geoffrey Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 Don Cherry made desparaging remarks towards French Canadian hockey players. He deserved to be booed. If Rick Mercer was booed by Alberta MP's for making fun of Albertans on a regular basis (which I have little issue with), I'm sure the left would be up in arms, calling it an act of homophobia. Either way, its disrespectful for anyone to be booed in the HoC. I think it's time those MP's should have to go sit in the corner and be treated like the little children they are. Rick Mercer is a comedian, he makes fun of everyone. When Don Cherry is making disparaging remarks about French Canadians he's being quite serious. Nobody's laughing, except other people who don't like French Canadians. Quote Conservative Party of Canada taking image advice from US Republican pollster: http://allpoliticsnow.com

If someone takes a comment personally like that, they are a little too insecure with themselves. Suck it up. Doesn't give anyone the right to boo someone in the House of Commons... it's rude to boo a guest, I think my parents taught me that at about age 2.... I guess the MP's never learnt. jefferiah Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 I dont think Don Cherry is meant to be taken seriously. I like to watch Don Cherry. I dont think he is the best commentator or the worst man alive either. He is on Hockey Night In Canada cuz people like to watch him. He is a character. Thats all there is to it. In that respect he is not unlike Rick Mercer. People dont really follow Don Cherry. I mean people might say they do, but they are joking too. cybercoma Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 I could've swore he was making disparaging remarks about the whiners and wimps in the NHL, who just so happen to be europeans and french canadians a lot of the time... Quote
White Doors Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 hmm. interesting, i thought left wingers were supposed to be tolerant and accepting of ALL people. I guess I'm a bad bad lefty, then. Those pig-ignorant yokels are every bit as Canadian as you are, their vote counts just as much as yours, their opinion counts just as much as yours, just because they are different doesn't mean that they aren't any less of a person. No. They aren't lesser people. They're just not very bright. With that statement I don't understand how you can get mad at people who are anti-muslim and say we should tolerate and accept them (which you are 100% in the right by the way) and at the same time trash your own country men and that they are not your equal, that sounds pretty ignorant to me. That comment reeks of elitism and shows a disrespect of a group of Canadians that are an important part of this country. My support for equality and human rights and all that happy leftist crap in no way negate smy ability to be elitist and to look down my nose at people. Let me put it this way I disapprove of idiocy, but I will defend to the death anyone's right to be an idiot. Which is exactly why we right-wingers continue to allow you to post here. normanchateau Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 Hockey commentator Don Cherry was booed in parliament during question period when Peter Milliken, the Speaker of the House, decided to recognize the controversial commentator's presence who was sitting in the visitor's section. Conservative party whip, Jay Hill said he'd specifically asked the Speaker to recognize Cherry, calling him a "distinguished Canadian.'' How immature can French Canadian MP's be that you be to so badly despise a hockey commentator entertainer that you boo him in parliament after being asked by the 'Speaker of the House' to recognize Mr. Cherry as a "distinguished Canadian". I never heard howls of protest from English speaking MP's concerning why the 'Bloc' a separatist party is allowed to ply their separatist political business in parliament against the political interest of Canada with salaries paid by Canadian tax payers. http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/s...548&k=39171 It's all part of the Conservative effort to connect themselves to hockey, as they were advised by Frank Luntz. My sig has a link to a story about that very thing. I love it. The Conservatives trying to ingratiate themselves with Canadian hockey fan voters by honouring, of all people, Don Cherry. I suppose they thought Don Cherry would not antagonize anyone but they miscalculated...again. In theory, ingratiating themselves to fans of hockey is not a bad idea, particularly since they'll never ingratiate themselves to fans of economics. Quote
Topaz Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 I believe it was Jay Hill, I think that the minister's name, ask Cherry to appear and I would think, he also knows Cherrys' comments about the separatist, which I don't think they should be allowed in Ottawa, so Hill knew it would probably bother some of the French people there and have a reaction. I was surprised when it was the French Liberals that rejected the present of Cherry and not the Bloc. I'm just wondering what games the Alliance members are playing?? Quote
