Bush is, by far, THE worst president. The man has control of the executive, judicial and legislative branches, has an innumerable number of allies in the media (both old and new media) and he STILL can't convince a majority of Americans that he is anything but a TOTAL LOSER.

He has utterly sold out a conservative agenda for pork barrel spending and wages battles for the retention of power for power's sake. He is not a conservative, he is not a Christian, he is far from compassionate. He is a political bamboozler and anyone who follows him is his dupe.

Iran held hostages for about a year.

And do you remember exactly who got your country out of that quagmire? Who exactly got those hostages out of Iran? Hmmmm?

Gave away the Panama Canal!? The Panama Canal is not in the US. Its in Panama and so are its rightful owners. Duh.

Duh. No, who got them out? Canada? And what does it matter anyway. The thread was a Bush bashing one with him being the worst President. I think Carter was much worse. My opinion, and that was the question, your opinion.

As far as Panama Canal, apparently you know nothing about it. Panama was part of Columbia, and separated in order to build it. There was a deal. The deal was the US build it, IN RETURN, the US was granted control of it (ten mile path) FOR EVER.

This seems to be common problem with some left posters. They are experts in Canadian history, and US history as well. Hmmm, in fact they are just plain know it alls.

Yes it was Canada who bailed the hostages out. Our Prime Minister Joe Clark made secret deals to get fake Canadian passports for them so they could get out. We broke our own laws (fake passports) to save your people.

Did Carter make the world hate America? Bush has.

I was rather young then and didn't follow even homegrown politics letalone yours. Re the Iran Hostage Crisis, I saw a documentary on it a while back. Good program, btw.

A "forever" deal made by one government does not mean "forever" when the next government gets in... So you're crying that your govt gave back something that wasn't theirs in the first place. If we follow your reasoning, Canada oughta go into Pakistan and take back those Candu reactors -- we built 'em, we should own 'em!

Dear Drea,

And do you remember exactly who got your country out of that quagmire? Who exactly got those hostages out of Iran? Hmmmm?

It was technically Reagan, though crookedly. Reagan, along with GHW Bush, former Director of the CIA-cum-VP, along with Campaign Manager-cum-Director of the CIA William Casey agreed to sell weapons to Iran to free the hostages. Carter's attempt to release them by force resulted in a 'curious mishap' and failure, while coincidentally, (and behind his back) some of the up-and-coming 'Neo-Cons' negotiated with 'state-sponsored terrorism' and funneled the profits to enable 'state-sponsored terrorism', for their own ends, elsewhere and 'saved the day'.

As to the Panama Canal, well...I don't have time to give you a history lesson on it, but I have read an awful lot about it. Carter did sign the treaty to return control to Panama (Gen Omar Torrijos, leader of Panama, and the other signatory died in a plane crash, oddly), and eventually the US invaded it to abrogate that treaty.

Would the Special Olympics Committee disqualify kids born with flippers from the swimming events?

1. How could you return control of something they never had control of to begin with.

2. If a treaty was abrogated, how is it that Panama now controls it?

3. Carter was, is, and will always be a pussy.

4. I doubt fake passports fooled anyone, but thanks for them.

5. If the hostages were not returned, Reagan would have declared war, which is something which Carter should have done. Reagan did the unthinkable with the air traffic controllers: he fired them. He gave them a deadline, problem solved. Sometimes taking a tough stand is hard, but works.

Hey you guys elected him, no?

Obviously the fake passports worked. Those people got out of Iran on Canada's dime. They arrived safely and happily home. If the passports didn't work, those people would have been killed in Iran.

Yah, Regan weren't no pussy... just an actor.

What does any of this have to do with Air traffic controllers?

Those Americans were held under state arrest. There were guards. They had to get past the guards. Did they just show those guards their new passports, and those guards were fooled?

The hostages were in the air the moment AFTER Carter left office. The Iranians knew that if they did not by whatever deal, that an ultimatum such as was given the air traffic controllers would follow.

Reagan was not only an effective President, he was a beloved one also. His state funeral was the largest since Kennedy.
