Expats vs Immigrants: Same Difference

Why are white people living abroad described as "expats" (expatriates).

But every one else living abroad are described as "immigrants".

In the past, if you were a rich young person living abroad, you were known as a remittance man.

Nowadays, you would be known as a trust fund kid. Or a Westerner who retires abroad.
