Its a simple question. When the Conservative government went into power

and Canada had moved up to a leading role in Afghanistan. Did you

support the war and the troops at that time? Also, do you support it

now?

Note: I'm well aware that the Conservative Government were not the ones responsible for getting troops in Afghanistan. However, many a student in my school had only begun to notice Canada's role in Afghanistan when the Conservatives went into power. So I have to keep up with them. Thank you in advance.

Please note that it was the liberals who agreed to send the troops to Kandahar for combat operations, not the conservatives. I agree with the liberals doing that and I agree with the conservatives backing it up.

yes I'm perfectly aware of that. But it appears to me that most people I know had only began to be concerned with Canadian troops in Afghanistan during 2006(after the conservatives were declared a minority government in the parliament) and had only begun to discuss the issue then amongst others.

I'd settle for getting Canada off the frontline at least for a while between now and 2009. NATO's support has been halfhearted. U.S. support for the mission is 25% less they gave Bosnia.

And does that tell you anything for your course?

You should ask your professor about that and ask why.

Not me. I started to smell a rat the moment I heard they were being sent to Kandahar to replace the Yanks.

Everyone needs to take a place at the frontlines. None of the western European nations are stepping up to the plate.

I'm fine with Canada leaving the front lines for few months, a year? But there needs to be someone to fill that void.

It is possible they might be there for two years. O'Connor was just on the CBC tonight saying he doesn't want the troops out there the whole time.
