Taliban commander Mullah Ibrahim, who recieved treatment from Canadian doctors for severe jaundice, has switched sides in the Afghan conflict. One month ago, Afghan police arrested Mullah Ibrahim, a Taliban official in the Kandahar region, where 2,300 Canadian soldiers are serving. At the time, he was suffering from jaundice, fell into a coma and was brought to see Canadian doctors at the main military base at the Kandahar airfield. Now recovered but in a wheelchair, Ibrahim credits God and the Canadians for saving his life. . Quote

killjoy Posted June 16, 2006 Author Report Posted June 16, 2006 I just hope it sticks. It's not so much the idea that he defected that impresses me but that he was so public about it. Kudos to him but he just put a huge bullseye on his head. There isnt anyone out there reporting on the 'anti-suicide bombing'* demonstration in Kandahar yesterday either. Wonder what happened there. * somone else's words. Quote
theloniusfleabag Posted June 16, 2006 Report Posted June 16, 2006 This is an encouraging bit of news. However, bear in mind he also says this... I want peace and national union in Afghanistan in an Islamic system," Ibrahim saidfrom...http://start.shaw.ca/start/enCA/News/World...rc=w061633A.xml It seems he is willing to renounce violence as a method in trying to make Afghanistan an Islamic state. Does he think this will help, or hinder his chances? I asked this question a while ago, perhaps it could be examined again... http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums//index....+need+a+country Quote Would the Special Olympics Committee disqualify kids born with flippers from the swimming events?
