Looks like Ignatieff has staked out a position on the mission. If the Tories look to extend beyond the current mission, they won't be able to count on him to support it.

A little premature don't you think? That's over two years down the road. If he is writing the mission off that far in advance, he should be advocating getting them out today.

Exactly. But this isn't based on principle... it's based on a vote tomorrow afternoon.

Big deal. As long as Harper is Prime Minister, we stay. That is the power of the PM. He promised in the election platform to have votes before new deployments, he never said he would follow the vote results, and since the PM chooses what are confidence items, besides budget, and the power to send troops around the world is solely in the hands of the head of government, It makes no difference what liberals think, unless they win the election, and they will not.
