But if you blink, it becomes irony: An inside joke.

I recently watched an interview with Eric Idle. (He's still alive, as well as John Cleese - they both live in California.)

Idle hates Trump.

Watch the movie Mighty Aphrodite. At the end, it illustrates irony very well.

As a viewer, you will see and understand the situation of the character on the stage - while the character does not understand.

Woody Allen made irony explicit.
