fellowtraveller Posted August 25, 2006 Report Posted August 25, 2006 Does anybody have an explanation of why Health Canada spends around $3 billion annually and employs nearly 8,000 people, when the provinces are responsible for health care? Quote The government should do something.
Leafless Posted August 25, 2006 Report Posted August 25, 2006 The federal government shares heath care with the provinces who are responsible for implementing it within their own province. Really though you need someone to oversee health concerning the national scene and ensure all provinces get first hand information and federal help concerning a multitude of health related issues. http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/ahc-asc/activit/index_e.html Quote
jbg Posted August 26, 2006 Report Posted August 26, 2006 I have heard that the provinces were too financially weak to stand up to having their jurisdiction usurped by Ottawa. It's a shared responsibility. I can't think of a province that is weak when it comes to making demands from Ottawa. Quote

That's $3b that is wasted on bureaucracy. Gilles Duceppe couldn't have been more right bringing that up during the election. Each province can do it's own health care thing alot cheaper and more efficiently. Quote RealRisk.ca - (Latest Post: Prosecutors have no "Skin in the Game") --

The changes they have tried to make have been rejected by Albertans first before the federal government had to say anything. Quote
