FTA Lawyer Posted June 6, 2006 Report Posted June 6, 2006 Chuck Guite is presently behind bars after a jury found him guilty of all 5 fraud counts he was facing. Guilty Verdict The matter has been put over for a couple of days to allow Guite to prepare his sentencing submissions. Anyone have predictions for what he'll get for punishment? Anyone have views about what they feel he ought to get? FTA Quote
August1991 Posted June 6, 2006 Report Posted June 6, 2006 Good question. I'd go with the Watergate/Martha Stewart solution. A few months of real, overnight prison. The simple humiliation of being found guilty and going to prison are deterrent enough. Brault was given community work (speeches in colleges) and didn't have to go to prison although I think that's up for review. Guite should have to give up his condo in Arizona though. Civil servants at his age may figure that it's worth doing the boss' illegal bidding if you still get to keep the golf membership. Two other points. I'm curious to know why the jury deliberated for so long. And will Chretien ever see the inside of a courtroom as a defendant? Quote
August1991 Posted June 6, 2006 Report Posted June 6, 2006 Oops. Posted too soon. Sponsorship player Brault sentenced to 30 monthsLast Updated Fri, 05 May 2006 15:58:17 EDT CBC News Advertising executive Jean Brault - one of the key players in the federal sponsorship scandal - was sentenced to 30 months in jail on Friday for defrauding the federal government. CBCBrault's case is a little different. He wasn't a government employee. I think Guite is "guiltier". Paul Coffin (not Brault) was the person sentenced to give speeches. Quote
killjoy Posted June 6, 2006 Report Posted June 6, 2006 Can I just ask one question about that link? Why T.F. is he wearing cowboy blue jeans and a cowboy hat to a Montreal courtroom? I know criticizing the mans wardrobe at a time like this is low, but seriously. . Quote

Anyways, I'm betting around 4 years. This judge is actually pretty law and order and he doesn't like this guy, it'll be a real sentance.
