unless they signed a donar card and agreed to give organs. This was by the Liberals actually.

Naturally, in typical liberal fashion..

Nothing was done about it.

Is there any evidence that Arar's wife applied for social assistance, or is this just a drive by smear? Women who don't take their husband's name when they marry do so for many reasons. For some, its the confusion of changing everything once they are established in their careers, for others it is because the names just sound silly together, for others it is because their name is a personal identity that they choose not to give up. There are many cultures that don't follow the patriarchal practice of women taking on their husband's name, and this may in fact be why Monia Mazigh retains her given name. You are just grasping at straws now.

I'm curious who else you would like to refuse medical care to. Should only the people who have paid into it have access? What about a child who has never held a job, or someone who is too physically or mentally disabled to have paid employment? Maybe your solution is to ship them off to Syria, too.

For to be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.

Well since people who live here are loathe to donate , what makes that so different from immigrants?

http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/ahc-asc/media/nr-cp...01_36bk1_e.html

So nice of you to flick off the immigrant as one who wants to leave it to Canadians to donate. They may be coming from a country that does not do donations, may have cultural or religious reasons for not wanting to donate or a myriad of other reasons. Ahh ...but it is all selfishness isnt it ? From the November 6, 2003 Globe and Mail. Page A1. Sorry no link, pay access only.

[Arar] is unable to work. The family's savings are depleted and they are on social assistance.

She most likely did apply for welfare. If your spouse got sent to a Syrian jail and you didn't know whether he'd come back alive, you probably wouldn't have the time and/or the mental ability to hold a job between taking care for 2 toddlers and trying to get your spouse out of jail. I wouldn't expect anyone in that situation to hold a job.
