Reading a Steyn article is not required in order to have an intelligent opinion of it.

What drivel. I would never be so foolish as to offer an opinion on an article without reading it first. I even read idiots like Sheila Copps and Erik Margolis before dismissing their words. It is possible, after all, they could be making sense - occasionally. Margolis hasn't in quite a while, of course, but Copps has her rare moments.

I am happy to play the ball. Try criticizing Israel and see what accusations of racism come from the right.

Much of the criticism of Israel is driven by racism. Why should one not mention it? Every year, the UN passes the same few dozen resolutions condemning Israel for doing things the sponsors of the resolution (the Muslim block) do routinely. The UN's "human rights" watchdogs routinely attack Israel while never attacking anyone else. Are you going to tell me this is based on their concern for human rights?

When people consider the situation in the middle east, and then repeatedly attack Israel allegedly over its human rights violations, while never mentioning worse violations from the Arab states and Palestinians it's hard to believe their concerns are simply human rights. Something else is at play.
