dnsfurlan Posted September 29, 2003 Report Posted September 29, 2003 This is the guy that is set to become the Premier of Canada's largest province. Nevermind that the media hasn't asked him any tough questions. They seem to want change. They seem to want Liberal change. And no amount of soft coverage is going to stop them from getting their guy into office. Shouldn't someone have raised some concerns over this guy's ability to run the province of Ontario? Don't Ontarians deserve something more than a media consultant makeover and a press who hasn't held him to any serious scrutiny? Stockwell Day gets roasted. Ernie Eves gets toasted. Even Mike Harris is getting scrutinized as federal leader. But Dalton McGuinty? Hey. He's sais he's going to provide change. And that's supposed to be enough. Go figure. Quote
Kiraly Posted September 29, 2003 Report Posted September 29, 2003 Kinda looks like the boy scout Frasier (from the show Frasier) hired to renegotiate his contract. I hope for the sake of Ontarions that is where the similarity ends. Quote

Littlefinger Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 Shouldn't someone have raised some concerns over this guy's ability to run the province of Ontario? Don't Ontarians deserve something more than a media consultant makeover and a press who hasn't held him to any serious scrutiny? The difference is that Eves HAS a record in office, and most voters seem to agree that it is a bad one. The incumbent always has to defend his or her record; the challenger never does. McGuinty will not be put to the same scrutiny until he has a record he is running on - ie the next election. Quote
daniel Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 Statisically (sp?), the incumbent has the advantage. In cases of the undecided, (sometimes as high as the mid 20 %), they are so out of it the only politician they can name is the Premier. During this past election, I've already asked three people where they had been in the past eight years. Where were they during the Walkerton tragedy? Where were they during the amalgamation debates? Where were they when the Tories were creating the crisis in education? During the 60hr work-week legislation? During the flip flop of Hydro-One? These were all headline issues. For people who aren't affected by any of the headline issues, they can probably get by with their heads in the sand from election to election. And then when it comes to decision time, they say to themselves, "oh, things weren't so bad. He's seemed to have done a good job." You've got to have done a pretty crappy job to lbe an incumbent and lose an election. Politics is the most important thing in our lives that people care the least about. It affects us from the moment we are conceived to well after we are dead including everything in between. Quote
Craig Read Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 I agree friend. Eve's in particular does NOT deserve to be re-elected. I don't think Howdy Doody McGuinty can run a flower stall, but given that Eves did NOTHING during his reign he should retire, and let Flaherty run the party. Flaherty was right on, when he called Eves a Pink Tory. Pink is no doubt Uncle Ernie's favorite color. When he retires, lets hope he takes the cookie crew - Ecker and Eliz Dimwit, both of the larger than life girth and crocodile tears of compassion. Quote
