RT_1984 Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 It is your Ironic Canadian duty to Sign this petition at Shaw.ca for the CCTA to allow cable companies the ability to carry Fox News and other American channels in Canada. This isn't just some internet petition. The cable companies will take it to the CCTA and so will actually be useful. Having a real conservative media network in Canada will have a profound impact on Canada. Not to mention, being able to watch a far superior News Channel to any in Canada and the US (#1 News channel in the US! They actually ask intelligent questions when they get the all the A-list interviewee's on.) http://www.shaw.ca/Tmplt.asp?PageID=685# Quote
dnsfurlan Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 Didn't they approve Al-Jazeera, but Fox has still not been approved? Since when did it become "Canadian" to resent America? Yeah, I'll definitely take a look at that petition. Quote
Kai Hawatari Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 Well, we already get Fox and CNN (two different CNN channels where I am). How is this different? You're going to have to explain a bit better what constitutes a 'Conservative' channel. (Sw33t! A ninja emoticon ) Quote

Mr. Chater Posted October 17, 2003 Report Posted October 17, 2003 haha, well we don't have one, he is right. Everything is Left and middle.... Quote
Black Dog Posted October 17, 2003 Report Posted October 17, 2003 haha, well we don't have one, he is right. Everything is Left and middle.... Phaugh. Bias is in the eye of the beholder. Fer example, those of us on the social democrat end of the spectrum look at the National Post and Global as being almost as right-wing as Fox "News". It's a convincing case, as the Post calls it's plays straight from the neoliberal playbook (tax cuts, privatization, yes to the "war on terror", no to drugs, immigrants, pro-Israel...blah blah blah). The big knock against the Pest from the right was the late, unlamented Izzy Asper's support of the Liberals (despite the modern Grits being Liberal in name only). CBC is pretty centrist, the Globe and Mail leans right on fiscal matters, but throws the odd social bone to the left. No matter what, though, the last thing we need is the human cancer that is Rupert Murdoch infecting our national discourse. Quote
Brainiac Posted October 17, 2003 Report Posted October 17, 2003 I can't believe that someone considers Fox news to be a superior news channel. Has anyone actually watched it? I find it more comical than anything else. I feel that the CBC and BBC are as unbiased as any news channel is ever going to get. They try and show both sides of the story instead of being a spin vehicle. I however agree with Black Dog, bias is all in the eye of the beholder. Quote
