At the time of the Russian revolution communists took control of Russia. The communists began a campaign of persecution of various Russian citizens .

Many were Russian Jews who bore the brunt of those campaigns, and they decided to leave Russia. But unfortunately the world of that era was a terribly Anti-semetic world.

America and England didnt want to take in the Jews, many countries around the world would not grant the Russian Jews refuge. Even Canada wouldn't , in fact it wasn't till near the 1950's that Jews were even allowed into some universities in Canada. During that period of Russia's Revolution the world was not a accepting place for Jews.

But their was one people in the world at that time that was willing to accept the Jewish refugees from Russia. They may have well of been the only people in history up to that point in time to ever offer the Jews help.

It was a Mayor of a small city who opened the doors of his city to the Jewish refugees from Russia.

The Mayor was the Palestinian Mayor of Jerusalem, in what was the Palestinian Arab state of Palestine at that time.. a place where Palestinians , Arabs , and the minority Jews had lived together for hundreds of years peacefully. And because of their history of peaceful co-existence with the minority Jews of the region,  the Russian Jews were welcomed in.

How ironic the similarities between the Israeli colonists and the colonists of North America. Both colonists end up basically trying to commit genocide on the indigenous peoples of the land. I guess the only difference is that Israel doesn't have a thanks giving day  holiday to thank the Palestinian people for being the only people in history to offer them help. Where as here in the Americas we thank the indigenous people for helping us, after we stole all their land and tried to wipe them off the face of the earth..

The people in that region of the middle east , Palestinian , Jew, and, Arab got along with each other for the most part of 2000 years up till now. That is what makes this thing all so sad,,Its a shame that it ended up the way it is now...

about 7 years ago i learned of all the above in a documentary , that i think was jointly made by the BBC and Canada. if anyone knows the name of that doc please post it , i have been looking for it.. the doc may or may not of embellished the facts, but i have looked up on the internet and yes in fact during the time period of the Russian exodus the mayors of Jerusalem were palistinian .  ...

also many orthodox Jews Ive watched on YouTube claim they lived in peace in surrounding countries among Arabs and Turks until Zionism came into the region. its surprising to see orthodox Jews in the Israel neighborhood of Mea Shearim waving Palestinian flags showing support for the Palestinians..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-FnGJadovo

But when you listen to these Mea shearim Jews explanation, its simply just a continuation of 2000 years of  coexistence between the peoples of that region that they believe in . They feel the zionisist movement has or is destroying that coexistence that once existed. ... .

Under Ottoman rule, Jews did in most cases co-exist with Muslims quite peacefully. Likely better off than the treatment received under Christian rule. Both Christians and Jews were considered 'D'himmi' and as such not equal and subject to more taxes. At certain times, the taxes paid by Christians and Jews amounted to more than half of the Ottoman empire's tax income. In the 1800's things began to change with the rise of Jewish and Arab nationalism, and was during this time that Arab anti-semitism set in. You mention the Russian revolution and the persecution of Jews in Russia. Many other things were also happening in 2017. The disintegration of the Ottoman empire, the Balfour Declaration, and the Ottoman withdrawal from the city of Jerusalem. The British Mandate for Palestine came into affect in 1920 calling for the implementation of a Jewish homeland. This may have changed the manner in which the Mayor of Jerusalem was selected, considering that since around 1880, Jews outnumbered Muslims in Jerusalem by many multiples. For example, in  1922, the population of Jews in Jerusalem was 34,000 compared to 13,500 Muslims. This of course would only be significant if mayors were elected by the populace and restricted to those actually living in Jerusalem. There's not a whole lot of information I can find either on this subject or who the mayor was.  Interesting though!
