gerryhatrick Posted December 4, 2006 Author Report Posted December 4, 2006 Liberals doe the most part are against the mission because they believe they can make political hay out of it. Some Liberals support the mission and some oppose it. However, a majority of Canadians now oppose the mission, and most of them strongly oppose the mission. Here's the link: http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Ipsos_Reid:_Po..._Afghan_mission As indicated in the link, Alberta is now the only province in Canada where a majority support the mission. Then again, isn't Alberta the only province in Canada to elect only CPC MPs? Given how Harper has bent over backwards to blur the line between support for the troops and support for the mission, it's not surprising that Harper supporters would feel that way. geoffrey Posted December 4, 2006 Report Posted December 4, 2006 They all supported it, but now they all oppose it? Please be more specific. Was a study done that I'm not aware of? I'm talking MP's... do you not remember who made the commitment to Afghanistan? Quote RealRisk.ca - (Latest Post: Prosecutors have no "Skin in the Game") --
normanchateau Posted December 4, 2006 Report Posted December 4, 2006 They all supported it, but now they all oppose it? Please be more specific. Was a study done that I'm not aware of? I'm talking MP's... do you not remember who made the commitment to Afghanistan? Chretien got us in. But you're wrong to say "now they all oppose it." The mission would not have been extended without significant Liberal support. And many of those who voted not to extend the mission did so because of how Harper handled the motion. MPs were given only six hours to debate the motion. Such a debate required days, if not weeks. Other Canadians should have been consulted. And Harper first claimed he would not consult the House of Commons. Then he said that if the motion was not passed, he would not abide by the vote and would call an election. Let's not forget that he was higher in the polls at that time. Harper's arrogant and contemptuous behaviour on this motion precipitated many of the no votes. In other words, Harper mishandled this issue so badly that former Afghanistan mission supporters voted against it. I anticipate Dion will re-open debate on this issue when he is elected but I don't expect he'll push for complete withdrawal. Quote
abcon99 Posted December 4, 2006 Report Posted December 4, 2006 To all the leftist garbage who dare comment on how Consevatives handle the military publicly, you need to shut up. The vast majortiy of the armed forces vote Conservative. They know who supports them, both in terms of equipment, pay, housing, and actually letting them do the job they joined to do. Namely, kicking arse and being strong and ready for any threat both internal and external. After what liberals and progressives did to nearly destroy our military over the last 40 years, I know for certain that Conservatives and our troops need take no lessons from stupid leftist gutless trash on how we talk about any military mission. If you want the military weak and useless, then vote liberal or ndp. And Prime Minister Harper can use the military all he wants, that is his right under the constitution. He can send it anywhere he wants, any time he wants, and talk about it all he wants, and in what way he wants. Even if he were not Prime Minister, Conservatives are the only party and people who most in the military want to hear word one from. They may not be allowed to voice how they feel about leftists, but the vote they give to any party that represents conservative beliefs in every election speaks for itself. If you don't like the mission overseas, then vote for the ndp, cause the liberals sent us the south, and didn't sell what was going on there, that was up to Conservatives to do. Liberal crap now is just stupid cynical after the fact gutless garbage. Liberals have the judiciary, and the education system, we have the armed forces and the police. Look at who is nicer in word and deed to the different groups, and you get a very clear picture on why I don't need to take any crap from anyone on what my Prime Minister says about the military, or how he uses it. Conservatives love the military and want it to be strong, they support us, we support them, and therefore we can use them in our speeches any bloody way that we please. Also, just for clarification, even if every member of the military became a stupid leftist, it doesn't matter, because they will go where they are commanded to go, and do what they are commanded to do, and die in the numbers they die in, no matter what their personal opinions are. If they don't they are in deriliction of duty. I know liberals don't understand duty and honour, but too bad. If you don't understand that you don't get a say in what the Prime Minister says about military deployment, and your life belongs to the military and not to your family when you join, then use your brain and never join the military. Sacrifice in necessary to achieve great things, and if you don't want to sacrifice, then don't join the armed forces. The people in the military know this, and are conservative, so no problem. Also, when you join, you belong to the state, not your mommy or daddy or your wife, or even your kids. I get sick and tired of hearing about how these are our boys. Did you give birth to them, I think not. Just because you elect the politicians, doesn't make you the state, you just choose who runs the state. And as I suggested, these are the states boys, not yours, not their mommy or daddys anymore. From the second they join till the second they retire, they belong to the state, and answer to the Prime Minister by way of the governor general as commander in chief. So put that in your dope pipe and smoke it skippy!!! Quote
abcon99 Posted December 4, 2006 Report Posted December 4, 2006 Norm, are you ever going to put down something of substance that we can argue about? Skippy is just a generic name I threw in, instead of dealing with a specific peice of liberal trash, so I can direct my comments and arguement to all comers. Good God in heaven give me strength!!!!!
