NBC was saying tonight that if weren't for the war, the damage from the oil spill in Lebanon and the forest fires in Israel would be the top story in the Mediterranean. The oil spill is now worse than the Exxon accident in terms of size and the forest fires from rocket attacks in Israel will take nearly 50 years of growing time to replace.

Nothing new. How many tankers were sunk during WWII? Even in the Napoleonic wars whole forests were destroyed just to build the navies. They say it took 80 acres of oak trees to build the average battleship of the day.

Fishing and coastlines were all but destroyed in many places around the globe in World War 2.

Lebanon will take many years to recover environmentally even if things ended today. Israel's damage will be decades long.

That oil spill has the potential to kill a good portion of the marine life in the Mediterranean Sea. It took years to clean up the coastline in Alaska. This can take longer due to the area it has spread to and the amount of contanimation. The Exxon tanker spill was contained as quickly as possible. That won't even start there untill the war is over and done with. The longer it takes to get on top of the clean up, the longer it will take TO clean up.
